cool photo of Davin

Jesse TK-4702 posted this on FISD (Jesse hope you don't mind me posting this here).

http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?showtopic=12520&view=findpost&p=153176

I knew that TD looked familiar, but I hadn't seen a photo of him this dirty before. I'm pretty sure he's Davin Felth (he's the TD that says "Look Sir, droids!") The pauldron was the first clue.

I did this quick comparison with Jesse's photo above, and compared it with the LFL photos that were posted a while back (I rotated it and scaled it to match the same angle and size), and did a black and white colorized one in between. It's our friend, Davin.

Look at the shape of the eye holes, the brow, the frown, the vocoder shape, and the dirt. It's nice to see an old friend.

Poll: What Bucket & Armor Do You Own?

Based on this excellent observation and poll by "Daetrin" over on the FISD, and by his suggestion to do one here, I thought I'd do just that.

Basically we don't believe the statement that "90% of the Legion wears FX" is true anymore... at all. And with detachments like the FISD and MEPD getting rid of FX buckets as a consideration for elite status — you can't get or keep the MEPD's elite "deployed" status with an FX anymore in case you didn't know — we think the number is going down and down.

I have to wonder the same thing Daetrin wonderes, and I quote...

Daetrin said:

What will the eBay sellers of recast FX armor say now? It's worn by 50% of the Legion? Not bad when you think about it but a far, far cry from the 90% we so often hear.

For those who are in the Legion you can view the same poll on the Legion boards here.

I won't be surprised if the MEPD has the lowest percentage of FX buckets... it would just make sense number wise.

So vote away!

On a planet with two moons, in a far and distant galaxy, WoodChuck toils away in the Hole-In-The-Walla workshop.
There is ample space out front for landing space craft, and the workshop is locatd within a cave in the shadow of one of the planets moons. "Whir-r-r-r-r, Beep Beep, Click!" is the only sound heard as both battle droids focused on the movement just outside the entrance to the workshop. " PSTTTTTT, Zing," and a white sreak hit the target and a limp body mass transforms, then dies on the doorstep.

"Yes, it's a changling, alrght. Looks like it tried to be me," Woodchuck mentioned, while commanding one of the battle droids to dispose of the carcass. "I knew they were attempting to get the templates to my new rifle, but this is extreme."

"Safe to enter?" came the sound of a familiar voice. In an instant, four Republic Commandos were seen trying to enter, their mass completly blocking the small opening. "Yes, please come in, have some java juice, it's on the house." Woodchuck allowed the remaining battle droid to monitor and stand by for further orders. "Roger roger", came the reply.

"Stupid battle droids," muttered one fo the RC's. "We need to order new DC-17's. The entire garrison is going to be calling on you, and we just wanted you to have a head's up. some want the sniper attachment, some the Anit-armor. We all want the upgrades you include with each new version." Woodchuck began taking notes on his telepad, as the Squad boss continued. That RC pistol you make is a keeper, for sure. some of the guys are going to want to see that one."
"I saw Warbat use that new DC-15 HE ARF sniper rifle from Blastech to take out three driodreka's, really packs a punch," Sev added to the conversation.
"That's why the changling was here, tried to steal the master templates," Woodchuck said.

"Anyone messing with The Woodchuck has to answer to us, for sure. Fixer yelled.

"Thanks troopers, but I can take care of myself," Woodchuck chuckled. "Now where were we...............

Woodchuck here. It's time to order supplies for the next DC-17 and RC pistols run.

This is an interest only list. As of this date, 8/23, I have 7 troopers on a reserve list from the last run.
I have sent PM's to all of you. if anyone else is interested, PM me to get on the list. I will start the build in
10 -14 days. Again, this is Interest only, but do not PM me unless you are able to send full payment
when the items are ready to ship. These are hand-made, one at a time from wood and PVC.

And tomorrow I start college. But not before I start me TD project...Building a PVC MG-15, and a buying a resin upgrade kit for one of my Hasbro blasters.

Make your own "duct tape mannequin"

I'm kind of shocked I didn't make one of these before, these are so awesome! I would love to make one for every costume I own!

A duct tape mannequin is a great way to:

- create a form that is a very close replication of your body shape
- awesome way to display your armor
- a great way to test sizing for parts, armor mods, etc.

This is nothing super new, people have made duct tape mannequins for years. They started off in the seamstress / dress making hobby (people would use duct tape to create a torso dress form for tailoring their own outfits), and there's been many Legion members who have made these for their costumes. It's not that hard, it just takes time and some simple materials.

Materials:

2 large rolls of duct tape (don't get the foil kind, just the regular silver kind
PVC pipe (I used 3/4" pipe)
1 PVC cross connector
4 PVC "T" junctions
4 PVC 90 degree elbows
PVC cement
fiberfill / foam / pillow stuffing
Scissors with round tips
Old long sleeve top, pants (sweats will do) and socks
A friend to help you

1. Get dressed in your old clothes. They should be somewhat thin / not too bulky

2. Go to the bathroom before proceeding (important!)

3. Stand in whatever pose you want. I chose to keep it neutral. If you want to bend the elbows for shooting / blaster poses, it's possible - just keep in mind it may be harder to dress the mannequin. Also, you (as the model) will get hot. Try not to move too much, and don't do this outside / in the sun.

4. Have your friend / helper start wrapping you in duct tape! Star from the bottom and work up. Avoid wrapping the tape "off the roll" if you do this, the tape will be very tight / uncomfortable and the mannequin will be smaller than you. Tear off sections of tape about 12" long and make sure to overlap half the previous strip as you work up.
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4136/4889631537_0a46d750a4.jpg

I chose to wrap the bottoms of my heels so that I can insert the mannequins legs into the boots. This is why you need to wear socks. Don't bother making the feet, it won't likely stand on it's own anyways. You can add a post / stand for it later, or simply lean it against a wall.

5. Continue wrapping the upper body. I found that I was slouching / leaning forward, so try to stand straight. Make sure to press the tape down evenly and smooth it out.
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4097/4889631741_300f649235.jpg

6. Make sure that the tape overlaps all the way around the back. I'm bringing sexy back! Yeah!
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4122/4889632461_59a49d04a9.jpg

7. After you have wrapped one layer of tape, it should be good to cut the tape and extract your self. If you're bigger / taller, I would recommend 2 layers of tape - again, overlap the seams.
Use scissors with round tips, or if you have some - medical safety scissors also work great (the ones for cutting bandages off patients). Cut a vertical seam down the back, across the back of both arms, and down the back of the legs. You should be able to step out easily.

Here's my "body wrap" laid out on the floor. I have laid the skeleton / support frame on it.
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4074/4889633355_99a53bf0f4.jpg

8. Go get a drink of water to rehydrate.

9. Make your skeleton support. I used 3/4" PVC pipe. Copy the joints here or make your own. Use your own body as a guide for how long each should be. Notice that I bent the legs of the skeleton outwards to match the pose I was in. I didn't bother making bones / supports for the arms, as I wanted my arms to lay at the sides anyways, and it's just extra weight. Use PVC glue to attach each section of pipe.

10. Tape over the seams starting at the feet, and do about 12"-16" at a time. Tape one section, then stuff it with the fiberfill / foam, etc. You can buy it at fabric stores and even Walmart, it's used for stuffing pillows and such (my wife and I joked about how we should walk into one of those "Build a Bear" shops with my empty mannequin and say "I need this stuffed".

Here's mine after stuffing. I threw some old worn out bike shorts on it since I want the under suit areas to show through as black (*TIP: simply cover the elbow, armpit, and knee areas with black gaffer tape or hockey tape! It will look like an undersuit without the cost!

11. Dress your new action figure! Here's a few pics of my TK test fitted on the mannequin.

Many thanks to my wife for helping me out for a few hours. She thought this was pretty funny, but said it was very cool and turned out great!

I love the work that Im seeing from everyone and I would like to extend this offer to you....you can sell your build or items on the page. There is a marketplace now set up so things can be purchased directly from the site. Anyone that is interested....Let me know....

Also, if you know someone that is willing to work with us and is a "friend" of the legion that makes a product or offers a service legion related. Please PM me with that information because i have an opportunity for them as well

Museum Replica TK

There's a great thread about this over on the FISD, but for all of you who never leave the sand, I thought I'd start one here too.

Museum Replicas has revealed their stormtrooper armor.

http://td8541.imperial-web.com/uploads/museum_replicas_tk_01.jpg

http://td8541.imperial-web.com/uploads/museum_replicas_tk_02.jpg

http://td8541.imperial-web.com/uploads/museum_replicas_tk_03.jpg

My initial thoughts...

This picture really makes me say yuck!

I mean it's better than Rubies (which everyone has said... and isn't hard to do...) but I agree with what Paul said on the FISD, this should be SO much better.

It looks soft and far too thick.
It also doesn't have a lot of the details that make a TK look like a TK (imho)... like the finishing strips. They're all molded together.

Yeah... disappointed.
The belt is ridiculous... holster is on the wrong side... and the helmet looks really badly assembled.

The thing is, it's probably 501st acceptable.
I mean I do think it's that good.

I just don't think it should be something people buy... because I want people to have the best; and I fear it will be $3,000.

So... what do you all think?

Its Coming.....Soon To Be 100% Live!

DirtyBoySquad.com Is in the process of being upgraded and just about ready for your viewing pleasure....lol

Anyway, Thanks To Noel and his amazing website building ability it is almost complete.

The immediate goal of the site is to allow people to come by and check out whats in the works. My next step would be to set up the site as a place that you can buy your military style gear as well as whatever props and custom builds go up there. The military part will be so you guys can get what you want at cost....how it will work is once the site is established, i can get vendors to sell to me at wholesale. When that happens and we decide to do a "Run" of merchandise....we wont have to pay retail on the stuff....just whatever cost is. Plus, Im looking to establish a relationship with a screen printing company that in exchange for super low pricing, they will be able to have a link to the additional items they sell

BTW....if you want your own site.....PM Nol and Im sure once he has finished up with DBS.com he will be happy to work something out with you

MEPD Header Artwork "Contest"

Due to this thread started by Dirty Boy I've learned we have some great artists here at the MEPD... so, I thought I'd put you all to work.

If this turns out well I will make the "header image" of the MEPD a random image with a catalog of images to choose from. Those images will be made by you, our users.

Here are the "rules"...

Obviously nothing vulgar or inappropriate...

The image must fit the guidelines listed here in width, height, logo placement, etc.

The artwork must be originally done by you. No photographs — although altered photos of yourself will be considered.

Sandtroopers must be the focus of the image... though how you portray them, or what else is in the image is up to you.

The final decision of which pieces are chose are up to the command staff.

Simply upload your image or post a link to it here when you're done. Images will be added if they are deemed "good enough" by command staff. We are not out to hurt anyone's feelings by saying, "Your artwork isn't any good," but there is a chance if you submit something it will not be put into the rotation... so DO NOT submit anything if your feelings are hurt easily.

You can download the CS4 compatible PSD here.

Here is the Legion fonts and logo... though using the 501st logo is not required the fonts are recommended.

Here is the MEPD logo in EPS form...
...and as a PDF.

The final images should follow these guidelines.
http://mepd.net/images/logo_template.gif

Have fun!

Trying to get a MG15 home

I bought a beauty of a MG15 off Slavefire last year, but due to UK customs and replica firearms I have not been able to ship back so far. There is an exception in the law that anyone who troops for a known costuming group that works for charity ( like the UK Garrison ) , they can import plastic replicas. Slavefire recommended that if anyone is coming over to Comic Con from the UK with this charitable status then he could give it to them to bring back. This is only if the person can do it legally though. As a thank you for bringing it back I am happy to loan it to them for 6 months for trooping. This is a bit short notice I know, but I hoping someone might help.
I thought I would try MEPD first as it is more related to TD's.

If this doesn't work out would anyone be happy to ship this out to another European destination from the US for me?
I'm also open to any suggestions, except the ones where they think I should sell the MG15 to them
Please PM if you can help
