  1. That looks like some good stuff. Although.... since silica is salt, I'm wondering what may happen to it in the rain, or humid weather. Does the paint kinda seal it in?
  2. .....and because what he listed sounds better than "I just made this up. It doesn't have anything to do with anything, not in the movies, books, video games or anything. But buy it anyways." It looks like a fine pauldron, just in a different color scheme. People sell all kinds of stuff on Ebay every day - good, bad, and indifferent. Buyer beware. Always.
  3. I figured they were either pop rivets, or regular rivets.
  4. OK, it's been talked about and written about several times on here (I know, because I said it) This is the paint that I used. It has real sand in it, and comes in lots of colors. Not sure if all craft stores carry it, though. And it looks like it cost me $1.97 for the one jar, but that was several years ago. Decoart Sandstone textural acrylic http://www.decoart.com/cgi-bin/Products.cgi?Sandstones
  5. The MG-34 I made breaks down into 2 lightweight pieces. They fit in my armor tub with no broblems at all. I get to the event, put my armor on, put my gun together - done.
  6. I did mine almost that same way. I found brush-on paint at the craft store in several colors that has real sand already in it. I just blobbed it all over, waited a bit, then wiped it off with a damp rag.
  7. The blaster pictured is an MGC, while the ANH blasters were all the British Sterlings. Wrong movie. Great picture, though.
  8. Didn't someone post a template on here a long time ago? I seem to remember seeing on. Or maybe they were talking about posting one.
  9. Aww, geez. And here I've been doing it the hard way - with a knife. Actually chipping the paint away.
  10. Hrm. OK Well, you did your homework, and did a good job at the weathering. So how did you do the weathering on the box? It looks really great, like you scraped the paint off, for real. Is that how you did it, or did you do some other way?
  11. The feeder box kinda looks weird, since the rest of the gun isn't beat that hard. Otherwise, it looks good.
  12. I'm pretty certain my boots aren't leather, though.
  13. Looks fine to me. As long as YOU'RE happy with it.
  14. I tried the white dye on mine, and it was so thin and watery, I resorted to Krylon spray paint. It may have been the cheap shoe polish, or it may have been the material on the boots, or maybe even a bit of both. You may have to just try it and see what happens.
  15. I did the same. Can't beat an $8 set of boots from Walmart.
  16. OK, I'll be the oddball of the group and say that I'll be sad to see the FX helmets go. Yes they're big - all the better to keep my fan, batteries, amp, speaker, liners, etc. It was proportioned to the armor. Now with the smaller helmets, it might look odd (like you have a tiny head on a massive body).
  17. OK, I added a scale towards the top. If you print it out, and that scale doesn't match up to your ruler (in inches), something went wrong. I started to go through and list measurements for each part, but there just wasn't enough room for all of that. This way, that one measurement scale covers the whole page.
  18. Good point. I forgot to add that to the picture. BUT.... Always be aware that different armor and different people are different sizes, and these (while based on the FX armor) are just a guidline to get you started. They may need some minor fixing to suit your particular need.
  19. He doesn't have the big black dots (no matter how many there are), and that's better than a lot of the pauldron slappers out there. Good for you to make your own modifications. It looks great!
  20. Yup, just more ABS (or whatever you're already using).
  21. I posted this in another thread, but I'll post it here, too, so everyone can benefit. Here is all you need to make your sandtrooper parts with the leftover ABS from your kits. You can also use plexiglass, plastic signs, painted clipboards, or whatever. You should be able to print this page out, trace the shapes, cut and paste. It's as easy as that. If there's any questions or anything, don't hesitate to ask.
  22. You shoud be able to print this page off, and then trace the parts onto your extra ABS. If there's any questions, let me know.
  23. The FX helmet may be poop, but there's plenty of room for fans, speakers, a microphone, padding, etc. Did you get the extra ABS with your armor? If so, I'll try to make a quick how-to.
  24. My toy blaster is great, but looks like the toy. That's all I'm saying. I built up mine from two pieces of scrap wood, and some leftover aluminim bar. Total cost - free.
