  1. I have always been a giant fan of the sandy pack radio and all the different versions people have made. Seeing the actual detail of the speaker, the knobs, switches, and that graphic is GREAT! I think a step above vinyl stickers is laser cut the details of the graphic into clear plastic. A whole new inner child has been awakened in me to see this thing thru. I wait with interested eyes at what is accomplished.
  2. THe hamburger stacker looks pretty darn close to some of the pics I've seen as well. Having worked in props for a couple years, I know that original used stuff hen kit bashing isn't always available. And alternatives need to be found. Now-a-days prop people jsut make the item in question. (take the Riddick breather for example. Not made from an Accuhaler, but modeled after one and made from aluminum and more.) I think TE might have something with the idea that maybe they used both. After all TE has done EXTENSIVE research on all things trooper. Now if he'd only spend equal time on time travel machines, and we could just go back and find out! lol.
  3. PVC is NOT the way to go. Steer clear. (that's kind of a pun. Read on.) Goto a site or plastics place like: http://www.cleartecpackaging.com/specs/ ... n_wall.asp And get a clear plastic tube. This is the tubing we were going to use for the MDK pack. To make sure the pack was SUPER light weight. The one I have is very durable, exact size, and weighs next to nothing! The ABS caps I have weigh as much as the entire tube itself. PVC is WAY to heavy! Sand it up nice, paint it black, and youre set!
  4. I'll have to measure our boxes and post here. I'm curious how close we are....
  5. When doing research for the MDK pack we realized that MUCH of this pack was from a vacuum, like a shop vac or something. I am still convinced that many of the parts are vacuum related. But the bellows I am not so sure is that hamberger dealie. I am still thinking it was made from a test-ball plug. Finding a vintage 70's one is hard. Test Ball plugs can be inflated and deflated, hence the reason some of them look different in the movie. Here is what I am talking about....... Below that are some MDK pack versions of this. made in hyperfirm rubber. We made each layer and glued them together (15 layers in all if I remember correctly) and sanded the holy heck out of it to make the master. MDK parts.... Just because the radar dish was tupperware doesn't mean all parts were. Of course some probably were. LIke the rounded tupperware cups, etc. We made the Filter unit from scratch to look like the Marrmit. I think the original was made from 3 to 6 seperate vacumm (shop vac) parts. It fits snuggly right onto the "plunger" part (as so many call it) I am thinking of maybe selling a few of the two parts together as one full "MVF Unit" soon.
  6. Hello, as many of you know a group of good people and I (many of them members here) are making a Star Wars fan film called "Imperial Commandos". We are looking for CGI artists to help out. Although we've got people who will be working on the CGI for this movie (some from high profile animation companies that shall remain nameless), there are a few shots that we need help with. Please let us know if you are interested in helping with this project. We are much appreciative. PM me OR email me at freemind1013@sbcglobal.net if you are interested. To learn more about the fan film or to sign up to our forum please visit: www.imperialcommandos.com We are looking for people able to CGI terrain like desert or alien planets, sets such as sci-fi Star Wars-ish environments, people in and out of SW Armor for stunt scenes, live animals and/or plants, etc. Portfolios welcome. Thanks!
  7. FOR MDK pack parts, visit THIS thread http://www.sandtrooper.net/forum/viewto ... =7215#7215
  8. Matt is not "stepping down". He is IMHO "stepping up"! He said it himself that he is going to stop being the guy with the suits and "find" himself. I applaud you Trooperexpert! The journey to find one's self is the greatest journey known to man. Good luck in your travels. I hope from this day forward your life gets better and better. If you feel you have reached rock bottom, then now the only way IS up. Cheers! Let's hope the new owner of the molds doesn't end up giving your incredible creation a bad name. Good luck!
  9. Even though I will be selling the MDK pack soon, I agree. Build your very 1st one by yourself. Not unlike how Jedi have to build thier own lightsaber in the SW universe. Build a junk pack. Enjoy it for awhile, then upgrade. Kinda like I did with my ex-wife.
  10. U did a bit of overspray on my chest piece and used a spray bottle version of "Goo-Gone" that I got at Ace Hardware. It wasn't exactly goo gone but one of those citric "remover" type of things just like it. Worked WONDERS!
  11. It's a good start. PLEASE tell me when you troop you won't be wearing that silly "Quick release" button with the little arrow you are wearing in the pic.
  12. I remind everyone to goto this thread instead to show interes.... http://www.sandtrooper.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=422
  13. pack is looking good. Just for fun i wish you had a pic of you wearing it unpainted.
  14. We made a Jig and did a couple, but we are trying to keep the price down. doing 100 frames would be a project unto itself if we heatead and bent them all.
  15. the instructions for assembly will be quite easy and well written. Assembling it would mean extra time and a HUGE box. Ballpark price will be figured soon. Some of the parts are cast in Hyperfirm rubber. (not cheap) an this puppy is over 70 pats, molded or vacuuformed probably 300$-ish. the first run of course having a nice discount.
  16. I have a box full of home made pack parts. maybe I should sell them as a lot here. I'll get some pics.
  17. So far believe it or not the PVC frame has been the biggest pain in the MDK project. bending it just right. We may just use elbows.
  18. I'm still convinced Lucas had the backpack makers killed just after filming.
  19. Estimated time is end of this month. At this time we plan on doing one big run and one small run then thats it.
  20. Chris looks HUGE next to her. And I am bigger then him. You shoulda seen me standing next to little Mirax at a so-cal prop party we had. The MDK pack is between the two. i have one of TK409's packs sitting around here somewhere. i don't think the MDK would look to bad on Mirax.
  21. Hi Mike, And welcome. You are a good size to wear GF, TE, or Gino armor. Many don't wish to dirty up such a perfect set of armor though. You might just want to stick with FX armor for trooping. Of course I'd ask around more and compare how much you are willing to pay. I am doing the MDK pack and I was forwarded an email from you looking into getting your Sandy together. I'll add you to the interest thread for the MDK. you can also visit www.sci-fire.com and click on the MDK Pack link to see more progress. Andrew
  22. We were going to call it that and make is functioning, but come to find out it wasn't canon. LOL Actualy now you can goto the Sci-Fire MDK page here http://sci-fire.com/MDKpack.htm and there is a MUCH better diagram
  23. We did a crap load of research and the best we could come up with is this... http://sci-fire.com/pack%20parts.JPG You can see the parts at www.sci-fire.com
  24. WOW! Very interesting design. I never think any pack is really too big. This is a custom job. Looks good. I'd add more greeblies to it. Knobs, Switches, lights, etc. To make things look less like tuppaware boxes. I prefer grey over the "sanitary blue" color. But you have just enough to balnce everything out. swell job or a custom hardware pack.
  25. I just took strips of leather, a couple leather rivets, a couple Metal rings, a plastic backpack clip and made my own. I don't always wear my backpack, so it won't be a problem if I need to take the pack off. This holds it right in place and you barley even feel it.....
