  1. Hey folks.

So working on the TD,And i think i am almost done done to join the 501st.

But currently i am not happy with my weathering. I used just acrylic and alot of black oil like acrylic rather then a sandy look.

I have seen a few sandys here in the U.K who have great weathering with Fuller's Earth,My current problem is that i don't know much about the fuller's earth in the uk,As i saw american videos that have dark browns, sandy and grey colours.

So if anyone knows where to get these kinds of coloured fullers earth it would help alot

but I have been thinking of alternitives,As i am currently living in a island in scotland and we have many amazing beaches here (Already planning some good photos in the near future, currently in the western isle/stornoway). And i thought maybe i could collect some sand tommorrow,re-spray my armour white with Appliance paint and work with real beach sand, acrylics and possibly even order some black sand from the internet.

I was just wondering has anyone tried this?.

    Thanks a bunch guys :td:

(p.s just a photo of my armour currently,i know the arm is funny looking,it's a w.i.p but just to show i think i can do much better on the weathering on it)

  2. Hi Bro,

just to outline the basic process; 1st level is sandtrooper which is your 501st legion entry and approved by your local GMO. 2nd level is PO and 3rd level SWAT, both approved here at the MEPD. Each level requires that you have been approved on the previous one, i.e. you're not eligible for Swat if you are not a PO.

    Hope that helps!

Helps a ton! thanks! :) brilliant i should be able to apply for P.O very soon. I just posted a w.i.p form on the local garrison page and now being assigned an armourer to help me. Going to be a busy few weekends i think :')

  3. Hey folks.

So i thought i might as well post here too considering i'm not sure if i will get an answer on the form i posted on the UKG. (31 views and 0 replies)

I am currently getting my kit to level 3 requirements. But that will take a few more weekends,Time to get ready. I should hit level 1 requirements by this coming week.

My question is should i start my submission when i think it's ready for Level 1 requirements? Or should i wait till i get everything at least level 3 requirements?

Either way beyond excited and i will be applying for police officer as soon as i hit level 3 :). (Which one last question how do then apply form level 1 to 3 if i do it this way)

(P.s i do understand the thigh ammo part and Sniper knee plate is on the wrong side,It's been fixed as well as i am working on a repaint and dirty boots/Pauldren)

    :td:

  4. if you can find some fiberglass mesh tape from a hobby shop - it wouldn't hurt to use it as a backing to give something the "slurry" can grip to.

I did something similar on an old helmet where a split had formed.

for smaller things, like button sized or greeblie sized, I keep an acrylic nail powder kit, superglue and styrofoam packing material around.

Thanks man :) Deffo getting some on order.

  5. For the lines, you'll want to use a high grit sandpaper and wet sand them off. Think 1000 grit and higher. For the cracks, you take some of your scrap abs and cut into small pieces and put them in a class jar that you have a lid for. Top it with acetone and let it sit overnight. The next day mix it with a wooden craft stick and apply it. Let it dry for 24 hours and sand it smooth.

I have heard of this "slurry" before but haven't actually looked into it until i found a youtube vid about it,Pretty sure it will work for the cracks! Thanks a ton,And i'll try the sandpaper and wetsand. Never again will i rush anything with my kit lol. Thanks a ton :)

  6. Hey folks!

So i hope to finally get my application going for the 501st/UKG this month/next. And one of the last few problems i have is Armour damage.

So sadly i got a few armour cracks from trooping/traveling and not being able to find a suitable place to keep my armour (Getting a Mannquinn soon for display/Organisation)

I have tried a few things,Like putting E6000 on a white bit from an old shirt, and gluing it down,The crack wouldent stay flush.

I have also tried putting a spare bit of ABS on the back and yet again woulden't stay flush.

I have considered just using the white bit from an old shirt again as some back support,And use Bondo to fill the cracks and sand it down.

But i haven't found anyone who has done that idea yet,I was wondering if anyone can help me about this?

Crack on the lower cod piece is the most damaged,There are a few cracks on the under of my helmet/cheek but this is how it looks.

And my last question i hope to get some unwanted paint marks off (the acrlyic sorta created these "lines" from my stupidity with the paint and bring a quick rush job,Which i now know never rush anything with the armour) But if anyone has used a simple electric sander on the armour to get rid of acrylic paint,If it would be okay to use it on the armour?

    Thanks.

    Rue~

  7. I had to cut and move the straps for installation to my belt as well... I will be replacing it soon anyways with another from Anthony.

glad to know i'm not the only one :'). I might get new pouches for the future but for now these ones will do,it came with the kit for the sandtrooper from R.S Prop masters.

  8. As you said that i already cutt one of the loops to re-install tomorrow,Turns out they where probably supposed to be for the backpack,Will look better on my sides anyway :) thank's.

Just to make sure, are you attaching that pouch to your belt?

If so, yes, adding new loops or modifying those would be a solution.

If you were to attach them to your backpack strap, just run the strap through the loops as they are.

    Saludos.

  9. Ah okay, thank's very much i just thought for a bit it might be a certain way to wear them like Molle-pouches. Thanks :)

Yup, you'll need to take them off and probably attach new ones if they don't fit with your belt.

  10. Hey folks so i recently got the last items for my sandtrooper. All i need left to do is create the shims on the sides and redo the strapping and i should be applying to my local garison.

My problem is the odd loops i got on the side pouches,i can't figure out how it feeds on to my belt,or if i have to take them off and re-sew them. Any help?

    Thanks. :woot:

  11. Hey folk's. So this month i am finally getting my armour up to scratch at least for membership/The officer program.

I am currently trying to get my armour ready for membership with my local garrison the UKG

I don't know what is really nessessery for basic membership as my armour is getting there slowly after a reasearch the details etc. But one of the thing's while reading up on one of the members trying to get membership is the side rivets. I was just wondering what kinda rivets are these? Also are there not supposed to be any rivets on the right side?

So far i do have quite a bit left to do but i am getting there slowly. And my last question is how many screws are ment to be under the chest plate? I count 2 in the link down below but i seen members have many seprated thoughout the bottom, and i like the idea of being a few more spreaded then just 2 in the middle.

    http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/tutorials/article/14-howto-original-strapping-tms-personal-1-mm-anh-weatherd-armour/ (rivets)

And here's a recent photography pic of me just for fun :)

Anything els about getting my armour to scratch would be really helpful. Thanks!!! :)

  12. There are many suit's made by people/companies. As well as there are alot of rip off's out there which are not screen-acurate such as Rubie's armour. My armour is from a company in manchester called "R.S Props" There are ton's of trusted retailer's listed in the forms just do a bit of digging to find what's best for you. I don't see a sandtrooper kit in Anovo's site but sandtrooper's are a bit more different then stormtrooper's in detail such as different knee plate,ab buttons etc.

Hope i helped a little,i'm still new myself,Good luck and hope you will be trooping soon!

  13. Hey folk's! So the sandtrooper kit is coming along nicely,I will likely requesting my membership soon. But one thing is bothering me. Currently i live in the highlands of scotland,And i travel down south now alot to conventions such as next month i got at least 3.

One i'm having to travel by myself in my armour for 4 hours on a train!. (Going to be awkward but i'm sure it wont cause to much hassle.

One of my concerns though is the backpack,My next couple of cons invovle long train rides down south (Doncaster and Edinburgh)

So my question is how do you travel with your backpack?

And my last question is also i have finally gotten my voice box working and conected to my chest plate,But i really want to install the background sound (the transmission ambiance),And make it stop when i am talking so it dosn't cause a bother.

Anyone found a way around this?

    Thank's!

  14. Ya i guess it would be with the UK Garrison then. Thanks :td:

Go to 501st.com and find what Garrison you belong to based on where you live. There should be contact info there for your GML.

From the pictures, it looks like you have been to a troop in your area. I'm sure one of the other troopers in the picture could help you get in touch with your GML.

Also, check out the CRL on 501st.com. A backpack is not required for basic approval. As long as you meet the basic CRL requirements you'll pass just fine.

  15. Yes that's exactly what i was thinking of doing. I heard spray paint is tricky,Is that all you did? Cause what i was thinking was just getting a glossy white spray-paint and then dirtying it up again.

  16. How do i get in contact with my local GML?. I am almost at the point of finishing off my armour,at the moment all thats really needed is to create shim's,my new boots and leathers are coming, still need to fix the backpack etc.

If you aren't approved yet as a 501st member, I would check with your GML and get their opinion on the weathering.

My GML was a little picky about the weathering and it took me 3 tries to get it to where she would approve it.

I do think yours looks good though. You can always check out the weathering section here for more ideas if you aren't satisfied yet.

  17. Thank's for the message guy's,And yes my amour isn't 100% complete yet,the legs are going to be higher (and move v shaped then I so not so much black is gonna show, and im ordering a quilaty pauldren from RS Props,i just needed a cheap little thing for this event) Thank's for the messages,Weathering i know is a very personalised thing,my current weathering i just dont like, insted im just gonna re-paint it with acrylic and weather it again :) thanks!
