  1. Hi Nick, good luck with the assembly of the ears. I've spent like 7 hours on them last Weekend and am still not 100% satisfied. Word to the wise: Very slowly dremel them in form, it's easier to cut off more than to glue something back on
  2. Hi Felix, hope you get your gear soon - looks like the cantina captain is winning popularity @Scott: Not too shabby looking armour yourself ;-)
  3. Interlude. While I was waiting for the allmighty brown box I've spent a little time with this sweety here. Came to me all naked so I put a little weathering on her
  4. So, the ears are on. All too easy - not. I think I've spent like 7 hours just on the ears. My respect goes out to all those who have felt the pain in the past - we're bound by sweat, blood and tears now The tricky part was not just get em on there but exactly the way of the cantina captain. Well, maybe not exactly but hopefully somewhere in the 90% range. But you be the judge. Next stop paint town. That's where the fun begins
  5. Here we go again After waiting patiently for some time now the day has finally arrived My goal is to emulate the Cantina Captain as accurately as possible. Since I have to start somewhere, why not start with the helmet? So far, so good. But the next part is kinda tricky: The ears.
  6. I've never worked with the foamy PVC but it sounds like a good alternative. Does it rub or break off if you work with it or is it stable? Another option could be modelling clay (eg, FIMO) that becomes hard when heated up in an oven. Let me (us) know how it goes. Maybe we can figure out together what the best and efficient way is to make the rear sight
  7. Wow, they have that? I'm not sure you could find anybody like that even in the yellow pages around here. I don't know what you paid him but it was definitively worth it
  8. Outstanding job on the imprint, bro. How did you manage to get the punching letters so precise? Looks even more precise than the original ;-)
  9. Thanks, bro. That's a good idea; it's a little tricky as the numbers become smaller as they go down but I guess I could use 3mm numbers for the first 3 rows. I'll have to get the punch numbers first but I'll try it out
  10. Since I just learned that you have a max. of 500kb of picture per post I use photobucket to link the next ones: Glued 2 pieces of 3mm covers on top while filing the sides of the upper one: Made 2 smaller pieces and used a file to give them that "ripped" look: Gave it a coat: And finally black Hamerite paint and a little dry brush technique for the weathering: Lessons learned: - Be more through on the filing by using a ruler as well as on the sides to make them really even (or use some bondo) - Drawing the numbers with a fine brush didn't work too well. Maybe I'll try a marker or create a template next time - Weathering: Well, I guess you just live and learn... Hope that helps!
  11. If you have a Doopydoos or similar DLT-19 you frequently have the problem of a missing rear sight, at least when you strive for that extra accuracy. Since I couldn't find anybody who casts them I thought I give at a shot myself. This is the first thing I've ever build and it's the first thing I ever weathered so obviously I had a great learning curve doing it and I'm happy to share some of these lessons learned. So be aware that this is by no means a "best practice" tutorial or anything near but simply one not too complicated way of making a DLT-19 rear sight. First thing are the dimensions. There are good technical drawings out there (like this one: http://www.the-blueprints.com/de/blueprints/weapons/machine-guns/41740/view/mg34_technical_drawing/) but they frequently lack the measurements. Since wikipedia states, that a MG 34 is 1225mm long I estimated the approximate dimensions of the rear sight and came up with this template: Rear_Sight_measurements.pdf I cut the main body of the rear sight out and drew around the outline on a 3mm balsa wood. Then I cut out 6 pieces (รก 3mm width) with one of them being the middle part used to slide the sight up and down. After that I glued the 6 pieces together (I like using zap-a-gap because you don't have to spend hours or even minutes to wait until it's fixed) and filed in the markings. Learning: Do use a ruler Then I did the same thing with the adjustable sight (only that I didn't make it adjustable) and cut out 5 little pieces to go on each side.
  12. No, not even HWT or rather a very freestyle version of it. There are some good reference pics of the HWT back pack on the whitearmor forum under "High Detail HWT Screens".
  13. Good going!Mine is coming next week, can't wait to get started Re your question; Cantina Captain has 3 teeth cut out on each side. Check out SWAT applications from Mr.Hair and Lord Triste, there you're find something good reference pics.
  14. Well, this was a quick one - just a little under 2 years ;-) Felicidades, hermano!
  15. Awesome work, Bro! Count me in for one, too
  16. Excellent Job! At first I thought the weathering might be a tad bit too light but after looking at some more references (eg, below) I'd say say it's spot on!
  17. Hi All, would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Constantin, based in Frankfurt, Germany and old enough to have seen the first Star Wars movies when they originally came out I've been on and off the Star Wars during the last decades but recently - inspired by a fellow member of the GG - decided to get back in the game. My plan is to emulate the Cantina Captain and document the process in a WIP thread, probably in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to getting dirty Cheers, Constantin
  18. Thanks, bro - really helpful. And may I say your application process has been a real inspiration Cheers, Constantin P.S.: My new TM armor should arrive in a week or two - can't wait for the assembly...
  19. Guys, just a quick question as I'm aiming to emulate the Cantina Trooper, too; in order to become a Sandtrooper eight total teeth on the frown need to be cut out according to the CRL. So, my question is, do I get a waiver to be admitted as Sandtrooper with only 6 teeth cut out if I simultanesly apply for Police Officer (and later Cantina Captain)? Thanks, Constantin
