fletchimo Posted August 17, 2025 Posted August 17, 2025 Hi all, I'm currently building a type 3 backpack and I have a question for the experienced builders here. I'm wondering how folks connect their seed trays to one another? I'm under the impression to external screws are allowed, therefore one bolt in each corner is out. I've seen plenty of tutorials on other aspects of the backpack, however, this is the main part I'm unsure of. I don't want to use glue on its own as I fear it wouldn't be strong enough, plus if I want to disassemble for repairs etc, this makes it much more complicate. I've seen people use an internal aluminium frame to connect the pair (Mikel Brierly's YouTube assembly video primarily). I've not got the kit (or know how) to assemble such a frame. Any advice or directions would be greatly appreciated. Quote
Vf2112 Posted August 17, 2025 Posted August 17, 2025 Hey Fletchimo If your asking how to attach to frame I just use cable ties If you mean putting the two halves together I'm pretty sure everyone uses the black tape like on screen. Hope that helps Quote
fletchimo Posted August 18, 2025 Author Posted August 18, 2025 Hi there! Thanks for the advice. I’m referring how to connect the actual trays together, I’ll use a few bolts to connect the bottom tray to the frame. My main concern with tape is that it might not be sturdy enough over time. I’ve heard glue by itself should be okay. I just want to avoid the thing falling apart while trooping. Im thinking about taking a belt and braces approach. Quote
Vf2112 Posted August 18, 2025 Posted August 18, 2025 Yeah I understand that could worry you Mine has held together with tape for over 12 yrs now no problems but I guess you can glue them or something You wouldnt be able to go for higher levels of standard with the pack that way though Taped and in some cases askew is screen accurate Let us know what you go with Quote
fletchimo Posted August 18, 2025 Author Posted August 18, 2025 That’s good to know! I’ll give it a go with some tape. What sort did you use? A black sort of duct tape? I guess the advantage of tape as well is that if needed you can take the trays apart. I’ve got some electrical tape for the Brexton box, but I’m guessing you’d something a bit stronger to hold the trays together? Quote
Vf2112 Posted August 18, 2025 Posted August 18, 2025 I was about to say I used electrical tape but stil going strong Quote
