torso_boy
Hey all, I'm new here to Sandtrooper.net. The name's David, and I'm in your DL's garrison, Southern Outpost (AL, TN, MS, KY). I'm currently a Scout Trooper in the 501st, TB-1184, but my next uniform will be a Sandtrooper. Because I love to actually build the armor just as much as I like to wear it, I thought I'd make this to save some time for me later on down the road. I'm currently finished with the construction phase, and tonight I'll be breaking it down for painting. I've seen several options for shoulder straps, but what seems to be the best way? I've seen people cross it over their chest under the armor, plain backpack style, and even some highly elaborate, time-consuming methods, and they all appear to work the same. Which works best for y'all and why?
TD671
I just run a chest strap sewn to each backpack strap. It clips together under my chest plate & makes the backpack fit nice & securely: Don't get too confused about my wide voice amp straps appearing on my chest as well. SethB6025
I cross the straps over my chest. What's shown above works as well. Ultimately, you want to prevent the straps from slipping off your shoulders.
Jack_bauer
pack is looking good. Just for fun i wish you had a pic of you wearing it unpainted.
abntroop
LOL yeah, would like to see it on him unpainted too. seriously though, looks awesome dude. I look forward to seein it painted and weathered.
torso_boy
Ask and ye shall receive! Since I don't have my armor yet, I'm leaving the strap configuration like this for the moment. It seems to work alright, I even hopped around a bit to simulate some heavier-duty trooping, and it was still sturdy. However, as I get my armor put together, the straps will allow me to try a variety of things, so I may not even use the cross-style.
torso_boy
The only piece now is the part from the detonator from the armor, and I don't have the armor yet. Aside from that and the weathering, it's done.
abntroop
amazing what some paint does, that looks friggin awesome dude! one step closer! now weather it!!
torso_boy
I'll be weathering it when I weather the armor to get a nice consistent look. But until then, I have to find some armor! T_T

Jack_bauer
It's a good start. PLEASE tell me when you troop you won't be wearing that silly "Quick release" button with the little arrow you are wearing in the pic.
torso_boy
Thats actually not a button. It's a note I tagged on there in photoshop to help show what the straps were.

SethB6025
Looks like an old tupperware bowl lid.
bamatrooper
Nice work Dave! From my experience, keep the pack light as possible!! It may be fine now, but after 4 hours in armor where you can't move your torso.. those lower back muscles will start screaming!!!
hpdblues
Sorry David, I'm a little tardy in my postings. Welcome to the dirt-side of the galaxy! And you did a great job on your backpack...it's beautiful! What type of armor are you planning on building? Take care. Guns
