  1. 3. They are hand painted. 2. I took the E-11 for a stroll in the desert and hopefully it looks better:
  2. Couple notes: there is weathering on this pauldron but I'll be darned if I can get it show up on the pictures. I think the orange overpowers my phone camera. Secondly: I noticed after taking the photos of the DLT that it lacks the wires. Because of that I included pictures of my E-11, and I'm going to run out later today and pick up some black wires to bring the DLT up to snuff.
  3. Scott Duncan Plainsrunner TD92698 Alabama Garrison It's time to get this process started I suppose! Pictures attached below:
  4. I wound up going with the suggested mannequin here in this thread. The results: Now I have to figure out how to handle all the other stuff that goes with the suit: Pardon the bare mattress. It's the guest room. lol
  5. So I've decided that you shouldn't over-sand these things. I mean mostly the high points of the binoculars would have had the paint battered and rubbed off of them. The rest should be sand and grit that gets all over it and down in the crevices. So here is my sanding stage: The rest will be dirt.
  6. Michael Duncan TD 92698 Requesting 501st and Sandtrooper access! https://www.501st.com/members/displaymemberdetails.php?userID=27527
  7. Honestly I can't wait to set up a checkpoint in my neighborhood on Halloween.
  8. Great point! Maybe I'll go over to the neighbor's house and demand to see their identification.
  9. I'm already getting more comfortable in it. I can tell you one thing though: when the fans aren't on it quickly gets challenging. The fans make all the difference! I have submitted my photos to my garrison liaison officer and he's reviewing them now. I should either get adjustment feedback in a couple days or be accepted in.
  10. 1. Yeah I figured out the chin strap makes a world of difference. I did remove the foam (and will be keeping it since it's movie correct) and replaced it with slightly thinner padding that allows my eyes sit more in line with the eyes. Better. 2. I've put it on a few times now and am more comfortable with moving around with it now. The improved visibility helps this confidence a bunch! 4. I think you are right. Trial and error is going to be the method. When positioned right the whole radio chatter/intercom thing really sells this armor Edit: False alarm. I think the suit fits when I properly adjust the belt. Noob mistake.
  11. Trying to get the little issues ironed out. *how to get bucket on head without completely dislodging the mic from the exact spot it needs to be. *how to have both fans going without it making the mic think someone is talking constantly (*TKTalkie). *getting my wireless headphone and mic to work. I can plug in the wired mic and it works but the wireless is having trouble. I'm fully charging both mic and receiver now to see if that makes a difference.
  12. So I got my armor in! I have to take the appropriate approval pictures sometime this weekend. (pic below) Impressions and Questions: 1. The bucket has a strange fit that I can't put my finger on. It floats on the head a bit, meaning I don't feel like I have a lot of control over it when I turn my head. However, because of the cowl and pauldron it sits a little high so my eyes aren't in alignment with the eye openings. I think the latter I can fix if I pull the star foam that RS included out and replace it with a different padding method. 2. I'm scared of the plastic. What do I mean by that? I mean I just got this amazingly awesome thing in and I'm uncertain how durable it is. I know people do hikes in this stuff so it shouldn't be too brittle/fragile/crack-able right? I'm walking around like someone does when they come in from the pool and they are trying not to let their wet bathing suit, which has been turned to ice by the air conditioning, touch their skin. In other words I'm being careful moving my arms and legs much because of perceived fragility. Is this justified or is this stuff tougher than I think? 3. The entire commission is freaking amazing by RS. I mean I'm sitting here marveling at the blaster and blaster rifle. 4. How do you guys get your bucket on your head without completely messing up your wireless (or wired) microphone alignment on your head? Quick picture from last night:
  13. Now I Just need to take feedback photos for 501st approval. I'm beat tonight though. I'll look up how to do it and get her done tomorrow night.
  14. I do. I’d been saving a while for the armor. The added expense was the field pack supplies and a couple other random things I hadn’t planned for. Luckily it’s tax return time!
  15. Ok! All three packages are stateside. Two of them have departed Louisville KY. One of them is holding on Import Scan. I'm assuming that one has been snagged by US customs and might not make it tomorrow. Within 48 hours I'll have everything I think. I just hope the gods have blessed me with no broken parts! In addition: All of the field pack build parts are on the way to me except the Woodman radio. He said it would take him a few weeks since he was backed up.
  16. Ok I talked it over with ukswrath and we agreed for me to try the one you suggested to see if it causes the feedback. If it does I can return it to Amazon without issue.
  17. Ok looks like 2 of them have cleared customs with export scans are are marked as 'In Transit' again. I bet the box with the e-11 and dlt-19 are still hung in inspection. The reason for the stress Airborne is that I'm hoping this delivery is squeezed between now and when I leave for a week to Jamaica with the wife. In other words it needs to hurry and get here so I can sign for it. I should have commissioned a smuggler to get it to me. It would have been here in less than 3 parsecs.
  18. New scan this afternoon: Held in Warehouse. Looking that up it could mean: damage to package, insufficient address, or inspection by customs. So we shall see. I've bought and sold packages all over the planet and I've never had this much trouble before.
  19. Along with obsessing over the location of my BBBs, I've been following this thread too. Great work and love seeing the progress!
  20. The slowest part of doing this project is waiting for the right conditions to paint. We've had so much rain that I had to wait for a dry low humidity day to do the base coat and let it dry for 2 days. Then I had to wait for another dry day and put the next coat on and repeat the process. I think I'll get the outer white coat on today and let it dry another two days and then I'll be ready for sanding finally.
