troopermaster
Yes,you are right Leo. I think now that the ROTJ suit's as we know them was in fact made during ESB.I think HDPE Stormy hit the nail on the head with his theory stated on the RPF,that being the suit could have been made specifically as a stunt suit. With the ab detail formed as part of the armour so it doesn't fall off, edging on all main body sections to help stop cutting into your skin, and even the overlaps on the arms and legs so the strips don't fall off. This all leads to a simpler suit that's more comfortable for the stunt men and easier to assemble. Makes sense to me
StarWars Collector
I can end the timeframe debate right now for you all. The poster was made the same time as the movie. How do I know this? Easy. Topps trading card #1 Red Series ESB header card is the same as the poster. Go check it out for yourself. Came out in 1980. Mystery solved. Nice thing to have a pornographic memory Matt/STE @TE: My memory isn't that pornographic.... but I can confirm it: http://www.toysrgus.com/index.php?action=d...ry&id=1&page=92 @Troopermaster: That theory certainly makes sense! Though, I can't think of a single scene showing this particular armor. That leaves us with just one question: Why that grey ANH frown in the ESB promo poster? It makes no sense whatsoever. Too Much Garlic
This is odd... this is exactly the thread I remember reading here several months ago... what's going on?
troopermaster
I doubt that suit was screen used unlike the other one which looks like it's seen a fair few battles Maybe they were going to go back to grey for ROTJ? Here's another pic in which one has a grey mouth.

Too Much Garlic
This is getting creepy. Not creepy, you've taken your first steps into a larger world! Unfortunately. I've been there too long... Nice find with the trooper with the inverted ab plate detail. Knew it was in there somewhere!

StarWars Collector
Here you go, check out the thread over at the RPF I posted a screengrab showing the AB section. Great pic! Those shoulder bells sure look different (maybe some type of flexible material?), but what I meant was a scene in ESB showing not only this special armor but that strange RotJ helmet too. Could you please post a link to that RPF thread? Can't find it.
troopermaster
http://www.rpf.invisionzone.com/index.php?showtopic=111163# That's the link post #17 Good luck trying to find that helmet
trooperexpert
I think that the theories you all have are good but the explanation is really too simple. The reason the ab detail is on upside down is that it fell off and was accidentally glued back on wrong. Also the chest does NOT have rubber trim on it. That is just the illusion of thickness that almost looks like trim. Sorry guys, the suit is anh/esb and not the poster suit. I have no clue on the helmet except to offer a theory. It could have been a helmet that got almost 100% changed and they needed it for the shoot and old George said, dont worry about it.. no one will notice Matt/STE
StarWars Collector
I agree with you on the ab plate issue. I did some research and came to the same conclusion. The helmet however seems more complicated in my view. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y213/star...roopermetCF.jpg
troopermaster
The armour DOES have the edging on and it's plain to see on the DVD.The shoulder straps are also velcro'd on too like on ROTJ's.There's no denying that the suit is different from all the other ANH refurb's
trooperexpert
velcroed on is iffy, but what are the sraps made of? I dont have the dvds, lost them in the divorce so I cannot see and that photo does not have edge trim showing on it. I will see if I can borrow the DVDs from a buddy..
