  1. Sorry for falling off my Dewback back there guys, I’m just now getting back into the saddle and apologize for the lack of response these past two months… It turns out my email account at mail.com expired and they have me back as a nonpaying user with free limited email, so apparently I’ve been bouncing emails from yahoo groups and others all summer. ( you can also now reach me at bamatrooper@gmail.com ) … Plus I’ve been a little more attentive to the new Clonetrooper detachment ( http://clonetrooeprs.net) where I am the detachment XO, as it has needed my resources much more than this established group, and now has consumed them even more. Not to mention, I’m still a Garrison CO and have been fairly active in the Legion Council with all these LCO “issues” that also demand what is left of my free time.. With all of this said, it is my first duty to serve the Legion, not to be a boat anchor. I am wearing too many hats when we have a very ample group of members who can step up and share the load. … I took over the MEPD from Joe at exactly this time last year, just before DragonCon, and I would be up for giving someone a battlefield promotion now, or waiting until the Legion election time at year end. I do not plan to run for DL of the MEPD next year, as I have served my tour of duty and would like to see the detachment continue with another person as DL next year, as everyone brings something different to the group. I’m always a Dirty trooper in heart and soul and always will participate here, so I’m not going anywhere, but I realize that I can’t devote all of the time needed to all of the things that I want to do, so I’ll eventually be stepping back into the ranks with the rest of you dirty boys and girls, and letting someone else ride up front for a while… As for open business, we do need to address the “deployed troopers” status and gallery soon though, as that well-intentioned project has all but stopped. Josh has done great work with the site, but the process for verifying deployed status, obtaining pics, editing pics, and getting them up to Josh, was lacking and unclear to some. JOsh has posted a new thread http://www.sandtrooper.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=514 to get the ball rolling again... I have had no luck with my patch maker getting our logo into a workable patch for a decent price. Either the costs are higher than 3.00 each, or the graphic is too fuzzy looking, the font is too small, etc.. I’ve heard from a couple of other troopers who are wanting to run with the patch project, so after checking a few references, I’ll see about approving one of them to get them done asap….. To make it up to you guys for my slacking this summer, any MEPD member at Dragoncon who catches me at one of the cantina’s, I’ll buy you a drink! -Joey 205-908-6195
  2. Hey Cliff, I traded my garriosn patch with you last week remember?! Welcome to the MEPD We wil be doing another run in July. I am in the process of getting that intel together and should have it submitted in a couple of weeks. stay tuned.. -Joey
  3. There were some at the one in SanFrancisco.
  4. I heard there were some good TD's at the Hollywood charity gig this week, was it anyone here??? -Joey
  5. the closest that i could find for off the shelf items were kitty litter pans from Walmart....
  6. welcome to the best duty assignment in the galaxy!
  7. Since we are all gathering for the big 501st pic on Sat am, we will be lined up by costume type ( ie the sandtrooeprs will be together somewhat..) So, right before we march to the RCA dome steps, This is the best time for us to huddle in for one big pic together... So plan on an early Sat morning.. The legion pic is to be forming at 8am, so why don't we plan to shoot a quick couple of pics at 810-815am?? -Joey TD-152 Plus the legion Droid hunt is on Saturday, so we may want ot particpate as TD's for the most part too...
  8. Cool idea, " Legion wide Sandtrooper Apprecitation Day..! " May 25th...
  9. Hoooaahh!! That fires me up!! Lets go shoot some Jawas!!!
  10. You can trim it to fit like an old pair of jeans. I can site, get down on all fours and do push ups, heck i've even fallen forward for a few film shots.. Of all my costumes, nothing fits better for me than my TD!
  11. Yeah Brak's I tend to agree with your site's observations, I just haven't really seen any with stripes on the teardrops because there are too many far away shots, but I'm willing to believe that none had this detail at all like you said. Pouches, yeah I wear two, both the MP38/40 leather ones made by a WWII re-enactors group ( leather was the pre-war versions before canvas) Man I realy like the idea that NONE of them had hard shoulder straps. Makes wearing the pack much easier..I can connect my armor with webbing! I've broken my plastic straps 3 times already so they look like smack all glued up several times.. Binocs - I have mine cliped to my belt, left side, with a cell phone clip.. Binders - I have mine also with a cell phone clip, on my right side just behind my right hip ammo pouch.. I usually go with an e-11, just my preference... I have a hardware MG34 for special occasions.. Pack, always.. I've gotten where i can maneuver well without taking out someone when i turn.. cool conversation, I think we're on to "improvements" with better defining the costume. We have to remember , the majority of our own TD's members may not be as aware of the details like this that make the costume better, so threads like this help educate us all and improve our quality.. .. thats the mission of the detachment idea in the 501st anyway!!. Continual improvement! -Joey TD-152
  12. that was being talked about somewhere else, RPF maybe?? Thats a great idea! If i can't be in the pic, I'll sure be taking a few!!! Make us proud!! -Joey
  13. ahh the same old debate.. either the idelized image or the exact detail on screen.. I think the emphasis here was more intended to be on a minimum list of requirements , as some items do vary depending on the scene, last min substitutions on the set, or for stunts, or just plain improvisation for a costume repair etc.... To take them point by point: ( my opinions only ) BFG- optional pouches - correct style and number (there are several kinds and configurations) backpack - optional* but a vast majority wears them except in the stunt scenes.... pauldron - a must (although one trooper is seen breifly without one, LFL has asked us to have all sandies with them) i'd treat this as a one-off exception, to make the troopers seem in a hurry to the docking bay some left there extra gear behind...??... Flat lenses - green- a must Diamond kenee - a must correct ab plate - a must no drop boxes - a must no TD on belt - a must slotted handbacks- optional Dirt - A must!!!!! plain decals on teardrops = ( is this another one or two off or is this really EVERY single sandie??) Lack of shoulder straps = ( i think this is due to having to wear the backpacks, for the comfort of the actors on the set... a mod for conveinience, not intended as a 'special attribute' of the armor..) either way, does the troopers with no pauldron and no backpack in the hanger have straps? if not, then it's a case for this to be a must.. if he does have straps, then this is optional as i see it... ANH armor or FX armor Well, someone make ANH kits for 500.00 and we will all ebay our FX armor in 5 minutes!!! until then, 500 vs 1500 is a no brainer for costuming.. for replica collectors, it's a no brainer to spend whatever for accuracy... anyone got a line on a ANH style kit for me??? PM me! Lets hear more opinions on each point ?!?!?! Our current list of requirements was basically a starting point for the deployed status,, it is always open for upgrading as new info and supplies became available to the group... -Joey TD-152 PS the BELT!- anyone have a definative answer on the belt being canvas or what around the back??? i think so and a must item too....
  14. Welcome to the Dirty side of the force!
  15. Hey cool colors! sonds like a good idea, but who can make them , laminated and all without a lot of expense?
  16. Good Job! Man I love to see how everyone does thier 'junk packs' differently , its a fun project to build. -Joey
  17. Yeah Joe, but we could use some tutorials, or some links in the requirements page to tutorials others have put up. Just to make the basics easy for the newbie to find...although the forums here are just for that purpose too....hmm.. -Joey
  18. good ideas, I've often wondered myself what to put in them to make then appear functional...
  19. Deffinately a good idea. We really ned each detachment type to create tutorials on thier costumes and parts, or at least have a organized grouping of links to other quality tutorials out there. Thats the goal fo the forums here, but things do get lost deep in threads... Maybe we should put a page together with FAQ's, about the costume of the sandtrooper.. What does eveyone thing of for content?
  20. Give new meaning to the line ... "Look sir , Droids!"
  21. After two years of having it from my suspenders, and the shoulder straps....I finally went like the movie suits and attached it to the backpack strap. It seems to work the best over all, but when bending down to talk to a kid or something I find the pouch swinging out and sometimes off the shoulder when i stand back up. I think i'm going to put a swatch of velcro on the bell and pouch to keep it on the shoulder bell more ...
