Legion elections are upon us.

That's right. Everyone's favorite time of year is back again for 2019. In February, every member of the 501st has the opportunity to exercise their Imperial democratic right to choose their leaders, at both the local and the global level. You will be able to vote for Legion Commanding Officer, Garrison Commanding Officer (or Outpost Leader), and - where you are registered and active in one or more Detachments - for the respective Detachment Leaders. Eligibility for Detachment electoral processes requires an approved affiliation with the Detachment as well as an active registered account on the Detachment forum that has logged in within the past year.  Where you are a member of a Squad, you would also be able to vote for the Squad Leader.

The schedule of the 2019 election is as follows:

Nominations Start:

Saturday Feb 2nd @ 12:01AM GMT

Q&A Starts:

Thursday Feb 7th @ 12:01AM GMT

Closing Statements Start:

Tuesday Feb 12th @ 12:01AM GMT

Voting Starts:

Wednesday Feb 13th @ 12:01AM GMT

Voting Ends:

Sunday Feb 17th @ 11:59PM GMT

The remainder of the month is reserved for transitioning between administrations. Elected candidates will take office at 12:01am GMT on March 1st.

All nominations and voting will occur in the 501st Legion Elections portal here: https://www.501st.com/elections/

If you have any problems with the system, write to elections@501st.com

Some things to note:

1.  Ever since 2016, we have been using a Single Transferable Vote format for all 501st elections to ensure that we have majority support for each winning officer.

Details about the new format can be found here: https://www.501st.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=211&t=101674

2. The membership databases will be locked down during the election period to prevent the adding of new members or change in activity status. These additions and status changes require intervention by Legion Command. However, GMLs can still add new costumes to the profiles of existing members.

3. Per the Operations Protocol:

“Notification of any elections to individual members is ultimately the job of Garrison and Outpost Commanding Officers for members in their region, and Detachment Leaders for members in their Detachments.”

Therefore, please check with your relevant leadership to ensure your unit is ready for elections. This includes ensuring members have access to the main Legion forum.

4. All nominations and voting will take place on the main Legion forum. Where any elected office is contested, the Q&A will take place on that unit’s forum. For the Legion Commanding Officer elections, this means the main Legion forum. However, should any Garrison, Outpost, Squad or Detachment have contested positions within them, their leadership (in the case of Squads, the Garrison leadership) should ensure a neutral space for forum Q&A, including limiting access to members with Active status, akin to what is being prepared on the main Legion forum. If you require help in this regard, please email elections@501st.com as soon as possible.

5. Please also read up on the guidance material available in the 2019 elections section.  These rules and guidelines apply to all Legion Elections, from LCO, to all individual units:

Cheers and Regards
