Helmet question.

Hallo gang.

I got a question for you here.

I got a lovely bumpy back cap TE2 helmet.

In ANH you see the helmets, stunt/hero etc.

But how many of them was bumpy back cap ones.

Was they all smooth back cap ones in ANH ?.

Or was there also these bumpy back cap ones in ANH ?.

Maybe they was all smooth back cap, just like the face mask.

And over the years (around 30 years), "they" become bumpy back cap ones or what over age.

Can some body help me out here...

What is the most ANH accurate look, bumpy back cap.

Whit smooth face mask and ears.

Or is the most ANH accurate helmet, a smooth back cap, face mask, ears.

Some of the ANH sand troopers look all smooth to me, like e.g move a long.

But i´m not sure at all.

Who got the knowledge for this question.

Here is a few pictures of my TE2 helmet.

Enjoy.

Rolf

I really love the bumpy back cap, looks like the real thing.

Old and rusty.

But i like to now, if the smooth version is accurate.

Peace out gang

Actually, all the stunts had bumpy back/caps.

Just different degree of sharpness.

It is sometimes difficult to capture the bumps/texture in photos regardless, but ESPECIALLY when the pull was soft.

Matt is wrong once again.

I only posted this because this is how inaccurate info spreads.

Also, another thing to note because I keep coming across more and more people who don't know.

This is not a slam against anyone, just a clarification.

The TE2 back/cap has been so damaged to the point that in my opinion is not considered authentic. A lot of restoration went into making it usable. Chunks were missing from all over the surface, some of which can still be seen in some of the pulls.

There's no way to re-sculpt the authentic surface nuances back into the mold regardless of how talented the sculptor is.

Copy.

I´m no super hero of anh knowledge .

But many of the stunt ones look very smooth back cap to me.

Some of them look all smooth BC, only the sloppy paint job makes the drops/dots on it.

Here you go.

Move a long, and stop that ship.

And a few more...

In the end, a few hero shots.

All smooth, like we know.

Trust me, I have fantastic shots of every single one of those helmets you posted and clearly the bumps/texture is there.

You can even see it in some of the ones you posted.

Keep in mind that there is also the thickness of paint to consider which would also help mask some of the surface detail.

Copy that GINO.

One of the shots where i can see it good, is on the Brian R.

Thanks for you reply on this.

So what about the smooth cap that Matt showed?

I think it was grey HDPE too, not really sure but he did post a pic somewhere.

There was no smooth cap.

He showed a pic of the Look sir Droids helmet, and sure enough, other pics I have of it in the archives show it has the bumps/texture as well.

I think that Brandons helmet is now in the UK along with his ROTJ. I plan on visiting them soon

O RLY?

I always found it odd that the original helmet molds were bumpy like that. From the perspective of vac-forming, that texture did nothing but make mold extraction more difficult.

I was told by someone that casted a screen used helmet, that the bumps were on the inside of the helmet and came threw when casted. I dont see evidence of this on the real helmets in any pics other than paint drips on the outside. since i havent ever held one and felt the inside who knows, but it makes sense if the outside was cast these paint bumps would be present. I agree with Mike that removing a pull with such texture on the mold must be a challange.

The bumps/texture is definitely on the inside of the helmet (which is where the molds were taken from) and shows through on the outside.

The bumps/texture is in the exact same spots on every helmet.

Copy that.

So far, so good.

But i was thinking...

Why is it only then the back cap, there is bumpy.

Why is the face mask, and ears not bumpy then too?.

Cheers gang

Because there are very specific trooper people who I don't want to know.

The only way to ensure that is to not tell anyone.

Copy that.

I remember the 14 pages long armor talk on whitearmor
