TD-5491
Sorry this is a little late but still wanted to share. We were invited to join the Baton Rouge Zoo, in having a special night for Children with Cancer and their families. It was closed to the public. We teamed up with some local Rebels and had a great time making the kids smile. The Zoo staff even created some star wars backdrops for the event which was really cool. It was a bit humid but well worth the sweat. We also made the local news in Baton Rouge (sorry no video) All photos with children have been cleared to view. Here's info on what Dreamnights is all about. Please read and contact your local Zoo to see if they participate. This is a great event to be apart of. If it helps make a child forget about their illness if only for a while, I'M THERE Thanks for taking time to read. Walt Dream Night at BR Zoo for Children with Cancer ::: In 1996, the Rotterdam Zoo initiated an annual evening 'out at the zoo' for children from the Sophia Children's Hospital. This first edition of Dreamnight at the Zoo was planned specifically for children with cancer. The invitation list included 175 children, and they brought their mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters. In the years that followed, the Rotterdam Zoo continued to organize these evenings for more children each year, reaching out to more hospitals and institutions. Beginning in 2000, other zoos in Europe began to organize similar evenings, and Dreamnight at the Zoo was officially born. Held on the first Friday in June each year, it is a cost-free evening exclusively for children with special health care needs and children with disabilities and their family members. It is the dream of the Dreamnight at the Zoo Foundation that all zoos in the world will once call the first Friday of June Dreamnight at the Zoo. There are now more than 100 zoos, in more than 24 countries all over the world, celebrating Dreamnight at the Zoo. In 2005, more than 40,000 families were touched by this special event. You can learn more about the partnering facilities at the Dreamnight website: www.dreamnightatthezoo.nl. Dreamnight in Louisiana Dreamnight at the Zoo takes place in zoos in many states, including California, Texas, Tennessee and Ohio. BRECs Baton Rouge Zoo was the first zoo in Louisiana to make this special evening a reality for our children. Thanks to the generous support of Valero, Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge, BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo and Friends of the Baton Rouge Zoo, children with cancer enjoyed a cost-free evening at the Zoo with their families and friends. The Zoo was alive with jugglers, face painting, food, keeper talks and, the 501st Legion Bast Alpha Squad, and of course, wild animals! Also, here's the full album of pics from the event. http://public.fotki.com/lasquad501st/dream-night-at-bato/
