TD12322 (TheSleepyLlama) Tour of Duty Log (25 Arrests)
The Sleepy Llama replied to The Sleepy Llama's topic in Tours of Duty
Thank you, the last three shots were from Jason Miller, a talented CCG Member. I really like this pic to, but I don't know for sure who took it. It just feels like we were on set in Tunisia. -

Congrats on the kit, enjoy your build. There is a whole section of the four dedicated to weathering. I highly recommend pandatroopers technique.

Welcome Craig. You have defiantly come to the right place for information on Sandys. If you are looking in to actually forming your own armor parts vs buying a kit, I would strongly encourage you not to. The armor is for the most part vacuum formed ABS plastic. To do this on your own requires you to sculpt a mold, cast a buck and the finally form the plastic. Then you need to trim, assemble and fit the armor to you. It's an insane amount of work, with lots of research, trail and error and a steep learning curve. I have a AM Armor kit and have zero complaints with his work. Take a look around here and over at whitearmor.net for a ton of build threads and advice on all the different manufactures. Also if your local garrison has meet and greets or build parties, go to them. You will be inspired to move forward and meet some amazing people. Best of luck to you. Steve

So 4 troops down and I think I am really happy with how things are looking and wearing. I have my "move along" pack ordered and look forward to submitting for Police Officer. I would like to improve my helmet situation. It's difficult to get on because the tubes angle down and tend to ride on the chest armor. I can deal with the limited visibility but it's a pain to put the thing on. Anybody see anything that needs improvement ?

return edge size for chest and ab plate.
The Sleepy Llama replied to Robster's topic in Sandtrooper Armor
Hey Rob. I'm not positive on the return edge size, but I'd think 5-6 mm would be good. There is a great picture in the CRL thread in the PO section of the forum. Just measured screws in the kit I got from Trooper Bay, they are about 4 mm across. As for a backing plate I've heard people are using thin ABS strips and ABS paste to reenforce the return edge. Good luck with your replacement- 1 reply

Well I did it. Application to the Legion submitted, photos to the GML. Now we wait and look for droids in the sand.

Sleepy Llamas thigh problem

Quick test fit before final weathering. I'm happy with the thigh fix. And the back -
First time in the full kit. Felt nice. Still have a little weathering to do and a few tweaks. See anything that needs attention?

Spent some more time sanding, added a bit more putty, then more sanding. Hit it with a very ugly coat of gloss white. Pretty big improvement. Not pristine but enough. -

Thank You for the input, Hausi. Very appreciative. For now I'll be happy with basic, but PO is the goal. I have to do the same repair to do on the other leg. I'll practice my painting skills on that one. Steve -

First pass at weathering, not horrible. Needs a little cleaning up, then another pass with the "oily grime" layer.
