[Backpack Frames]

I used 1" PVC tubing + four elbows for my pack as I couldn't find a used ALICE frame within budget. ABS'd it together and spray painted it. I made the straps myself and - like others - used padding to prevent heavy scraping.

Pretty much ditto, except I used 1/2" PVC.

Those pictures are making me feel really bad about my FX helmet. How big of a noggin is TOO big for the more accurate helmet?

I did it over the couse of a few days, about 30 minutes at a time tops. It probably didn't take more than 2-3 horus total, but I wanted the paints to dry.

I used tempura paints.

I actually have a couple of pauldrons, so maybe I'll find a more permanent solutions. Thanks for the ideas though, I'll perform a few tests maybe.

[straps]

I went totally without fasteners. I simply rivetted some nylon straps around the frame at the correct length. For me it's simply easier to slip the pack on without worry about trying to find & snap the ends together.

Along the same lines, does anyone have advice for either temporarily or permanately coloring a white pauldron?

If the garrison walks in next year's St. Patrick's day parade I'd like to color the 3 panels green, white(already that color), & gold/orange.

i.e. something like this quick photoshop, but better.

Looks really good, but I have two nitpicks:

Dirty up that ammo pouch, & lose the thermal detonator.

The two main boxes will be made from these plastic, cat litter containers. They measure roughly 14"x10"x4"(LWD). They're a little on the shallow side, but not shallow enough that I'm sure I want to double them up. You're mileage may vary.

You can see the size here in comparison to the thermal detonator.

I put everything into a large (Rubbermaid?) bin I bought at Menard's, with the exception of my backpack. I usually just put it on top of that bin since I couldn't fit much more in my car.
