  1. Hi again, Well you may have noticed I am posting a lot recently, that is because my 2011 promise to myself is to actually finish some of the many projects I have. i am 39 this year and am also a modeller and already have more than a lifetimes work. Well No2 of my 7 helmets is my AP 2nd. I never noticed why it was a second until, and this may be the norm, the right rear back sink ( dip) My is? Should I fill or can I leave as is, it will be a Sandy and was always my intention to be but I would like your advice. I cut the eyes specific as leaving the edge and went for an average raised brow. Also have I shaped it ok and any points appreciated very many thanks, I am not a lover of cats being on worktops but we lost our dog a little time ago and now I do not mind if my little fried is interested, his name is Rory Regards Graham
  2. AMENDED THE LINK Hi all This is the guy i got my multi coloured helmet from that I made HDPE. Not a bad price, has anyone had any dealings or know what the normal lids are like http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Stormtrooper-ANH-stunt-helmet-kit-/220726504562?pt=UK_DVD_Film_TV_Film_Memorabilia_LE&hash=item3364532c72 Many thanks gra
  3. Fantastic mate I was born 77 and never imagined I would go to Lukes homestead. We had a holiday about 4 yrs ago, absolutely crap, but for this. And to be honest this was the only reason we went as my lovely wife knew how much it meant to me. Trouble was it was a 2 day trip, we stopped for lunch, 1 1/2 hrs, I kept asking where the set was, we drove 30 seconds after lunch and I got 15 mins there. ;-( I was the last on the back on the bus he he. The salt plains were beautiful, wish I could see more in my life ;-) You were lucky to visit such a site, I am jealous :-) , I still have some sand in a glass :-) Could I posssibly ask if you have anything from the barge that you would sell, it would be very nice to have a little bit of memrobilia. I have Anakins chair from the Phantom, the one his mum sits on,and some sand but it would be nice t have something if you could spare and of course costs as you ask All the best pics below, I don't normally squint but boy it was very very bright, and hot :-) kindest regards gra
  4. Hi all Total cost £20 Really easy, but you need a loving, patience friend :-) My lovely wife did 2 sitting and has never done this before, nor have I. I think she is a natural There are 2 of me and they were taken 2 hrs apart, how they change. This is the first time my wife and I have ever tried this, so now you see the true Graham :-) Twice Me in carbonite next I think :-) regards Gra
  5. Hi mate Its a nice lid, I would certainly paint, especially as you are going to redo the grey areas. It would not take long to do with spray cans. Unless going for an idealised trooper ( meaning pristine, neat and tidy), and sandys are far from that, I think that painted looks far more authentic. It gets rid of that plastic look and gives a bit of weight to the helmet. And the real ones were painted of course. Keep us posted mate Gra
  6. Hi Si, It's the same helmet mate and I got it like that. I didn't like the colours so decided to change it. I'm not really a footy fan but my bro is, maybe i could do him an Arsenal one for next Xmas. We should hav a thread of us doing the most obscure helmets, but the helmet has to remain unchanged sculpt wise, that would be fun All the best mate and good luck if you do a Villa one, please post
  7. Hi all, sorry for the title, my joke, but this is what I think one of these beauties might look like if we ever get to find another. I declare this now finished, minus some sand when I finally troop. And just for fun me in the lid I have thouroughly enjoyed doing this lid, actually there is more marks and scuffs that you cannot see in the pics so i can see how the film helmets looked different on screen. I tried to add all the little detail I have learnt on these forums like 2 nickle poppers on the strap, 3/4" strap, hdpe colour, red primer inside with tulip padding, hand painted detail and white tips among other things. THANKS to all for the info you give tht enbles people to enjoy doing things like this. Fnally hoe I recieved the helmet Best wishes Graham
  8. It certainly was PM sent Sam and thanks very much to you all. Cheers Smally, hopefully it will still be there. Best wishes Gra
  9. Hi all, I have been an avid memebr on here for a while and i hoped you may be able to answer some questions. I was accepted in the UK garrison with my TK number 7713 a few years back. Due to work ( I am in the services) I have not been able to officially troop, ever :-( I am on the system but I have since changed my email and although I have emailed the staff several times I can't get a reply. I basically want to get access to the forums again as my password reset is going to my old account. I hope to have my TD ready this year, when ready can I still apply for deployment and can I attend events through this froum or do I have to access the UK garrison. As I said i am still there as TK7713 If I need to go through the UK garrison I really need to get in touch with them to enable me to get back on the forum. Many thanks for your help and better I start looking into this now
  10. Hi mate, No problems at all, just worried I missed something. I can always do them darker if someone requested. Best wishes mate Gra
  11. Hi mate, No probs and I am all for making them as best I can. They are painted white inside as I thought that was as the originals, the resin is cream coloured. Should they be black inside or have I missed something, please give any advice you can. It may just be that I needed to add a bit thicker coat of white I know some of the original sandys looked like they had black tips inside but I thought most were white. looking at them this could be the case as I sprayed them white first and masked them for the black, the white may not have coated as opaque at the bottom. If its the white you mean I fully understand what you mean :-)but please advise All the best mate and as I said I am up for as much info as possible I'm looking at sculpting a nipple fo the inside next that can be inserted if wished, should't be too hard to do. Kind regards Graham
  12. many thanks Paul. I have no 5 Humbrol and will be using that. I need to gloss up the stripes a little more,I did add some gloss medium but it didn't really show that much. Maybe a quick blow of gloss through my airbrush but it is going Sandy so that would probably matt it down anyway. many thanks again
  13. I like mate :-), a lot and, it looks bang on to me, lovely shape. Good luck with the ears, looking forward to seeing more. All the best Gra
  14. Thank you Simon, glad you like them :-) Hope to do more at the weekend.
  15. Hi again, hope this thread is not getting too boring :-) Well no matter how hard i looked and tried to convince myself, i couldn't live with the tube stripes as they were. My only option was to sand them back ( luckily I had only done one side) and I repainted the area, this time using decanted spray through my airbrush to save the surrounding area and to feather it in. I noticed that the Sandtrooper stripes appear brighter than normal, it may be the light but I was going for the particular look I could see on screen. I mixed a blue from acrylics this time and used the tube stickers to template the area NOT blue. Once the masking was removed I used a sharp blade to make the lines different shapes as I have seen on original pics. Hopefully you can see the different sizes and a little chipping. Mic tips definatley needed weathering, so masking and a spray of silver. Liquid latex was added following some pics of an original and a spray of black. When the latex was removed I refitted them. Well here I am so far, although may not look like much progress at the minute but getting there. I have a spare green acetate lens and although you cannot see it I have creased one eye, for display it does make it even more battered and original but will be replaced for deployment, hopefully I will get accepted :-) Can I ask 2 questions. 1. Should the mouth, voice moodule be satin or matt black? 2. Should sandys have black mesh with a black inner ring for the mic tips? Tomorrow its down to painting the greay areas. Many thanks for looking and help on the questions appreciated as I want to keep cracking on. Also very many thanks to all for the advice and positive comments :-) Best wishes Gra
  16. Hi again, Well started on the stripes. I initially added decals, it looked completely wrong and out of context with the helmet as they were far too neat. I resorted to paining and if I am honest I am not totally happy with them. The problem is that the paint I used to paint them is white spirit based, and so is the helmet :-( making clean up impossible without lifting the base coat. I should have used acrylics. Anyway here it is, please comment as it really is appreciated and any advice is appreciated. I am hoping that it has the rough look, its harder than I thought intentionally painting rough. I am used to nice clean finishes. Hopefully the sand weathering will bring it all together but a long way to go yet. One question, some sandys have 15 stripes, should I add more, I think I need 13 at the minimium as this is what is on the 2 lids on Starwars helmets.com http://www.starwarshelmets.com/original-ANH-Stunt-Stormtrooper-armor-helmets.htm King regards
  17. Thanks mate, that does mean a lot coming from you :-) Best wishes
  18. Red bubble lenses going FREE to anyone that wants them. First PM Also posted on FISD Oversea all I ask is postage costs UK I will pay
  19. Thanks mate A little bit of weathering before bed, I know I have to paint the rest but that will be for tomorrow/today. Humbrol metalcote, apppliee with a RIZLA papaer, you get really fine lines then. and a few finger prints to make it look used :-) More to go and can't wait to go dirty. Can I still be accepted as a Sandy with the HDPE showing, it is correct but as we know we only see it off scren Best wishes
  20. Hi all, Can I first say a big thanks for all your help. Some of you may have seen this on the dreaded EBAY. I bought it at a really low price and saw there was something good I could do. It is actualy about 1.8mm ( calipler measurements) thick and the strongest helmet I have ever seen, but I may be wrong. Please don't tell me about casting etc, it was really a case of I will give whatever I get a go. Well after lots of fiddling I got this to shape and managed a mix for HDPE. I screwed and screwed, a bit of filler and lots on the ears and eyes. Basicallly it needed a effort on TLC. 1/4 Sea Grey 1 Dark yellow 1 white Clear as needed. All are tamiya and the idea was to get as close HDPE with thanks to all members I could. When done it was very very matt, so I polished first with plastic polish, it really started to look like it was made from some greeny brown mouldy stuff :-) Above top polished rest not Inside was done with red primer and a white over spray. Then I used Latex to mask and sprayed All latex removed and now early stages top end Helmet last on right, with my own tips :-) Its late and I am not close to done yet but would love to here comments before i post next. Weathering next after the final tweaks BTW helmet was £50 :-) , please comment.regards gra
  21. This is great. Can you please tell me where I can get sandy sounds for ipod or Mp3 to convert. Are these speakers in the Uk Many thanks Gra
  22. Thanks to you all, Tonight I am going to mix up a HDPE enamel colour and I have decided to go with enamel spray on top. if all goes well I will post pics when done. Its a rough lid that I got cheap but all being well I should be able to make some good of it. I didn't really know what it was or how good but I got it at a bargain price. This is a tester before my AP sandy. Best wishes and thanks all, I will look up that colour to hopefully get a reasonable match. Kindest regards Graham I see now that is Plasti-kote :-) my local store sells this, was up there today but didn't know :-) Anyway downloaded this from the website so now I have something to match to. WARM GREY SATIN - NEW 2128 Many thanks for the help as this is a great reference Also given this by paul on FISD GREY BEIGE SUPER SATIN 2118- PLASTI-KOTE Both look close
  23. Hi Simon, Thanks mate I must admit I went with halfords as I thought that was the norm, I never realise they used model paints for helmets, and being a modeller it sounds funnier. So I could go acrylic HDPE mix and tamiya white throuch my airbrush, or Acrylic and Enamel white top coat. Out of interest has anyone else sprayed a helmet using Tamiya or humbrol through the airbrush. All the best mate Gra
  24. Hi all, Apologies that I have also posted this in FISD. Can anyone give me a a make of paint for a colour match to HDPE thats available UK. I can mix an enamel or acrylic one and spray thorugh my airbrush, the only concern is that i want to use Halfords appliance white and it may bubble the paint I have added if I do this. My worse case is that i apply enamel white spray on top instead of Halfords but wondered if there was a good match that Halfords can be applied to. Also am I correct in that the white for a HDPE should be more egg shell than really glossy. Many thanks as always gra
