1. I say no screen... Not to be more screen accurate but so people see you smiling like a helmeted dope for photos instinctively during your first couple troops.

Hahahahaha. Not accurate but I'll stick with the mesh. Helmet hair is bad enough and it's hot enough already w/o the balaclava.

  2. Sorry I don't post as much as I used to back in the day...I think Juan's comments were spot on. The tube stripes will need to be re-done, but I'd not be so picky to hold you back for that as they are an easy fix.

The one item I will hold you up for is the fitting of the forearms. They look very Popeeye and this is not unheard of when people try to put them together as-is from ATA. Alas the right one is not the same as the left, and one really needs to trim both down to look correct if you have regular/small forearms. The biceps also look a tad big, but I'd almost want to see them in person or via different pix.

    You're friendly neighborhood GML... :)

  3. I thought SethB set up a supporter flag way back when for one time, but I could be wrong. CTN certainly had one as did FISD. When the time comes we'll post in the announcements again. Also, we'll try to make a target for each detachment, e.g. say if the total cost was $100 and MEPD used 30% of the bandwidth, our goal would be $30.

  4. Despite all our efforts, we've been unable to address the CPU usage that started two months ago and set off the firestorm with our hosting provider, Site5.

Lucas, Brent, Eric, Matthias all have put in countless hours analyzing the site usage, tweaking settings, pouring over logs and forums to see what could have accounted for this change.

In the end Site5 has run out of patience and we were given the choice of being shut down or moving to a VPS (virtual private server).

The only downside to the VPS is that it costs more - a lot more - to host. However given that this host will contain FISD, MEPD, SLD, IOC, and the PacOutpost, between the lot that's a lot of members and if we judiciously and fairly pass the hat we should be able to cover the expenses.

What does this mean for you?

    1. There will be some downtime as we move off of a shared host to a dedicated host. Site5 will perform this work and it should be minimal.

    2. We will return to the days of asking for support from our membership each year, just like the Legion forums do. Back in the early days (2006) this was not uncommon really and CTN, FISD, and MEPD used to do this (that I was directly involved in). Then we hosted with V'Pier and our costs plummeted, removing the need. However we've grown quite a bit since then and have outgrown V'Piers server, and now have outgrown a shared server. So, think of it as going back to our roots. :)

Matthias & Eric can provide the gory details on traffic usage and actions taken, and perhaps there may be enough bright linux administrator folks out there who can figure out how to do what we did better and bring CPU usage back down, however as of today we are out of time and have to move.

If there are any questions regarding this, please chime away.

    With unquestioned loyalty,

  5. OK, I'm not as active as I used to be and my memory is more of a sieve than a steel trap as I get older, but I can say for sure that the original policy was deployed only. In fact Mike had thought about giving one out to each new deployed officer as a gift. IOW, my recollection is the same as Juan's.

The thread you'd need to find is the one that changed this.

  6. The only thing I've deviated on is using flight gloves over rubber ones. Never tried to troop w/o a neck seal and actually have had mine sewn in to my underarmor, so it's a bit impossbile to do and never had a problem.

I have had problems with some pauldrons pushing up to the helmet though. That is solved with shaping the paudron to fit me better, and for one of my garrison mates also a square or two of velcro to help keep it in place.

  7. My understanding has always been that TK/TD officers were black, as seen in the Tantive IV. In fact they've been called stormtrooper officers before. I've always thought of them as unarmored troopers, just like in the clone wars the the clones were armor most of the time, but officer uniforms when not in combat/guard mode.

I think the reason we've never seen enlisted ranks in the OT as back then they really didn't care about such things - it wasn't part of the story and in the 70's people didn't expect rich back stories like people do now.

  8.
We use tan berets here in Garrison Titan at least. Seemed appropriate. There use to be a run of beret flashes - I'm sure there are some laying around.

  9. What i was to unerstand was that he felt the SE (which was the latest release at the time) was what he wanted people to see, and thus he wanted to destroy all previous copies. Think about it - the version he released as 'orignal' last time is basically the same as the laserdisc rips, which are the closest visually one can get but he kept the sound at 2-channel instead of updating it to 5.1 surround, as well as not doing any number of small fixes to enhance that experience.

That's also why all new TK's added in ANH are ROTJ, as that's his latest version of trooper.

As for the TV series I can't say. My understanding is that this is shelved permanently and they are more likely to just continue clone wars right up to ANH.

  10. I remember years back when I was trolling to find a good digital copy of Star Wars (aka ANH) as it was in the theater but with 5.1 surround I happened on some forums where people were as serious about the films as we were about costums. I found a lot of references indicating that Uncle George went around trying to buy up every print he could and destroy them. Yup, not archive, destroy them. Thus, peope with old copies were even more reclusive and protetive than someone with a screen used TK.

  11. Thanks all! I treated myself to a shiney new bucket and took yesterday off to do some time with the wife.

It also gave me time to reflect on the 501st and what a great group this is. Time and again I'm floored not only by the costuming talent of our members but also the generous spirit in which time and money are donated.

  12. A long time ago I saw a picture of Mrs. TE2 in a TE2 t-shirt that she was modeling for Mr. TE2 so he could show what the new (at the time) TE2 shirts looked like. I was so inspired I got my wife to model one too.

Anyone else ever get their wives to model MEPD shirts?
