The BFG/Lewis Gun from schematics (Parts of Star Wars) is done. Plus, screen grabs were used to draw up the final look for the gun.

The receiver was made with a computer driven laser-cutter, using CAD-files from converted .eps files that I generated, and it was made with laminated acrylic.

Can you just paint on top?
Any advice? I know you can use oven cleaner without damaging resin, but wondered if anyone has had luck stripping paint from a HF. I want to re-paint my DLT19, but I'd like to take the old paint off first.

It is an apples-to-oranges comparison. It has been mentioned more than one time here and other forums.
My gun above is made up of only 6 pieces. I just ran a bead of CA glue in the creases, taped secure, palm sanded the glue seam once dry, painted and weathered. A 2-4 hour job, based on skill level.
To assemble the gun, it requires similar skills (though on a much smaller scale) to, say, assemble a suit of armor, or more accurately, a piece of a suit of armor.
Lastly, it costs $400.00 less than a HF. And as you noted, you had good communication before and after the purchase.
I am glad the transaction went smooth AND polite even though you were unhappy with it.
Here is a comparison sheet I sent to JB of SciFire that is factual, and most here (on MEPD) would concur with the accuracy of these claims...

Ah, you tipped off everyone who was going to look at the two guns in that picture and try to guess which one is real. We just temporarily removed the charging handle from the real gun and it fit perfectly into the slot in the hyperfirm. I would like one for the hyperfirm, though. Maybe you can make them sometime?
As for the Cushman, they were very nice in answering my questions before I bought it, and gave me a refund (minus costs of shipping it to me, shipping it back to them, and paypal charges) with no hassles when I asked them for a refund 5 minutes after pulling the gun out of the box, so I promised myself I wouldn't say anything negative about their gun in public.

There is a dude selling resin copies of this 70% scale turd on ebay and calling it an MG-34 Star Wars blaster. I believe one went for $150-$200. Not accurate for any costume... Unless you are doing a "baby Dengar" as a costume. Ha ha ha!

OOOOOOHHHHH - I thought it was resin. Then good choice. You will be able to troop easily with a 4 pounder!
So, did they throw in that biker scout as a treat? Both are pretty guns. Contact Sci-Fire on how to weather, they have good tips.
Yep, I carried that 16 pounder for a 6-7 mile walk... that night, I had leg cramps!

Nice looking. Be careful with it. Use it only to do short troops and photoshoots. It will wear you out. I used to have a resin DC-15 and it was 16 pounds! I walked 6 miles in the snow with it!... no, really. Ask the guys about the Saturday of Celebration 3 in Indianapolis... Snow!!! We had snow!!!
Now is the time for you to start on your Dengar costume - he is the only MG-42 trooper.

I have a resin E-11 that is a bit heavy. It is mainly a display item in my office. But I carry a Cushman E-11 in my holster... very light.
Back to the ol E-11... Ill bet its going to be heavier than the MG though...
Ever tote a MR E-11...
The 42 will still be awsome, Bummer it wasent used.

If you had a council of objective-minded people (remember, objective is relative) running this evaluation, there would need to be more than one type of benchmarking categories...
Price-to-quaity ratio, 1-to-5, 5 being excellent
Customer satisfaction, do they feel they paid a fair amount? 1-to-5, 5 being excellent
Vendor dependability, can they deliver on time? And do they accept returns? 1-to-5, 5 being excellent
Product dependability, can product withstand a drop from 3' feet? 1-to-5, 5 being excellent
Product accuracy? What is correct and inversely incorrect about the mentioned item? 1-to-5, 5 being excellent
I think one of these benchmarking scales would be great. The only problem, you would need a cross section of old boys and New boys who are current customers with actual buying experiences, and not guys posting random thoughts on a set of low resolution .jpg files posted... or gift recipients.
Also, flame Wars could happen. If you could keep it objective, and it be a cross section of membership on this evaluation board (who are buying customers and not guys who have been gifted items) plus have a multi sectional matrix, then you could have something.
This has been done before (on an individual level AND on this forum), and I have had to rectify some bad press towards a vendor friend of mine... from a very vocal and grumpy fellow that went by the board name "Boingo" and he has seemed to have lost his voice. Many chimed in and said terrible and inflammatory things. Call it opinions, call it whatever, it was a bona-fide flame zone.
Then Boingo stated a picture is worth a thousand words... so, I posted a 3,000 pixel wide image of my personal item of the product being griped on... and sales for this vendor are insane, he needs to hire two full-time helpers now.
Another problem, peer vendors do not need start threads evaluating their peer competition. Here is SciFire evaluating Cushman - http://www.mepd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1043
I suggest you read that one from head-to-toe and see why this could be a risky thing to make in the forum.
I offer an anlogy... I still think peers reviewing peers breaks the code of objectivity. When I finish the monoculars Cushman has asked me to make, and Cushman were to offer one that visually looked 90-95% as good as a Sci-Fire/Hyperfirm monocular... and then I posted a Sci-Fire Monocular Review by Cushman... is that fair? Is that objective? NO, it is not. It is wrong. When what I make as a prototype, and what Cushman could produce... will be virtually identical in appearance, but the Cushman costs 25% of what Scifire costs.
Sci-Fire members' heads would go plutonium.
So, back to the Cushman Blaster Review, I am still of the opinion this thread should be deleted since I could start 5 threads just like it and it would result in a peer war. Frankly, I had to do more damage control on this one topic than any since I joined this group.
But I am not going to to do that. I have agreed not to do that.
Be careful in what you wish for Vadersf15t. I am sure the mods have the wisdom in seeing this is a "What you see, is what you get zone."
If they make an Evaluation Thread, they will utilize the utmost of wisdom since I have faith in them, and respect them.

To be up to snuff in the eyes of Setch and Mike, you gots to be carrying and MG-34 or Lewis BFG (or an E-11 at the least).
90% of the people can't tell the difference between a 34 and a 42... but your garrison GML, and the leadership here can.
So I guess Ill ask the next (probably silly) question... Is it acceptable for Sandtrooper Deployed status?
I have always wanted a 42, so I finaly got one coming... Would not break my heart if it wasn't acceptable, but still wuld be cool.
The BFG was the last part of the puzzle for my transformation...

Well, I do not know how the mentioned project is coming out, but I have been approached to convert a schematic of a Lewis Gun receiver to a positive prototype mold. Of course, the back end will have the rifle end added. To be formed similarly to this...

The barrel will be primarily PVC with an end cap with some detail panels.

Mods, if need be, I can start a new thread... there seems to be some growing desire for this weapon. Me and a friend can provide a portion of the MEPD population with a nice looking gun.
I know we are not the only ones offering it, but it will be flavored in orange.
Not to hash up an old thread but how is this project coming along? is it still on hold? As a newb to the 501st and a future MEPD hopeful, I have loved what I have seen of your work! Please keep up the good work!

We are trying to figure out how to couple the new DLT-19 barrel to a piece of resin that is like the third segment of the barrel (the nub, like on the first version Cushman MG-34) so to have the extremely well detailed MG-34 V2 receiver connect to my DLT-19 barrel master.
I may have a spare kit that is a version one receiver (but improved, and a tight pull, and a DLT-19 barrel that will need a tiny bit of work.) I could assemble this and sell it. My assemblies are slightly different than Cushman's - He couples his assembled barrel-to-receiver slightly different, and I weather mine slightly in a different way.
So anyone who is interest, it would look like this (but with a bakelite color stock)...
Let me know. Cushman is upgrading his pricing matrix to be more in line with the improved quality of his line, his upgraded vac, and his pulling methods.
So, anyone is interested in an assembled gun like above, let me know. It will be around $200 I hope.
Also, the stock will be a darker rusty brown aged bakelite color, not woody like the pic (which I need to reshoot, since I have made it a darker color.

p.s. - Maybe I should try my hand at making an MG-15! The cool thing about Cushman is the true inner barrel under the cooling barrel.

and just to add some kudos, in my trooping yesterday every stormtrooper who saw my gun and held it said they have to get one. Everyone who [icks it up says the same thing, " thats it? thats all it weighs?" it's so light and sexy and one guy from out of nowehere came up to me saying im a nazi supporter which kind of made me feel bad but the fact that he recognized it made me realize that it truly is a great replica.

OK, I have converted my V1 MG-34 ot a DLT-19. ANNOUNCEMENT: All owners of V1 MG-34s by Cushman, and who the skill to assemble a suit of armor (or a snap together model kit, like when we were kids), can make a DLT 19 that looks like this....
This new barrel will fit both the V1 and V2 receiver too. He and I discussed that we can convert the V1 (so, no more V1 MG-34s available sorry)... we agreed, to flatten the left side of the feeder tray ammo port, and have the feeder tray cover box, and offer a resin greeblie disc.
Plus, it is slightly less expensive if you already have a V1 Cushman sitting in a box. Now there is no excuse to not finish it.
New topic... I saw this gun go for over $200 on ebay.
As for the new Cushman DLT-19... I have jumbo mega-pixel images if anyone wants to see them.
