XoreX
Hi all, I am starting my TK conversion and I have a question about the TD knee plate. I am looking at the knee plate and it is close to an inch thick. I was wondering what would be the "normal" or acceptable thickness of the knee plate. thanks for your help
BadBatch
Based on a few others I've seen I trimmed mine down to about 3/8" 10mm. I also added a rear panel to it and filled the seam with ABS paste so it wouldn't appear hollow and fake if I was bending my knee forward for pix or anything like that.I'm sure other, more experienced TD will chime in soon. Airborne Trooper
I think mine is a little over 1/2". I didn't do a backing on mine.
DirtyBoy
I have a version I made. It's not vac formed and I found its much better for trooping and overall look.
HappyTrooperDotCom
I picked up a "no parking" plastic sign from Home Depot that I've been using for various plastic patching. I traced around the knee plate, cut with Lexan scissors, and then fastened it together with E6000. It gave me a little more surface area to attach to the top of the left shin. If you trim the rear cover too much, it will sink into the knee plate. Leave a little excess on the outside of the rear cover so that you can glue it. If there is too much excess, you can sand it off after the glue has cured.
