T-21 Strap

Recommended Posts

I've been looking for a better strap. The screen-used strap seems to have a sort of piping on the edges, but doesn't look to be leather.

I've had my eyes open and today I found this.

What do you think?

It has a nice weight to it. It's a 1.5" wide belt that I found at American Eagle Outfitters. Only issue is that the longest size has about 48" of usable length, so you would need to strategically connect 2 of them at one of the loops or something.

There is also this one online with D-rings but it has a silk-screen logo and I'm not sure how wide it is.

I also saw a pair of Arizona cargo shorts on sale at JC-Pennys today that have the same belt on them (slightly lighter tan and a bit lighter weight)... Almost the same price as just the belt from AE. Free shorts or free belt depending on how you look at it, but you still need two of them.

Is 1.5" not too wide for the strap? Doesn't look that wide in the film? I need something a bit more robust for mine, not sure where to look first....... And is there a belt big enough to be a good length for the strap? Anyone seen anything in Militaria stores?

Seems the correct width is 1" wide and the fixtures on the handle seem to be set up for this kinds of width too on the one I worked on.. if I come across any on my travels I will share of course. I'm on the look out now also for the one I built.

Here it is on the Lee-enfield rifle. It's not long enough for a T-21 though, how did they get such a long strap? It would be hard to sew a few straps together because of the rounded edges, so where did they get their extra long strap from?

Here is a proper Lewis gun, with strap fittings - so WHERE ARE THE STRAPS?? Where can I find one, argh get me a time machine.....

That's close to what I was going to do. can you get closer in the pic of the D ring? The pictures I have (crappy as they are) don't look like a D ring

EDIT: can't type

It could be, but to me the ring on the muzzle end looks more curved. If you look at the strap, there is a curved highlight right at the point that it clears the ring. It probably was something that came on the strap. Either ring would do the trick though.

I think that the other two rings are probably similar if not identical to the ones shown on that lee-enfield strap. My straps are about 41"-42" each set up this way, including the parts of the strap that are folded over.

Very well spotted I thought about a D ring on the nozzle but I thought that it'd just come loose all the time. How about a double D ring, like you would have a belt fastening, then it would grip the strap better....but then it depends on the thickness of the strap.....

They are indeed British weapon slings. The style was used for many differnt British military guns. They are canvas and come is shades of tan and green. The hardware is the same on both ends. It is an open metal loop that hooks around either side of the strap. When the strap is wedged into the open metal loop it is very snug.

From screen caps you can see they strung two straps together for the Lewis.

Steven

I forgot to add that the strap width is about 1.25 inches

That picture that you posted looks EXACTLY like what I've been able to make out on screen... With that said, I've just been searching that website for the last hour or so trying to find where they have that item for sale or at least what it's called. Any help would be much appreciated as I'd like to purchase two of them. Thanks in advance!

Hey,

I don't know anything about that other website link, I just googled it for the pic.

Here is a site with info on those types of slings:

http://www.rollanet.org/~stacyw/british ... w_page.htm

Here are a few slings offered at e-gunparts, a US company:

For those in the UK or canada you should be able to find these at surplus outlets?

Good luck, Steven
