  1. So the tricky part of this build was getting the weathering right. I came up with an interesting process for mine that just happened to turn out looking right (at least to me). 1. MIST Plastidip onto the armor and immediately wipe with a dry paper towel. This makes the plastidip spread out and stick unevenly. It also provides a texture. 2. Create a mixture of grey acrylic, chalk paint sealer wax (dark), and Mars black acrylic paint to darken just a tad 3. Use a brush to spread on this mixture over sections of the plastidip treated armor and IMMEDIATELY wipe and blot with a dry paper towel. This will cause it to stick to some sections more and some less.
  2. Hey everyone! Since May I've been working on a Mimban trooper using Jim Tripon's kit. This week I submitted the photos for approval. The first big task was to complete the Rogue One TK as shiny and perfect as I could manage. My logic was that if I wanted the weathering to look correct, I would create the outfit the way it would be prior to weathering as perfectly as I could, and THEN apply the weathering. Example of the beautiful paint job prior to Mimban deployment: And here is a before and after of the helmet:
  3. Thanks man! Did you first paint the kit in gloss white to be shiny as if you were building a TK instead of a Mimban?
  4. Hey Thomas! I have a kit inbound from Jim! What did you use for your weathering? I'm a bit surprised we don't have more Mimbans, but it seems they are few and far between.
  5. There was a whole series of photos of different troopers with their pouch and backpack combinations (and weapon combos). It was useful in a pinch.
  6. Holy cow! Sorry about your helmet! I'm not sure about good prices on replacements... I do know that Troopermaster and RS Propmasters make really good helmets. Have you solved the feedback issues? That was the main problem I had with mine. Constant feedback.
  7. I was looking on the main front page where we used to have all of our reference photos, but I don't see them anymore. Were they moved?
  8. Ordered. Looking forward to getting this armor back in shape for troops next month. I also need to finish my other costumes, so while I'm waiting on that to come in I'll work on those. lol
  9. Thanks for the help guys! I've ordered some devcon. For the scrap ABS -- I don't have any. Do you think just buying a couple extension strips from trooper bay would work both for the splints and the paste? https://trooperbay.com/abs-plastic-extension-strips
  10. So I've had my first major wear damage to my armor. It's worse than a crack unfortunately. It occurred on the lip under my top breast plate (between top and bottom front torso pieces). Anyone have any suggestions on how to address this? Can it be addressed? Do I instead need a replacement piece?
  11. This has partially quenched my thirst for more MEPD. Still waiting on that badge though......
  12. Holy crap that looks really nice. ORDERING!
  13. Wait a sec....WHAT??? A new PO coin?? How did I miss this?
  14. So we've had a fairly long drought in merchandise runs here of late. I check every day but it's been dead silent over in the Merch sub forums.
  15. Ah ok! Nevermind then. You are well acquainted with wearing these things. I love the TD. I've got other costumes in the works but this will remain my favorite I'm sure!
  16. Great job! Did you get used to the feel of the armor yet?
  17. I had him. Just can't see him in those pictures.
  18. Wow it has been a while! The trooping opportunities really decline in the summer months it seems. Aug 25, 2018 -- Birmingham Alabama Fairy Tale Ball benefiting Childcare Services. Notes: No weapons troop. I don't like no weapons troops but it was for the kids so I sucked it up. My wife did a test run of her Iden Versio with command staff approval. Her actual armor is being painted, so she borrowed the chest piece from someone else. She looked so much like Iden it was scary. Little girls were coming up to her wanting to get a picture made with their female hero Iden. It was great! Group photo: Side view of me, wife in the foreground: And here I am grilling the Cantina bartender for leads on those droids:
  19. Trying out a iX throat mic. It seems to drastically reduce the feedback, but it makes my voice sound muddy. I believe that's tolerable though since it kinda gives me the sandtrooper sound even before the TKTalkie changes it. More tests to come.
  20. I love my trooper1. I also love my RS, which is trooper1....so I double love trooper1.
  21. After my field pack frame cracked last month I contacted RS since I’d only had the pack for about 60 days. They had me send it to Woodman, repaired it, and I just got it back in. Looks fantastic! I cant recommend RS Propmasters enough! They have been fantastic start to finish and afterwards!
  22. OMG that’s fantastic. Don’t make me want to try the impossible having just finished my other blaster. Lol
