Okay my fellow dirty dudes, I´m doing it again.

I like the docking bay captain V2 (Tuck and Roll) I emulated but I was always really into the Move Along trooper since this is the iconic Sandtrooper I can remember from my first Star Wars experience as a kid.

So the trooper I am emulating is the version with the Spanish pouch on the right hip/black gaffer tape on view on the right shoulder and the two right hand guards:

BehindtheScenes-Checkpoint02-2_zps13736d

Please keep in mind that I will also use some reference pics showing the other version but the weathering stays the same.

Now I first want to get done with all the neccessary 360 and detail pictures, before I get to the really interesting stuff which is the comparison pics.

I have already noticed a few bits and pieces where I see room for improvement but I am going to post these first pics anyhow as it also helps me to really identify the flaws.

So here I go (again);)

I will start with my helmet.

When the pictures were taken yesterday, it was quite dark outside which makes many characteristic weathering details appear a little too dark in these pictures.

As mentioned in my first post, there are some details I still want to improve, so I´m hoping for some nice and sunny weather.

Cheers mates

Finally I was able to have some pictures taken outside in the sun (this was important to me as the weathering looks really different in different lighting conditions:

Then my friends and I had some fun trying to recreate the reference pics:sweat:

I´ll always show the reference pic first, followed by a picture of myself and finally a side-by-side comparison

Hi Urs,

thank you for your interest to get a second SWAT-Trooper.

Please allow me some time to study the pictures. The Move along Trooper is very challenging and best documented. I will start the review as soon as possible!

Regards bigwam

Urs, Your helmet and the weathering is great! But there are two points, i noticed:

- i miss a scratch in the near of the crack

**Additional Comments**

Pouches:

- the little bag from the shoulder pouch hangs to much. Please sew something on.

- the spanish pouch: Please make sure that the lid must be closed. He gets up!

- the spanish pouch: hangs a little too far behind

Weathering:

- The bright spot where the belt has slipped. With you it is very straight, in the movie a bit uneven.
- There are a few spots missing on the left coverstripe

- The weathering on the shin is already very dark. Can you lighten it up a bit? I know - in the movie it looks pretty dark on some pictures.

Forearm:

- on the left forearm the coverstripe is a bit shorter

PENDING

BACKPACK

- Can you spill the stain in the bow while spraying? He looks a bit too sharp-edged in the bow.

- Can you make the gap between brexton and radio a little smaller? Possibly, the lower seedtray slide up a bit?

- the tape should have a bigger kink

The blaster is the hammer. So many details and, above all, new details that have not been seen and built before. Excellent work!

check and cleared!

Urs, your Trooper is absolutely great. You realize you studied it. I know, some things are not easy, because there are version 1 and version 2. What's missing are a few little things, then he's perfect. A dream!
Stay tuned and I hope to see you soon for the second part of the review.

Best Regards, bigwam

  • 1 month later...

Thank a lot Thomas for taking the time to write such a meticulous review. Well done and I am happy that you have pointed out some aspects that I wasn´t even aware of.

I had a very busy time at work but now I have summer holidays and have started reworking my gear.

First of all the helmet, I have turned the screws as required and I have also adjusted the characteristic crack on the left side of the helmet, but I have used some screenshots instead of the pictures of the original helmet without ears that have been taken much later and probably some changes might have been made concerning the shape of the crack as well.

This is my reference:

I have disassembled parts of my pack again to make the requested improvements:

k6yr2xn6.jpg

Brexton Box: make the overspray look more natural and a little less solid:

yhy7gcwm.jpg

New (in different lighting conditions:

6cdb5fat.jpg

h7zpkrnz.jpg

I have also moved the seedtrays closer together and added a more noticeable kink to the tape on the syphon-side.

8u3uvduc.jpg

2u3ze6hq.jpg

4t34q7im.jpg

I have also repositioned the little tool compartment on my shoulder pouch and the leash on the backside to make it sit differently when worn.

I have also shortened the coverstrip on my right forearm:

before:

t6vq7a5t.jpg

cut down the coverstrip:

dke7qtq5.jpg

and finally reworked the shape of the inside half, also adding some weathering to match the reference pics:

After looking at the previous forearm pictures, I have decided to add some more weathering at the top and this is what it looks like now:

y8ptlhjk.jpg

Here´s the reference:

98eqfdbp.jpg

I have also adressed the paint line on the abdomen which was just too unnaturally straight:

44ho7gzf.jpg

I have also noticed that some weathering spots on the belt weren´t as seen on screen, so adjusted them too:

rifyk8pv.jpg

As you can see, I am using another pouch, I am normally using my small Spanish pouch for carrying smokes, hence why it might look a little out of shape. The new one has the original shape and I have adjusted the position of the pouch as well by adding another little leash on the back (man, still hate sewing!)
