Help with my mg34 build

Recommended Posts

Hi from Belfast, northern Ireland

I have been trawling through the forums for a few weeks now trying to soak up as much knowledge as possible before embarking on an mg34 scratchbuild.

Got all the bits finally together yesterday and decided to get stuck in...

However I have immediately hit upon a problem!

I am using the tutorial on the blaster builders club...

http://www.imperial-fleet.com/BBC/communit...php?f=4&t=5

the problem is I think the templates I printed were a little oversized... As the handle and trigger pull seem too big as the finger hole will be too far from the actual handle. As a result the whole assembly is to the wrong scale...

I have obviously done something wrong whilst printing the templates... If I could get them printed at the correct scale I could probably salvage some of the pieces I have cut already...

So would anyone know where I may have gone wrong?

Alternatively would anyone have rough dimensions for the gun so I could try and create my own templates or trim the pieces I have...

Thanks in advance

stu

It's hard to tell without a ruler or something in the picture, but it doesn't look that far off.

It looks a bit weird in the picture but more because you have the main "body" of the gun flipped left to right. Flip it the other way so that the slimmer end matches up with the butt stock, then place the trigger assembly in the long notch that's cut out along the bottom.

That being said, here's a an image from TK409's site with some rough measurements

have managed to reprint the templates again, this time in exactly the right scale... not sure if i can salvage any of the 'main gun' parts , but i can certainly salvage both the trigger section and the stock...

will post more pics when further progress has been made...

Thanks for everyones help...

cheers

thought i would keep u guys updated here as well (posted topic first on Emerald Garrison site)

ok , got a bit of time this weekend, was able to salvage the stock pieces and trigger piece, but the receiver bits i had to bin and start from scratch again...

here is how far out i was with the original templates...

have temporarily screwed the bits together and glued them.. i have added another stock piece to widen it out a bit as i think im going to have an issue with the barrell and connector diameters.... could run the risk of actually splitting the wood trying to fit them... and i dont think a smaller diameter pipe will work for the barrel.. im sure i will find a way around it...

So going to now spend a bit of time getting the receiver and stock sanded down and tidied up (a lot - kind of rushed recutting them), get a good fit for the trigger and get it sanded down and fitted...

then onto the barrel

will post again when further progress made...

Cheers

As for the scale, I was printing the templates out in work ( which doesn't have any specialised image software) when I followed the instructions on BBC, I think the printing was enlarging the images to almost 'fit to page'. The way I got around it was opening the picture in picture viewer, but then I think I right clicked or selected 'edit' , this opened up a paint type program and when I printed from that program, it printed to the correct scale ( I hope).

As for pipe diameter, in the uk we use mm not inches and I couldn't find equivalent piping even after using an inch to mm convertor. So I am using 32mm abs waste pipe for the outer barrel and I think from memory 25 mm electrical conduit pipe for the inner barrel... Only problem is the 32 mm is going to be a tight fit and a slip of the drill could result in the receiver splitting...

got a bit of thime this weekend to fiddle about with this and am drilling the barrel shroud vent holes... anyone know what diameter the holes should be...

i have drilled them 10mm but think they may need to be 15mm?

Thanks

none of the bits are actually joined as of yet... so a bit of tidying to do and then some fixing and gluing to get them all one structure...

just a quick question... any of you guys who troop with these bigger weapons... do you have them so they break down?

starting to get concerned about how im going to transport these... wouldnt fancy slinging them in the back seat and then getting pulled over by the police....

;)
