Crookknight's Rogue One Jedha Patrol Sandtrooper Backpack Build Thread

38 posts in this topic

Design is complete for the Rogue One Santrooper Jedha Backpack.  Below are the 3D parts that will be printed.  The Thermal Detonators on the side and rack holding them will also be printed.  Not seen in this picture.  All of the other pieces will be hand built.  As you can see from the reference photos, this pack has the Sandtrooper Pack bend in it.  I am going to attempt to meld these 2 main pieces together in order to maintain accuracy.  The fabrication of all of the pieces has begun and progress will be posted here.

I should have all of the pieces printed by the middle of next week.  I will post them here before I start the finishing and assembly process.

Be interested to see how it is planned to be attached... No visible strapping?

Ideally it should "plug" into the back piece but with so many variations between vendors, I would assume some heavy duty magnets might work.

I have a feeling that magnets (even the most strong ones) will not hold this up.  Once I get the pieces together, I will have to see what works.  I should have everything printed in a couple of days.

I agree about holding up as weight will be important here....  Almost calls out for it to be permanently attached to the back plate...  Don't Clone Troopers have something similar to this so may be interesting to see how they do it...

With the Clone packs that I build they are usually permanently connected to the backplate. I know some people that buy an extra backplate so they do not have to always wear the pack.

2 troopers in my garrison have republican commando armors and the system they use is that they sort of attach the pack to 2 pins of some sort and latch the pack on them when it then sits/ rests nicely against the backplate.

Starting to finish the smaller pieces getting ready for assembly.

This is not all of the pieces.

As I sand finish and paint the pieces I will post them here.

I'm currently printing the larger base pieces that these will fit into.016be857d3864995c844e488ed6ddd2f.jpg7405b04927bc663339468f02f9224b76.jpg

Post screws + magnets seems like the best way. I wouldn't have thought of that

Dude holy crap this looks so awesome. Are you modeling in zbrush or blender or what? And I'm assuming your reference is a hot toys or sideshow collectibles? Super impressed with your work though. You could totally sell those files on thingiverse or shapeways for a pretty penny. I know I'd pay for sure!
