  1. Greetings all! It's been over a year since I received my NE armor kit from Troopergear, and today I finally started work. I am immediately encountering issues, and I was hoping someone out there could help me out. I've cut the running edge and some cover strips but as I go to assemble the forearms they don't seem to line up on both ends (see pictures). Did I approach the trimming the right way, or did I totally f' this up already? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers!
  2. I am starting to look into the steps needed to construct a SWAT appropriate E-11 and this thread was great! The best part, IMHO, was that someone somewhere finally found a use for those infernal plastic packages that require a surgons skill to open.
  3. Maybe a rookie question, but I am actually going to be in Europe later this summer! What are the dates/location for this event?
  4. Tanner, Check out this thread from FISD. It was extreamly helpful in pointing me in the right direction. Good luck. Cheers, Chris
  5. Joe, Another Chicago based TD here (Uptown, northside). I have recently completed the research process and have contacted many suppliers. If you have any questions just ask, the guys around here are super helpful and know their stuff. Chris
  6. Thank Luis, I finally made up my mind and ordered a NE lite kit and MTK helmet yesterday. They both ship pretty quickly so the boxes will me gathering dust for a couple months at my folks place while we redeploy. I am already, literally, having nightmares about the assembly though I am pretty excited to get started.
  7. Thanks for the heads up Walt. I saw it but it looks like it might be too tall and it is shipping from Germany so I am going to pass. Besides, if I am going to do this I am going to try to do it from the ground up for my own personal satisfaction
  8. Thanks Marcus, I got ahold of him through FISD today. Knowing he is part of the MEPD moved him up on my list
  9. Gents! I have communicated with a few of you over the past few days with questions about the various kits and general advice for getting started. First, I just want to say thanks for all the help so far. Second, I have been in touch with many of the providers and between you guys and input from the manufactures I have narrowed it down to a three kits and would like input on the three before I shell out the $$$ and hopefully have a box waiting for me when I get home. The three kits I have decided on are RS Props, AP, and MTK. I know that RS is arguably the most accurate on the market now and the price tag does not bother me. As for AP and MTK they are comparable in price but to my rookie eyes they don’t look much different from the RS kit. Another thing I am worried about is how they are going to fit a 6' (1.83m) 210 lb. (95 kilo) man. I would like to work up through the ranks 501st to MEPD Ofc to SWAT and if I can do it all with the same kit that would be preferred. Also, take note that this is my first build so I need to consider the difficulty of assembly. Any thoughts? Cheers Chris
  10. Gents, I, like Fergus and Thomas, am just getting started in this world and as of yet do not have any armor. I have read that post on FISD about where to go and who to avoid maybe a dozen times now and although I cannot over state how helpful it has been thus far each time I read it I have a new question. I was wondering if you guys could help me out a bit with the following inquiries. It is obvious that there are some differences in the TK and TD armor other than the weathering, such as the smooth shoulder straps and unique knee plate. When ordering from the suppliers that are recommended do I specify that I am doing a TD build and those details will be included in the kit or is it up to the trooper to modify his/her kit from a TK? The FSID post states that most armor is created with a 5'10" 165lb actor in mind. I am slightly larger, coming in at 6' and 210 lbs. How difficult is it to modify the armor for someone of a larger size, if it is needed at all? I have done some research on the lids themselves and the amount of variation and detail which was at first unnoticeable is now mind boggling. Is it possible to order just a lid from one kit and just the armor from another? Finally, when I get back home I will be living in a smaller apartment with a roommate. In order to avoid any violence we try to keep the place as clean as humanly possible for two guys in their 20's. How much room, special equipment, and mess are required for the necessary modifications to the kit armor? I think that is all I have for now, but I am sure that there will be plenty more by the end of the day. Cheers -Chris
  11. Greetings everyone! My name is Chris and this is my first post and step down the path of joining the 501st and MEPD in the Midwest Garrison. Right now I am just trying to absorb as much information as I can about trooping and it looks like I have my work cut out for me. I do not own any armor yet but from what I have learned all ready it appears to be a daunting, yet exciting task. Currently I am deployed with my Guard unit to a place called Camp Bastion in Helmand, Afghanistan so I am not going to be buying any kits for at least a few months, but this gives me some time to learn what I can (and try not to make a fool of myself in the process). I look forward to the adventure that will surely be encountered on my way to a TD assignment, and thanks for all of the help already! -Chris
