  1. Hi all, Well I think we all Love Karin and I cannot recommend her enough for her contributions. After posting a thread and after karin helping me-a lot, I made my first test of Latex handguards. I did make a few mistakes and Karin has been helping to perfect them better. I decide to try a way of painting my first draft set ( like that ) and this really does work. After travelling Devon for latex paint, I remembered a thing from school, PVA, of sorts. I mixed 4 parts weather proof wood glue to 1 part acrylic white. 4/1. above is after 3 coats I say that as the glue is the MOST important part. I did this in 2 hrs as I wanted to test the flex, but if you can wait for the thin layers to dry fgully youn will get an even better result. the secret is that the glue is flexible, as is acrylic, but you are pushing each for the best qualities. As you can see I flexed and with no problem. I think it will weather in time but will not degrade the latex in anyway and can always be redone. I have not silliconed the guard on the pics, just wanted to show best next to black Hope this helps anyone with guards Thanks again Karin Gra
  2. Shep Paine, absolutely, another top modeller and an idol in the 70s and 80s when I was growing up He built for Monogram and he has a new book out I would like. Don't tell me you know him :-) Would love him to see my work, very influential to all modellers Interested to speak more mate Gra
  3. I think your armour looks superb mate graham
  4. I would say pigments, espcially for soft as it is basically dust. Put on and brush off, there is a link to pigments on here. I must say that the weathering on here is superb with all mediums, so there is no rule. Just try Gra
  5. Thanks mate, that 'MY in the above, looks a bit bigheaded, not meant to be. That is my main passion thats all. he is Royal Marine Light Infantry based on Cpl Prettyjohn, one of the RMs VC winners in the Crimea. As an RM, its my little way of keeping history alive, and easier to show people than giving them a book. Funny thing is, they ask questions when they see my figs, I say, well READ A BOOK he he It got a silver 2 years ago at Euro Militaire, that is probably the world recognised competition but I know there are many in the US and the top modellers from US travel across. Bill Horan is probably the nuts and was kind enough to email me a few years back with very contructive comments, he got another gold that year but he is perfection in my eyes. I am still perfecting the gold :-) ( 2 silvers, 2 bronzes, I can't be far off :-)) Thanks again, and please, give the pigments a go gra
  6. Hi I have not stared weathering yet but as a Military Modeller this name is well known to me. the pigments are the finest ground and can be sprayed, there is also a fixer that can be sprayed to adhere them. http://migproductionswebshop.com/index.php?cPath=22&osCsid=ae4f7359d62dac594811ab1dc7c81d57 I will be using these when I start There are also oils available and as a figure painter i can say the pigment is perfect http://migproductionswebshop.com/index.php?cPath=25_38 Here is a link to some of the pigments, available various over the world) and Migs own website, just have a look at some amazing weathering :-)and tutorials http://www.migproductionsforums.com/phpBB3/index.php?sid=828671830bd9547a863ff88246c2147d And one of MY figures, scratchbuilt, my other hobby painted, in oils, sculpted in Miliput 1/32 Mig is worth a look big time
  7. Would love to know this, it has been the main reason I have never started mine, however I have just bought the correct trays from Crashman, can't wiat. It would be ironic if they didnt as that was holding me back, but never mind. My mum is 64 and I am sure we had them in the greenhouse, or my mum is, when I was a child. They were plant trays I believe. My mum has spoken to EVERY older lady she knows just in case some are in old sheds etc, and I bet they are. I am uk and have collected most of the accurate bits- over 10 years I have a box of 40 burger stacks and the original tupperware box and radar, jug lid x2. I made a mould ages ago and should find it really Boy scout frame and UK cyphon, bet I could have started building ages ago if ribs not needed, but I think they did all have the ribs. best wishes Graham I think it will be quite nice to have some of the original bits on my pack, but I would actually prefer the nice clean kit, strange how we all are and what we prefer :-) Cleaning out the shed this weekend and will post some pics.
  8. Sorry for the change of a previous thread that I know is going on. I made an offer on this ugly thing, drawn to my attention by both FISD and MEPD, and looks like I think he will take it, he is making the money on the postage and has realised I think. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&&item=150547241064&ssPageName=ADME:B:BOC:GB:1120 the reason I say is, the offer link is closed. Oh well, i went for .99 but it will cost me a few quid to get it here, UK. So now I need to link in my tips and a few goodies, and the helmet hehe, decide a suitable competition and the winner will get the lot. What do you think?. Well, looking at it like that, I actually want it, wonder how many hands this thing can be in by the end of 2011, especially if we add it to some winning goodies each time? there could be some nice budlles and it could end up travelling the world, think the provison should be the winner starts next comp with lid and extras as decided. if i win it I will start it off. best wishes gra

  10. Joe R and Andy Having looked at this next to my Sandy can you plase PM me Cheers guys Just considering should I paint or not as this was one of the first tests, I lke it the off colour, if I paint will I get one like this ever again :-) Cheers to all gra gra
  11. Hi all Got this great lid today from Andy ( and Joe-R) I was tempted to leave as is, as I love the abs colour, looks like it has aged. But, after seeing the thread from Keith, I decided to go all the way. It is a fab lid, having owned somehing like 20 normal :-) it is a refreshing change, and on its own looks quite pleasing to the eye. It's only when you put it next to a normal lid you see the difference, and it is that I love I started by removing the rivets, ussng a small drill and adding screws, sorry no pics. The frown and ears will be stripped with alcohol and the decals will be saved on plastic card, I will glue them on next with a little help from the hair dryer. RED IS CHERRY COLA BOTTLE UNDER EYES They are great quality, just hard fitting to a wonky helmet, if you know the ROTJ lids :-) I did have a small dip in the left side temple, accurate to many lids I am sure but I wanted to go pleasing to the eye. I very very carefully heated over a stove and pushed it out a little more. I heated on gas, very very gradually and now that is ok. The ears will be fited better and I will paint as Keith did, I have done that on my Vaders and I love that bit. Paint, sand, polish.an easy night in front of the TV There is a shallow left mic area but I think I can get away with that, or I do have something up my sleeve to make it better at worse. In all A GREAT LID, ANDY IS A DIAMOND as is Joe R Will keep you posted Now I DO love ROTJ This is the lid next to my recently finished Sandy ( the red and yellow one), by the same maker. 2 GREAT LIDS :-) Gra
  12. Thanks mate Wonder if someone would take a couple of pairs of my tips for a trade :-) Never know unless you ask All the best mate Gra
  13. Thanks all Can I get the buttons from someone or do I have to make them. Trooper bits kindly did me the ab and buttons. The belt ones just so happened to be on the strip, I suspected the TK ones were wrong for Sandy. As I know there are no specific Sandy kits I need to source some BIG buttons, any help is appreciated. It's basically so I can use it as a TK until I have all the sandy bits, just need to finish the pack Then my TM will be my TK :-) Thank you again Gra
  14. Hi all, One will be my Sandy, the other normal TK Please can you advise on the most accurate to keep as Sandy, the other will not matter so much as it will be covered with the buttons, but obviously I want the Sasndy one to be accurate as there is nothing going top Also, do I need to add big buttons to the right ( as you look) strip, i have the usual TK stip but I see on here the buttons appear bigger. Many thanks best wishes graham
  15. Great. But only if you were born before 1999. If there are any 12 year old troopers ( or younger) out there it won't work. Just kidding though, its great and I can baffle me mates with my sudden expertise at maths. What year were they born and instanly tell them their age ( just deduct from 111) Brilliant
  16. And I sure learnt that the hard way, hence my post. Still does not excuse his lies though, last one, Yeah right.! I would have accepted the cost had it been true. Cheers Joe, I wll be getting one of yours mate regards Gra
  17. John has been brilliant, really hope I get to meet him sometime. Royal Marines mate. I joined at 16 and have done 23 yrs so finish in 12 months, they don't count boys time- from age of 18. The new lot only get to serve 18 yrs to pension and that may be changing, governments way of cutting back I suppose, well I know. Got to Sgt Maj ( I am Drum Major, CSM) and CSgt Pension so happy, seems I just like dressing up. I am based at Lympstone and Cath and I live in Exmouth, although neither of us are from here. It's a nice place, we bought our house 12 yrs ago and so it seems we are destined to stay West Country Out for a beer in Topsham tonight, CIDER he he One of my best mates is from Blaby (sorry if that is spelt wrong)
  18. Hi mate, This is my first ROM, I asked a couple of weeks ago to be put on the list and as luck would have it I was close to a run. As soon as he emailed me my wallet was out , I went for the Pro Thanks for your comments, you made me feel better, I think I will have more fun making my own BP anyway. I PM'd Crashman last night as I can just stretch to some boxes ( if he will do me some) so I am hopefully not far off, I am looking forward to making the radio anyway, pegs and all so hopefully I am not too far behind Best wishes gra
  19. Cheers mate Adding them to my first post Andy has been a diamond also, really helped me out on a few things, please say hello from me when you see him next Guess what I am buying with my pension money ( ) But it will be next year, will that be ok, unless I can jig a few things first. All the best mate Gra

  21. Hi all Well I think you all know I am a very very close Sandy To be honest I could go now but I want to have the fun of having all before I start weathering. I am a figure painter see and painting is really the thing I love Well I had the cahnce to either get my Pack or Rom FX pro, so sorry to all, I went for the ROM and I will have it in 3 weeks. The hards things is, over the last 6 years i actually have all the proper stuff, original tupperware lids and lunch box, Burger stack, boy scout frame, UK cystern etc What I would really also like to ask, should I get a kit, as so many seem to do, or should I keep going with what I have collected. I think you all know my old suit in the pic, that will be my Sandy, I have 2 pauldrons, cnvas belt the lot, its just the 1/2 accurate pack that is stopping me. My TM is still untouched in the attic which will be my new TK when I go dirty Sorry if got off topic, just happy about the ROM. Maybe I just need some trays, any advise appreciated I went for Where is your idetification Move along and Imperial as the 3 xtra on my pro ROM a good choice I think, now have to master the US accent as in Tattoine Gras
  22. Hi all, I know some of us work on both sides, so although an old post I hoped this may be of use. http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?showtopic=10140&st=0&p=127994&fromsearch=1entry127994 I struggled big time with ear fitting, and although I love building and painting, ears are my worse nightmare. The advice from the guys in the link above helped me so much, if you are new ( as me) to building follow this and you will not go far wrong.I know this helmet I am showing is not peoples favourtes, I asked for it completely untrimmed, but I got it as a Xmas present and I like it. Although still not perfect or as I would like, I could have done worse with the ears if it had not been for the tips given on that link, and any errors were certainly my own. The point of bringing the ears forward was one of the biggest helps. I think I speant 4 hrs + on the ears alone with all manner of files etc ;-) Truth be known I have my untouched TM full , and I am so scared to even touch it, as that is my perfect display piece, I am learning on things i feel comfortable with, and I also like. Thanks again, and that link is definately one for the archives. Yet again thanks to all regards graham
  23. Please look at the posts of this member. Orenceunrerry I beleive he is a plant to promote ipads and only that. No introduction or mention of Trooping or SW, just ipads in his total 2 poats. I have reported him as I think it is worth a look. A memeber with interest would at least show that Regards
