TK-6630
I know this is the MEPD but i cant seem to get into the white armor site... Anyways so i have these mutant legs and i cant seem to get my armor to fit at all, tried to just strap with elastic and that failed and left my armor thigs resting on my shins, tried to straight strap them with nylon webbing to my ab piece and that drug my suspenders so far down you could almost see the gap between my chest and abs and also one of my snaps failed and came off the ab piece after no more than 20 minutes of testing, tried to make a second belt (garder) with straps to hold my thighs only and that failed (D rings i used pulled apart) any suggestions on how to make this work? i am trying to get this finished for the st patricks day parade here on the 13th so i can do some trooping One of the main issues is i can not seem to get enough material to sucesfully shim the top of the thighs.... I am indeed interested im becoming an MEPD but i need to get the armor to fit and be able to be worn long enough to troop in before i modify it to become a TD Again any suggestions would be VERY much appreciated
pandatrooper
Not sure what you mean by "can't get enough material to shim the tops of the thighs?" Sounds like you're having a "suspension" issue too. Probably can't help you in time for the 13th, but the style I make is a V garter which I have found to be more effective than the straight single piece of elastic that was used in the original suits. A V style garter will keep the thigh piece more "centered" on your thigh, and the 2 pieces of elastic distribute the weight much better. Here's a make do version you can make. Sounds like your a bigger trooper, so find yourself a belt. A nylon belt about 1.5" - 2" with a buckle would be ideal. Then get some black elastic from a fabric store. Anything around 1" - 1.25" will be fine. Fold the elastic into a V shape and attach the tops of the V to the belt (via sewing, rivets, etc..). The bottom of the V should go slightly past the top of your thigh armor. Then sew a strip of velcro (approx 4" long) to the bottom of the V. This will attach the opposite velcro on the inside of the thigh armor. Try everything on, and adjust it to fit. When you're confident you've got the right location, you can add a snap plate with snaps for extra security if you wish. Here's a picture of the ones I make and have sold to lots of troopers. This type of design should work for you.
TK-6630
Well thats simmaler to what i made today, i used a 2" webbed belt that i made with a buckle and 1 single 1 1/4" strap to hold the thighs... ill attempt to make it a "V" style to see what that will do for me, as for being a bigger trooper yes, 6'2" 250 lbs.... im amazed ive been able to get everything else to fit... as for not being able to get enough material... i just dont care for the way it looks with all the extra shimming on the rear of the legs... currently i am using an elastic deal i made with velcro to close the gap... heres a pic What you are seeing is 3 pieces of elastic sewn together with velcro on the opposing side works VERY well on the calfs but just isnt working on the thighs and that of course goes inside the armor I appreciate your imput and will attempt to modify my strapping system to follow, any other suggestions are also welcome
TK-6630
Just had a thought... why not expand the elastic portion that i made then fill in the elastic area with one of the plastic belt sections that i do not need because of my canvas belt.... hmmm im gonna have to try that as well.. i mean its fairly obvious to me that the backs of my legs are not going to look perfect as i am a "plus sized trooper"
