HappyTrooper's Mission Journal - 39 Troops

Recommended Posts

On July 6th, 2017, I had a solo troop with the great folks at FunBotLab in Annandale, VA.  This is a summer camp that helps kids learn about robotics, programming, and also stop motion videos.  I ended up trooping with them 2 more times at 2 different location.  The FunBotLab counselors were terrific.

On my 2nd visit, my daughter trooped with me too:

And my brother (TIE pilot) trooped with me on the 3rd visit:

While not an official 501st event, I did help my nephew celebrate his 2nd birthday...Star Wars style in July 2017.  He's also a big fan and already has his own armor.

On July 15th, 2017, Garrison Tyranus was invited to a Star Wars style birthday party.  The young man celebrating has been battling cancer.  The day started off a little rainy, but once all of his friends arrived (and the video game truck), the sun popped out and we were able to have a great outdoor party.  The young man, who turned 6, is now in remission!

On September 24th, 2017, Garrison Tyranus attended the Dulles Cars and Coffee event to help raise awareness and funding for children's cancer.  Ellie's hats, an organization helping children with cancer, was onsite helping with the event.  On a sidenote, there was a functioning landspeeder at the car show.

On October 14th, 2017, Garrison Tyranus helped the Cascades Public Library celebrate Star Wars reads day.  We met a lot of great Star Wars fans, including this lady sporting a Darth Vader t-shirt.  The Force was very strong with her.

Wow, that's great seeing how often you've been trooping, and for noteworthy causes too!

One of these days we're going to have to meet up. Maybe AwesomeCon 2018 :duim:

Yes, awesome troops indeed. Same here, we are pretty close and will have to troop together some day for sure. Sandie for life!

On February 11th, 2018, our Garrison was invited to attend a Blue & Gold Banquet for the Cub Scouts in Leesburg.  They had a Star Wars theme for the evening.  The banquet was kicked off with the Imperial March, and we led the Scouts to the stage for the flag ceremony.  Later, we got to join these future recruits for some chow in the mess hall.

We had so much fun at the last Blue & Gold Banquet, we joined another group of Cub Scouts in the area just a few weeks later.  On February 23rd, Garrison Tyranus did some heavy recruiting at this event.

Need to catch up on a few events.

On May 12th, 2018 I marched in a local parade by myself escorting a float.  Was a great workout walking 1.5 miles in armor with a pack!

On July 19th and August 9th, 2018, I donned my armor and took my R2 unit to a kids robotics camp.

On September 15th, 2018, I tried to help sell baked goods, with the proceeds benefiting the Childhood Cancer Foundation.  These young ladies were much better at selling than I was.  Was great to spend the day with other Star Wars fans :)

Got a few more...trying to get to that 50 mark!

On September 28th, 2018, R2 and I attended a fundraiser for a local science museum.  We rubbed elbows with some of the patrons, and got to meet Dr Who.

On October 6th, R2 and I attended the 14th annual Walk for Autism in Northern VA.  This was the 3rd year in a row that I attended as a Sandtrooper.  Always a terrific event.  We had support from some other costumers as well.
