  2. If Tonys cronies get their way we wont be able to purchase deacs here in the UK soon Supposedly to cut down on gun crime although im sure most criminals dont worry too much about having a legal gun especially one thats been made safe
  3. heres the paint manufacturers site i was talking about http://www.flagfinishes.co.uk/product_ind.htm Black magic is a tough multi-purpose black coating. It gives a classic looking satin finish and there’s no need to prime! Black Magic is a water-based, low odour, quick drying and environmentally friendly product. Black magic is very tough and flexible and it has a built in rust converter making it ideal for metals but great on plastics and glass too
  4. I've not done it with machined parts Ward but when i was a kid my old man used to work in an engineering place i remember him doing this with some old combat knives i got of. The finish is really nice on perfectly smooth surfaces. Unlike paint it will highlight rather than hide any small imperfections or scratches though. I was flicking through the TV channels a few weeks ago and one of the shopping channels were showing this paint which i think could be ideal it was designed for painting on metal had a really nice satin sheen to it and built in rust inhibitor it was also really flexible they had a sheet of acetate they had painted with it that they were rolling up and crumpling without it cracking. I'm not sure if it can be used to spray with though all the applications they used it on they painted with a brush although they did say it was water based so i guess it could be thinned down for spraying. I cant remember the manufacturer it was called black magic and came in a red and white pot i've been trying to find it online but no luck as yet but if i do find it i'll post the details up here

  13. Fantastic Zac I really want a set of this armour myself although im a little worried about those forearms im a skinny begger aswell. Forever seeing threads of people needing to shim parts i have the opposite problem i have to trim like crazy Awsome suit though you must be really pleased
  14. Surely there are no truly accurate suits available anywhere all the ones from movie suits are reworked from ROTJ back to ANH arent they ? they might be slight differences but they are still there. Pauls suit is fantastic from what i have seen it looks really good but it is an artists interpretation not a direct reproduction. In my mind neither can be described as truly accurate in the literal sense of the word. The thing to ask yourself is do you want a suit that has some lineage to an original movie suit but lacks some features or do you want an artist sculpted suit which includes features that were present on the ANH suits but arent seen on any previously available suit ? From a collecting point of view the former would probably be first choice due to provenance. From a costuming point of view the latter is a good choice i think because of its overall look and inclusion of those features.
  15. Well the time in question when i wrote to the staff about my account not being approved i pointed out that i was a member of all these forums yet still got no reply Replica prop board The Prop den The propzone The 99th imperial garrison Knights of the empire Omega wing Blaster builders club After getting no reply from them i asked about and was told by people that the reason i wasnt verified was most probably because i was using a free email domain I have a private email now though got my account approved tonight hadn't realised registrations were open again so thanks for the heads up Daetrin
  16. I had that problem too even though i pay for AOL i cant register with it because AOL also do free email. I even emailed the staff there to ask about this i didn't even get a response.
  17. Yep i can see that its an attempt to recreate the originals but like i say once painted you won't know what material it's made from. I just don't see that it can be a true reproduction of the original. People have already pointed out the difference between the material used and the material on the original for the face and cap/back and the difference in material used on the ears. Has anyone ever confirmed exactly what paint was used back in 76 ? I'ts a damned nice replica for sure but not a true reproduction. I'm no expert on these things is HDPE not readily available these days or something ? Why hasn't anyone done this before ?
  18. I would but im not a member so i'll say my piece here It's a great looking helmet maybe its just me but i don't see the point of using HDPE unless you are going to do a bashed up aged look with the HDPE showing through. Surely once painted HDPE would look no different to painted ABS or HIPS ?
