theGreatSot
Looks killer Rolf! Since you are getting the suit dirty, I don't think it matters if it is extra shiny or not. Just my two cents...

Rolf
Looks killer Rolf! Since you are getting the suit dirty, I don't think it matters if it is extra shiny or not. Just my two cents... You got it Zac, and the hair spray will also make some glossy effect too. But i think it was too matt, at first. So i understand why people spray paint it, white glossy. But whit this method, i will not paint the armor. I will just clean all the parts down, put some weathering on it+ hair spray. Then its trooping time. I love not to have spray paint on the body armor, and see it comes off when i troop in it. My early suits/FX, GF, AP in glossy abs, and TM suit in glossy hips was not painted either. If i should paint it, and only used it for display. It do not matter, what kind of spray to used. If you want to troop in it, and paint the hole suit. I will paint it whit Humbrol 22, for sure. Its way stronger, then any spray paint i think. Humbrol 22 also make there paint in spray paint, i just found out today in our local shop here today. But the spray was water based, so i guess the terpentin hand brush paint Humbrol 22 is still the strongest choice. Cheers bro´s. New pictures up asap
Rolf
Funny about the kid, Rolf. Looks like that acetone worked nicely! TK7036
From the pic I can hardly tell the difference. If acetone really works then I must try it. I simply don't think any kind of paint even Humbrol will stick permanently without any chipping or flaking. One stupid question, if I ask the hardware store would they know what acetone is? What is acetone commonly used for? Thanks for the tip bro!

I simply don't think any kind of paint even Humbrol will stick permanently without any chipping or flaking. One stupid question, if I ask the hardware store would they know what acetone is? What is acetone commonly used for? Thanks for the tip bro! Copy that. Back then when i buy my AP, i got it because it not have to be paint. Because i like to troop in it. I guess i should have got the TE/TE2 those years back. The acetone is to clean nail lacquer, clean brushes, hand tool, marks from stickers etc... there web site is www.cabdan.com, but i do not seems to work. But you can see the item on google. Its a 4-1 in strong, terpentin is 3-1. The terpentin is not strong enough to remove the paint. But the acetone is, i think there is also a 5-1 acetone. But i think it have to be a 4-1, a 5-1 will be too strong. And might damage the suit. When i clean it down, i i cut up a white t-shirt. Remember only to use a white one, whit no picture print on. The acetone will go in the shirt, and might leave a colour on the white armor as well. When you clean it down, keep on going whit a fresh piece of white cloth t- shirt piece. And the matt hips, slowly turn more glossy. I also have some NOVUS 2 fine scratch remover, from my old FX. And i also give it a go whit that item on, so it turn even more shiny. (goolge novus, and you will see it as well) Hope you can use it bro
TK7036
Wow I'm surprised with your in-depth explanation you sounded like a professor! You've been a great help and I'm going to try your method. Btw, could you comment on both the AP and the TE2? Now that you have all the major armor makes in your collection, is there a clear winner? Thanks for sharing! Rolf
Wow I'm surprised with your in-depth explanation you sounded like a professor! You've been a great help and I'm going to try your method. Btw, could you comment on both the AP and the TE2? Now that you have all the major armor makes in your collection, is there a clear winner? Thanks for sharing! Thanks for you kind words bro . I try my best to be . The ANH troops are my big hobby . Its hard to say what armor is best, and i don´t wanna step on any body´s toes . Owners, and makers. But i will try to say it civil. I will say that the TE/TE2, AP and TM is the 3 best suits out there to get as it looks now. (also the GINO suit if you can get your hand in one, but he has only made a few. And its almost the same as the TE/TE2 suit). The AP comes from the GF suit, there comes from the TE rotj suit. The AP only have the one side of the shoulders, bicep, arms and only 3 pieces of the skin bone. The last is double up. The suits is also modify extra, like the chest, belly, back cap. But most of the suit/parts are from the early GF suit etc, long story... I got the AP because it was in ABS, and its a bit stronger then the HIPS for trooping i have heard... But the TE2 suit i got here is made out of 2mm, and are just as thick as the AP i think. If you wanna crack the TE2 part, you have to take one non assemble part and crack it to brake it. I have glue the suit together whit E6000, and the parts are strong and solid. So if i should choice between the AP and TE2, i think i will go for a TE2 suit. The TE/TE2 comes from a screen used ANH helmet, and another ANH helmets ear caps. The rest of the suit/body armor, is from a ROTJ suit. Modify to ANH. So you can say, that the TE/TE2 comes from the real deal. The TM suit is fan made over many years, about 7 or 8 years. Its the best fan made suit, ever made. He work is not a recast, but it looks like a screen used. He has done it so well, that he has got some of the ANH details the TE/TE2 missed when they made the molds some years back. Like the 11 holes left arm, 12 holes right. The slide in the small belly stripe, where the 3 sand trooper dots sits. Left shoulder goes out stripe, right more direct down etc... The TM suit is made out of thick milky white glossy HIPS, about 2,5mm thick. The best suit will be a mix, of the TE2 and TM armor i think. But once again, the AP armor is a very nice suit. And are very accurate too. Love from here, to those 3 suits/makers. Peace
Rolf
Small update: I have clean 50%, of the body armor down now. I guess i´m done whit that, around the weekend. Here is some shots. In progress: Done: Here you can see a finish part vs. a non touch part: The helmet is sold to a garrison member, as a TK helmet now. A new helmet kit is on its way. Here you go: But i still got the profile helmet. I think its so lovely, not to have a painted body armor. Not to have to think about, paint coming off when you troop. Cheers troops. dutchy
I love the part where you explain the differences in armors Rolf. It makes it very clear to the people and me of course where to go for and look for in a suit. But it is also still a matter of budget and personal choice. Thanx to you I got my decision right.. The cleaned parts look really great as if they were ABS instead of HIPS. It must feel good to own an armor of that greatness and not having to think about paint coming of when you troop. Respect bro'..

TK7036
Sad news is my helmet is painted. I realised I must continue to paint the whole suit otherwise the color won't match. Maybe I will check out the auto shop. Only if you have came up with this topic earlier... Anyway please post bigger pics when you finished redoing the armor. Thanks for sharing! I hope i can one day save enough money to get a whole suit from TM and make it as awesome as yours! Thanks for your kind words bro. The last photoshop work you did for me was 100%. When i have clean, the body armor down. I start weathering it. I only need the do the belly and one leg now, every thing looks good. I have order a new TE2 bucket, i just wanna use some NOVUS on to polish it up to the body armor. I got some sweet ebay items, to put on my next MH/SB back pack kits when they come. And a ebay pauldron on its way, if the SB are on firm delay. But i do have my profile TE2 helmet here, clean down glossy TE2 body armor. My old MH/SB back pack. HF Lewis/T-21, MG34/DLT-19, E-11. So if some of the items drag out, we can still make some sweet pictures real soon

TD9009
Does anyone know where is possible to order a TE2 full suit? A friend of mine, who belongs to the 501st Italica Garrison, wants to buy one full suit (armor and helmet). After he seen my TE suit, he fallen in love with it. (note: the helmet and armor on my avatar isn't a TE... it was my first suit, and the helmet isn't the one I'm now wearing during Tours). If possible, please, write me a note on how to contact the maker of TE2. Cheers, Alberto
