  1. When we did the Rose Parade (5 miles in armor), most everyone stood on the buses there, everyone sat riding back. Remember too that the more plastic you cut away, the less accurate you'll look. There is only supposed to be a minimal amount of undersuit showing, after all.

  2. I started to criticize some of the concepts, but the more I thought of it the more likely this is how it went down. Note the trooper with helmet off as he's getting out of his Tuskin - sure enough you really can't wrap a helmet that way.

I think the troopers stripping down droids right there in the field fits well too. Uncle George said that the reason for the Dewbacks was that transports and trooper carriers are advanced tech and expensive, and the folks on the ground had to 'make do' as Tatoinne is really out in nowhere's-ville, and they had a lot of troopers spread out. This means they didn't have the luxury of hauling REMF tech's out by transport - the troops in the field had to know how to do everything themselves.

I see sandtroopers a bit like Army Rangers or Special Forces. Yes, all stormtroopers are "Airborne" or elite from the regular army in some fashion, but even in elite units there is the super elite, like LRRP, etc.

Terry - for concepts that are sandtrooper related, it would be cool to see them boarding the drop ship already dirty. I can't think they'd want to hit the sand w/o a little bit of camouflage to break out the outlines of their armor and take off the sheen.

  3. Congrats Rolf! Glad to hear that after all that struggle it worked out OK. I'm sure you'll be a great Dad! It's a helluva lot of work, but so worth it. Take tons of photographs & movies - time will really fly now.

  4. I know not everyone is a fan of velcro but that's what connects my bells to my shoulder straps going on 5 years without a hitch. Basically all I did was cut to shape some fuzzy-sided to fit under my shoulder straps. I then cut some of the hook-sided and attached it to the nylon strap running from each bell. Each strap simply just attaches under the shoulder strap with the fuzzy with enough room for adjustments. To attach my shoulder pouch, I fashioned a loop out of some leather scrap I had lying around and attached it the back of the pouch with snaps. The loop goes around my left shoulder bell strap to which I E6000'd a 2" black hips shim to keep the weight of the pouch from kinking it.

I can vouch for Brian's set-up. I have to say while it's not fancy, it has as he indicates been working flawlessly for 5 years now, and Brian has been regularly trooping that whole time.

  5. Pretty incredible Terry! You're doing everyone a service by doing such a great tutorial.

The places where I've had HIPS split is actually not on the limbs, but along the cod (which you may not get since you detached it), and at the top of the ab plate.

  6. They need to be load bearing if you holster a blaster. I also like having some plastic inserts to prevent sagging when I attach ammo pouches.

I'll agree with TM that while Wyatt's belts look great compared to some promo pix and Mark Hamill's belt in some scenes, I prefer the look of folded canvas.

Someone once suggested it looked a little like white firehose. Honestly, I'm surprised someone who wore a suit or make them hasn't ID'd it for sure.

  7. Believe it or not there was a bit of a debate in the GML area on whether they should be approved costumes or not. A final word from the LMO should be forthcoming, but so far it looks like it may be if sources are copied and it's well done.

  8. I bet it also helps put the pack on as well in terms of sequence, no more unsnapping and snapping the bells to the shoulder straps. Just put your armor on like:

    1) Should bells/biceps

    2) Pack

    3) Slide on Chest/back

The quick release for the pouch is a fantastic idea. Can't tell you how many times rivets and snaps (poppers) have come undone, or slid down.

    Great job!!

  9. How do you dads celebrate Father's day with your kids? ^^;

Typically Dad gets a tie and if he's lucky is left alone to get some private time to a hobby (which you never get enough of with kids), or a BBQ in the afternoon. Not quite the big deal for Dad's as it is Mom's.

For me, I'll still make breakfast today, still clean up today, not much different than any other Sunday really. Perhaps when the kids (3 and 5) get older that will change.
