Well it’s official I am now TD12322. Now I need to go troop a few times and work on a pack for PO submission. Thank you everyone for your help and inspiration.
-
Well I did it. Application to the Legion submitted, photos to the GML. Now we wait and look for droids in the sand.
-
Quick test fit before final weathering. I'm happy with the thigh fix.
And the back
-
First time in the full kit. Felt nice. Still have a little weathering to do and a few tweaks.
See anything that needs attention?
-
Thank you everybody for the encouragement. Hoping to wrap this up soon and finally submit for approval.
-
Spent some more time sanding, added a bit more putty, then more sanding. Hit it with a very ugly coat of gloss white.
Pretty big improvement. Not pristine but enough.
-
Thank You for the input, Hausi. Very appreciative. For now I'll be happy with basic, but PO is the goal. I have to do the same repair to do on the other leg. I'll practice my painting skills on that one.

First pass at weathering, not horrible. Needs a little cleaning up, then another pass with the "oily grime" layer.
-
Thank you. I used a ABS and acetone paste. I didn’t paint it but I did sand and polish it. A lot of sanding. Just finished up a first pass of weathering. More Pics to follow.

My solution to my problem
Any thoughts?

My solution to my thigh problem.

Reposting here from my build thread for visibility.
Here is a picture of disaster of a thigh. I measured and taped and did it again. I still managed to mess it up, the question is how bad.
So the situation is I trimmed for width, then trimmed for length. As I did that I made them too tight. By a decent amount. I opened up the front as much as I could and added a shim which leaves me here. Any thoughts on if this is approvable? Any fixes?
My plan is to try to source a replacement set of thighs at some point, but I would like to get this done soon.
Thank you for looking

Been a while since I updated this. My Family was impacted by the Camp Fire in Paradise CA. My Mom and Sister lost their home in Magalia and my Grandma was trapped in her home. She has been tentatively identified , but we are still waiting for DNA confirmation. Needless to say I haven't done a lot of 501st related things lately. My Grandma has always been a fan of sci fi and the Star Wars universe. I think she would be proud that I finally finished this project.

Getting the final parts done. I've been afraid to start cutting on my thighs, so here goes nothing. Pic of the first test fitting/taping.
Thanks for any input.

A few more pics:
Really happy with the chest armor. My bucket has the first pass of Burnt Umber on it and will benefit from the second pass of oily black soon. What do you guys think?

Time to resurrect this thread from the mostly dead. Much has changed since my last post. Life sort of got in the way of this build, along with project ADD. So after a move to a new state and ordering a TB armor kit, I decided to get my Sandy done. Much progress has been made and submission to a new GML is in sight. Glad to be back in Mos Eisley and getting dirty again.

Very cool, Kman. I like that bracket set up. Thanks for sharing.

I thought I would start a conversation here about helmet fans. So do you use them? How many, 1 or 2? Kit or DIY? Or just your general thoughts. Please feel free to add a picture of your bucket.
Cheers

Are you following the instructions like described here: http://mrnostripes.weebly.com/
Yup, that's what I did. I bought the kit from Trooper Bay. I think my elastic is much shorter than those shown in Mr No Stripes instructions.
-
So yeah, totally didn't fit. I'm guessing I need to lose about two inches. My question is do I remove material from the abdomen or the chest? I feel like trimming the abd is the best move because it is covered by the chest. Think I'll pause on the front and move on to some arms.
-
I made some progress with my armor today. I started working on the abdomen and chest piece. I'm not entirely happy with the strapping system. It doesn't seem to line up at all and the fit is off. I do like how the abd rivets and snap turned out.
Any input on the strapping system? I'm thinking of lengthening the elastic to try to increase the overlap along with repositioning the brackets to line up better.
