  1. Interesting thread for sure. Paul is 100% correct, this armour does indeed appear to be a re-cast of our armour (based on the imges shown). For the maker to claim the sculpts were destroyed whilst making the tools, without so much of an images of the sculpts before the process was carried out is a bad joke, does this story stand up within our community?

I can confirm that no permissions have been given to anyone in relation to recasting our armour. To clarify, our armour is cast directly from an original suit AND is endorsed by the original sculptor, Brian Muir.

    Rob.

Thanks Rob. We've been trying to get someone on FISD with an NE kit to take some side by side comparisons photos with a RS set to provide solid proof of recasting. However, this is proof enough for me. There are a ton of NE builds in process on FISD if you want to take a look. Here are a few

I cannot, personally or as the DL of FISD, in good conscious recommend this armor to anyone. However I'm not and will not turn anyone away on FISD who buys it needs help assembling it, or applies for EIB/Cenutrion.

The truth of the matter is that the NE guys are producing inexpensive and readily available TK armor. We're going to be seeing a lot of new TKs sporting NE.

    Aloha nui my dirty brothers,

    -Eric

  2. Aloha all,

For those of you who I know secretly hide your shiny white plastic.... Based on voting done nearly a year ago on FISD the TK CRLs have been changed slightly.

Here is an overview of what is different:

    BELT

    • ANH Stunt, ANH Hero, ESB, HWT, Deathtrooper: Vinyl or plastic belts are no longer allowable for basic 501st approval. The belt must be canvas. The width specification has been changed as well.

      • "The soft belt proper is made of canvas, or material with a canvas covering. Size must be 2.75” (70 mm) to 3.25”(83 mm) wide and not wider than the plastic portion of the belt. The color is be white to off-white."
    • ROTJ, INC, TKC, SKY: Vinyl or plastic belts are no longer allowable for basic 501st approval. The belt must be nylon. The width specification has been changed as well.

      • "The soft belt proper is tightly woven nylon/cordura like/style material or material with a tightly woven nylon/cordura like/style covering. Size must be 2.25" (57mm) to 2.5" (64mm) wide. The color is to be white to off-white."

    HOLSTER

    • ESB: New basic level wording specifies that the holster must be on the right side and looped on belt.

      • "Holster is worn on right side of belt. Holster will be made of completely black leather or leather-like material and be worn on the right and affixed via two black loops over the belt (no fasteners)."
    • INC, TKC, SKY, HWT: Holsters are no longer allowed at the base level for these costumes.

      • "Holster must be omitted from this costume."
    • Deathtrooper: Added wording to match ANH belt specifications but still kept as an optional accessory.

      • "Holster may be omitted from the costume. If a holster is worn, it will be made of black leather or leather-like material. Worn on the left side of belt and be attached from behind, with no loops covering the outside of the belt. The holster will be affixed with two fasteners at the bottom of the belt instead of none or four. The fasteners may be rivets, snaps, or Chicago screws."

    KIDNEY & BUTT PLATE

    • ANH Stunt, ANH Hero, ESB, HWT, Deathtrooper: A one piece kidney/butt is no longer allowable at the base level.

      • "A separate kidney plate shall be present, split from the butt plate."
    • ROTJ, INC, TKC, SKY: These costumes must have a one piece kidney/butt.

      • "A separate kidney/butt plate is not allowed - the kidney and butt plate shall be combined/fused to a single plate/one piece."

    WHITE U-TRIM

    • ROTJ, INC, TKC, SKY: The white U-trim requirement has been moved from EIB to the base level for torso parts.

    • "A white flexible U shaped gasket or molded lip shall be present around all edges."

    AB PLATE BUTTONS

    • ROTJ, INC, TKC, SKY: The inverted ab bottons have been moved from EIB to base level approval.

    • "The ab plate has a button area that matches the color pattern shown (3 dark blue + 6 charcoal grey or black); buttons are approximately 7/16" (11mm) in diameter. The three dark blue buttons will be the three buttons closest to the belt. Ab plate button detail shall be inverted compared to ANH/ESB."

    THERMAL DETONATOR

    • ANH Stunt, ANH Hero, ESB: Metal clips are now part of the base requirement. The size of the detonator and orientation of the control panel are now specified.

      • "(A.K.A. O2 canister) attaches to the center back of the belt. This is an all gray cylinder without silver stickers or silver paint. The cylinder is between 2” (50mm) and 2.68"(68mm) in diameter with white end caps on each end. The white control panel pad faces upwards, with controls/round washer style detail closest to the right end cap. The total length should be approximately 7.50" (190.5mm). The thermal detonator shall be attached via metal or metallic-appearing clips approximately 1" (25mm) wide."

Please let me know if you have any questions.

  3. Before nominations were over I asked Ingrid who she was voting for. She said Eric and I said awesome! So, you've got my vote as well!

I knew Ingrid would come in handy sooner than later. She's the best, no?

Don't tell anyone but I secretly have a set of clean armour under my bed so I will vote for you Eric.

But I will like to know if you are elected the FISD DL, will you still be in charge of our web stuff?

**** straight. I'll continue to serve as the web host for IOC Mepd sld and FISD ;)

    Many thanks for everyone's support.

    -Eric

  4. Aloha kakou,

Most of you know me as your friendly neighborhood MEPD web host. Seeing as many of you dirty mongrels also keep a set of clean armor on hand I want to announce here that I am running for Detachment Leader (DL) of the 1st Imperial Stormtrooper Detachment (FISD.) I have been active member of the senior staff of FISD for over a year. You may know me as the FISD Chief Tactical Officer or the web host guy. I have a record of working easily with disparate international groups and I avoid drama through mutual understanding and consensus building.

The only approved 501st Imperial Legion costume I own is a TK. I sport an EIB approved RT-MOD kit because I’m too tall to be a stormtrooper. I had never been a fan of Halloween or costumes until I purchased a crappy rubies Vader and wore it with flowery board shorts, flip flops, and a lei. The excited look on kids' faces that Halloween had me hooked from the very moment I stepped onto the street. There was no stopping me from joining the 501st to enjoy a larger community of like-minded Star Wars nuts and to be able to help others while doing it. In my personal life I try to be of service to my community as much as possible. The 501st lets me do that at the same time as being a real life action figure.

Beyond ensuring that TKs old and new always look their best, my goals for 2013 are as follows:

    • Continue with the charter to maintain the FISD sense of inclusiveness and "Troopers Helping Troopers" for new and existing TKs.
    • Add more entries to the TiKipedia that houses reference information for every TK armor part in the CRL.
    • Create an incentive program to encourage existing TKs to update their costume to current basic standards.
    • Work with the GMO to improve the base CRL to align it with modern armor construction and availability.
    • Implement a formal attaché program to educate local garrisons about various TK related construction methods and costume requirements.
    • Create a CRL change policy that ensures updates to the TK CRLs are voted and implemented properly and with transparency.
    • Bring back the staff position of Detachment Armorer.
Here is a list of my accomplishments while on the FISD staff:
    • Maintained a tutorials database for TK related HOWTOs including a beta of the TiKipedia reference guide.
    • Along with other forum admins, implemented photo reference gallery with 2,400 screen capture and reference imagery
    • Created photo reference checklists for both Expert Infantry and Centurion applicants.
    • Rewrote the Expert Infantry and Centurion application guidelines with photo examples of each CRL requirement.
    • Installed and maintained content management system to allow for mission statement and "about" FISD web pages.
    • Two-time winner of Trooper of the Month for my contributions to FISD.
Why should you vote for me?

FISD Experience - I was asked to be on the FISD staff nearly a month after my TK approval. For over a year I have been maintaining the FISD website and its forum software. During my time on the FISD staff I have been involved with the inner workings of the detachment and have had my hand in the likes of policy setting and CRL changes.

Leadership - If elected I intend to set clearly communicated priorities for FISD. I will create specific goals to achieve those priorities and, when necessary, delegate related tasks to a dedicated group of staff members. Along the way those priorities will be revisited and goals adjusted accordingly. I am a hands-on leader and feel confident in jumping into the role of any of my staff members if need be. In my non-TK life I have been a team lead and manager of technical people for 13 years. I understand that to build a successful team a leader must surround himself with a trusted group of very smart people.

Vigilance - As most of you know I am an active member of the FISD forums. For the past two years I have followed nearly every thread and read almost all posts in a daily basis. My contributions are visible not only by the forum features I have added, but my posts as well.

Transparency - It is vital to me that the entire detachment knows what our priorities are. Communication must be clear and consistant across the board. Additionally everyone on staff should know what the DL is doing and why. As much as possible information about the running of the detachment must be posted on the forum. Back channel communication for important matters will not be tolerated.

Professionally, I operate, test, deploy, (break) and maintain ocean going robots for a living. In past lives I have been a system administrator for enterprise class unix systems, a wood boat builder, and yacht crew. Personally, in my spare time I scuba dive, paddle 6 man hawaiian outrigger canoes competitively and scurry about my wood shop pretending to build furniture. I live on the Big Island of Hawai'i at 3100 ft elevation in the town known to most (except the US post office) as Waimea. I am happily married to a very patient woman. We have a 2 year old boy and a mangy lovable mutt.

    Mahalo for your consideration.

  5. Thanks Eric. I would keep as nickname. That is what most if us know each other as anyway. Really appreciate what you do man

    You got it boss.

Reload and tell me what you think. I suck at making things look good.

I put the call sign in parenthesis because many people use their TD # as their forum call sign and it looked weird.... but I can format it any way you guys want.

    -Eric

  6. I reordered the swat page... it was sorted by wordpress post title... I changed it to sort by date. New are now at the bottom.

    Cool?

Oh and I quickly checked it against this list:

    TD-252 / ROLF / SWAT OFFICER # 001

    TD-3936 / TROOPER1 / SWAT OFFICER # 002

  7. Yes. Line 24 snap will work for the right hand snap and all your armor strapping needs. Look to Tandy leather for snaps and also buy the setting tool and anvil from them.

Stay away from the dritz brand snaps and those stupid pliers. Hammer set is the way to go.

    Aloha,

    -Eric

  8. And from there you will be a sand storm away from being a real badass imperial Sandtrooper.

    :)

    Saludos.

That's the plan :) All I need is (the funds for) armor. Helmet, pauldron, pouches, pack are all acquired :)

I was being sarcastic about going HWT. Please refer to the prior "ewwwww" comment LOL

    -Eric

  9. As I've been saying on FISD... EU is pronounced "ewwwwwww"

I'm not a fan of the expanded universe stuff or video game characters in general... but the Heavy Weapons Trooper from Star Wars Battlefront I'm guessing was a bit of a badass. I wouldn't know.

Regardless of what I think of HWT, INC, TKC or any of the other video game TKs (and I've said this often) I think that FISD will provide the bests tewardship for those EU CRLs.

I've got a pack and pauldron. I guess I'm one BFG away from the HaWTness.

    -Eric

  10. lol... good to know it wasn't the patch! :)

Yeah I was crapping bricks for a moment :)

I have been ignoring the fact that Tapatalk is now an ipb hook for a few versions. It's is nice not having to remember modify each board index template with a <SCRIPT> tag.

  11. The IPB security patch?

Hmmm the old tapatalk works with the recent IPB patch. I'm using it with a recently patched FISD. I patched SLD, MEPD, FISD and IOC last night but MEPD was the only one I dropped a new tapatalk on. I wonder if the new tapatalk is broken because of the patch. Good point.

I'm working on tapatalk now and I'll let everyone know when its back again.

    Thanks for your patience,

    -Eric
