  1. It doesn't look bad, I use more than just burnt umber though. Personally I use raw umber mixed with raw sienna , apply it and wipe it off and then add raw umber mixed with Payne grey and since that's darker I apply that in recessed areas and wipe off. After the paint I hit it with hairspray and add fullers earth and scrub that off with sandpaper that way you get different levels of wear and it looks less uniform color and pattern wise. Here are some photos of my helmet in progress. bea18bcf447a32669739ee42c36bb0fe.jpg0de8612efbe5f4a70b17224f740ed31c.jpg97e91768c6756c6cc198fa66e4430355.jpgdb0f435fac13ff13b411707e0b337ea7.jpg

  2. I'm looking around for a cnc barrel to do an e11 build on. I saw that Phoenix Props used to sell them and even an entire kit. Id be interested in that or possibly doing a build from a real parts kit. Does anyone know where I might be able to find what I'm looking for? Thanks in advance!

  3. Looking good! When you get around to the backpack I would definitely look at what Crashmann offers. I know there are several people that offer good kits, I built the one by Crashmann and really liked it.

  4. HappyTrooper.Com thanks for the recommendation for the backpack straps. I just finished my backpack and ordered a pair. They work perfectly! Real easy to attach without any hardware and they're sturdy too.

  5. After about 2 months I finished my field pack. I bought a Crashmann kit and it was the perfect winter project. I'm waiting on padded shoulder straps but consider it complete otherwise. Here are a few photos with my son modeling the gear. (The pauldron isn't weathered yet). Thanks to everyone who answered questions and posted WIPs they were a huge help! Eventually I should have the rest of my armor but this was a great " in the meantime" project!

  6. Is there a source for decals for the radio? I know trooperbay sells them but they're in English. Or is that movie accurate, I cannot tell from the stills I've seen. And if trooperbay are the ones to get do they properly fit a Crashmann radio? Thanks in advance for any help!

  7. Hey, I'm sure someone here can give me the correct answers!

Backpack #3- Does it have the lab pipe on the left side (looking at it from the back)? I've seen it with and without. In fact the photos here showing the different packs has it without.

What color should the hanger be that holds the canteen/stinger to the bottom of the seed tray?

Do the screws that go through the mushroom caps get painted?

Are there specific measurements for how to accurately place the various pieces on top of the seed trays?

Thanks in advance for your help it's much appreciated! This Crashmann kit is a lot of fun to build

  8. Thought I'd share this process I used to make capacitors. I found these screw caps at an ACE hardware in the isle with the loose nuts and bolts, they're $.33. I used the lid on the bottom of the pvc tube and used the part with the hole for the top. I glued a scrap piece of plastic to cover the hole and then drilled small hole through that to fit a piece of coat hanger through. Then I hot glued the coat hanger in place and glued that in the top of the capacitor. The tops are a perfect fit for the tube. I think they look pretty good, and it saves on having to cut out tiny circles of plastic.

  9. Thanks, here's the tool box. The one thing I found works best is to glue the bottom part of the side pieces on the jig only, and then glue the vertical edges when it's off the jig. I put each box together in about 3 minutes. Zap a Gap held them perfectly and now I'll reinforce them with E6000.7be4f07edce996f1f8ffd7bad15dfe7c.jpg

  10. I'm working on my back pack and needed to make the tool box and radio. I thought about using wood or plastic squares to ensure the boxes ended up square. Instead using three scraps of plywood I made a jig to make the gluing process easier than trying to tape everything together. As long as the jig is square all you have to do is lay your floor plate and sides on the base and you can glue them with zap a gap and zip kicker to hold them and follow up with e6000 or whatever you want. This worked out really well for me so I thought I'd pass it along.ae63bf0abec02a2d7d8616134709f1ec.jpg0970e43dd3eec3d9bcd8f9e414f52da1.jpg
