  1. This is totally OFF TOPIC.

I recently directed a film for a film festival where you pick a feature film and re create / re tell the entire movie in 60 seconds.

So I teamed up with the local Star Trek group and created our own version of Star Trek 4 The Voyage Home ( because Vancouver looks a lot like San Francisco  )

Doesn't matter where you live, you can watch the movie and vote. Hit the "Like" button if you like my Vulcan hair......

    Lots and Lots of Love.

  2. After debating wither to purchase the molded radio kit off Trooperbay or to really hunt down the real thing, I have finally decided to build the hardest part of the Sandtrooper pack from Scratch.

For those who live in Vancouver, there's a department store called Daiso in Richmond. Actually I should give credits to Terry Pandatrooper, where he purchased a few lunch boxes in that store for my field pack. Within the plastic kitchenware section, there are contains of every single dimension you can possible think of. The closest thing I could find there were these two First Aid kit boxes:

Oddly enough, when I put the two boxes together, it measures 8.75 X 6.5 X 3.

So here I am, jolted up with 2 cups of coffee and started what could be the most productive week of my geeky life or the most epic failure in the history of my workbench.......

First off, sliced out the lids, trimmed out the hinges.

Aligned everything, clammed the boxes together. Between the boxes, there's a 0.80 mm, so I scored and snapped a piece of styrene, nailed the two boxes together with the sheet of plastic in the middle.

Covering up the sides of the radio, I'm running 0.05m styrene sheets on the outside of the box. Sanded all the plastic covers and applied E-6000 glue. Going to keep it clamped over night and I'll see what happens in the morning.

    To be continued..........

  3. Oops, how did this picture get up here?

    Posted Image

Oh, yes, the hot water pipe underneath my bedroom broke. So I'm building everything in the backyard in the meantime.

    Day 3

Went to purchase some extra Rare Earth magnets. Every trooper needs to have these when building an armor. Just don't work on a metal table like I did here.....

    Leave 8mm when trimming.

The clamps tend to shift the halves apart, so after I took this photo, I had to realign the ABS strip, re clamp the ends, place the earth magnets back in to the middle section.

    Posted Image

It takes a good 20 minutes to glue the halves together. I know that because I went to remove the clamps after the first period of the Nuck's games.....HEHE. :D

Up next, the right thigh. Stay tuned.

  4. Thanks for being a great spectator! If you see anything that needs fixing, sound up.

    Anyways....DAY 1

In between the Canuck games, I started trimming the forearm, biceps and shoulder bells.

Correct me if I am wrong, my understanding is that there is no return edge on the top side of the forearm ? So I did a rough trim of the two pieces and left enough room for correction.

I forgot to mention, I pulled a muscle last weekend on my sea kayaking training course, so I'm taking it easy with my right wrist / forearm.

However, the RC plastic scissors have proven to be very easy to use when trimming ABS, a lot better than the "cut and score" method.

I should go in to work tomorrow wearing this instead of a tensor bandage.....

My dog Max can't wait to see the helmet assembled.

  5. One morning, I had a revelation: Press the restart button, build a new armor!

So I ordered the ATA ABS kit.

Finally got it in the mail this afternoon!

My hands were sweating when I picked up the part. Took a quick glance inside the box. Surprisingly, everything fits in to such a small box.

Anyways, going to watch the Canucks games tonight and worry about trimming tomorrow. ( No offense to any Chicago based troopers ;) )

  6. Welcome to the sand pit Yves!

I've done a lot of video editing in my day as well. Started with "old" VHS reel-to-reel decks back in the mid-80s. And can now use Final Cut and the like very easily... though I don't have much occasion for it anymore.

Great to have you "officially on the forum!"

And congrats on your 501st approval! :salute:

Next stop, MEPD deployment... right?! B)

    Hi Nol,

Thanks, and yes I am working on building my backpack. I should actually thank Terry, or Pandatrooper, who's now MEPD deployed. He helped me a lot with my armor.

" Troops" the mockumentary, is one of the reasons I became 501st. So Yeah, I want to start shooting fan films soon.

  7. Greetings troopers,

I've been on the forum for a while, but I haven't had a chance to introduce myself.

My name is Yves, from North Vancouver, BC ( also known as Caprica City B) ). I got approved as 501st in late October 2010. I'm a videographer and film editor. My appreciation for the original trilogy movies and armor building has always been big, and after I came back from Celebration V in Orlando this summer, it has gone even bigger.

Looking forward to talk to ya'll or meet in person.

    Regards,

    Yves
