  1. Today I worked on making the shot gun shells/ capacitators. They have the right size now for the original trays. If you lokk at the reference pics there's really only one that potentially has a bit of wire sticking out. For most of them the wire just seems to be there rudimentary which is what I aimed for with mine. Next step is to build the mount they're resting on. Reference pics: Master: Cast:
  2. I looked on ebay UK for 'seed trays' and set the filter to 'used'. Nothing fancy really ;-)
  3. I almost forgot how tedious it is to build a backpack but slowly seeing the end of the tunnel It took a little longer this time because I really aimed for a prop accurate build this time and had to put together a lot of puzzle pieces particularly with the attatchement methods. The definitely did not use the aluminum bars many of us have used in the past however on one of the pictures (that I unfortunately can't share due to an NDA) one can see something that appears to be a zip tie. So that's what I went for. The trays are connected to the frame just on the top and the bottom and with each other. Interstingly I had to cut even more off the frame than I initially though and attached the upper bar at the lowest (pre-drilled) point. With those dimensions the original trays I have fit like a glove into the frame and the look is exactly like the screen used packs.
  4. What a great newsletter! Can we publish it on our FB site as well?
  5. I'll scratch build something out of some ABS sheets. There are a few things I yet have to figure out such as the attatchment method of the seed trays as well.
  6. I meant to finish the ones I have yesterday but then I noticed that their size was based on the old seed trays. The original "shells" or capacitators were a much smaller than the ones we've used so I'm looking to scratch build them now. But you can also check out the ones from @gino's build, they look pretty good to me.
  7. @1970s: Very cool, you've found the same vintage seed trays I got on ebay! Btw, the shells didn't have wires hanging out. There's possibly one shell that had one small bit of wire sticking out but that's it. Also they're bit more rounded off on the edges.
  8. Hm, that's funny; I think numerous people have done that for years and nothing ever popped up. In any event, congrats on your catch!
  9. Well, I don't think we'll ever find out for sure therefore I'd say if it looks right go for it. What makes the RAL 7031 perfect IMO is that it's color does change with the lighting (as shown in my intital post) from grey to blueish. From the colors above IMO the "blue grey from Homehardware" and the " Rust-oleum battleship grey" are pretty close. The "Rustoleum Lake Blue" would be acceptable (again IMO) but a bit too much on the blue side for my liking.
  10. Interesting...where is @Rolf out pouch expert ;-) ? It looks a bit like a G43 ammunition pouch only that it just has one pocket.
  11. If we create such a thread we should only resort to original references not peoples' interpretations thereof. Particularly because most packs from past SWAT applications are now a bit outdated (mine included).
  12. I admire your dedication, bro. And the results definitively speak for themself! If you're doing this more often you might want to think about a pressure pot and a vacuum pump though - makes your casting life so much more easy (at least for the transparent and the nitty gritty pieces).
  13. Hey bro, welcome back! Would be great to see more of you around the forum
  14. Cool, looks like you're off to a good start! I'm still fascinanted by the range of possibilities those 3D printers offer. Definitively a very useful tool to have at disposal I'm surprised to see that the ear reacted with the cleaning spirit. I assume the material is HIPS?
  15. Nice project. Do you do a slush casting to get a hollow cast? For the light socket bulbs you probably have to pressure cast them to get them really transparent and without bubbles.
  16. Yeah well, I did use a screw but my attatchment method was a bit experimental and I can't really recommend it. I'll think about a better way when I attach the bottle to the syphon and then I'll show the construction method. Basically the problem is that I've shortened the size of the bottle and glueing on the plunger doesn't really work because it won't really stick just to the rim of the bottle at least not very durably.
  17. So, I've made a bit of progress, particular with the upper part. I haven't even started trimming and painting the frame yet but I wanted to see how everything fits together so I just loosely assembled the parts. Pretty happy with it so far Reference: Side: Reference:
  18. One other thing; I've been getting some requests about my seed trays. They were a one-off I got from ebay but....I've send 2 of them to Clive @Ninjabiscuit and he is going to offer vac formed casts of it Some of you might know his shop "Imperial Supply Depot" on Facebook where he's already offering a lot of TD and TK stuff. Now I'm aware that we as a 501st are vendor agnostic, so this is just an info that those will be available there. Cheers
  19. How cool is that?!! Well, thell him we all said hello I doubt that he'll recall anything specific about the backpack (would be cool if he did) but what might be interesting as well would be what he remembers about the move along scene. How many takes (I think there was a lunch break inbetween) and if he remembers switiching his gear a couple of times for that scene? Would be some interesting info to confirm some findings. Cheers
  20. The looksirdroids website has a breakdown of the 6 different packs used. For picture references I would reccommend starwarsscreencaps.com Cheers
  21. I'm not in the driver seat here, bro ;-) If @Fraulein starts the topic and fills it with content I'm happy to chime in. I've already done the SWAT overview for the most frequent troopers, the backpack break-down topic, the backpack color topic...would be nice to see some other people starting some research threads as well for a change.
  22. Yeah, I don't think the originals had holes in them either. But I think the form is accurate. The version with the holes could have been an update or another option.
  23. The diameter should be larger, maybe about 1cm. Also the bottom is too rounded off. It was probably more something like the propane bottle pointed out above.
