  1. Sorry I am starting another thread about radio parts but I will use this posting to report any new parts I find or come across . Feel free to chime in too if you have anything to share about radio parts that you think will enhance sonix radio kit builds. Luckily I had a quick 30 minutes on my way back from a meeting in Tokyo today and I dropped by Akihabara. This area of Tokyo was famous a long time ago for sprawling electronic part shops. Now its just a small concentrated area of shops near the train station that still sell various electronic parts. I picked up some detail parts for my radio but not sure if they are accurate enough. I was in a rush and grabbed what looked best but hoping to go back sometime to see what else I can find. Here is what I found: 3.5 jack plug sockets for the right side ear and mic ports - they had other kinds but the outer rings seemed too small so I thought these looked more balanced in size. 5 pin din socket. - the shop owner showed me the additional silver cased 5 pin socket but he could not say which one would be accurate for that era. And a I found an antenna. When I saw some photos of original Sonix radios I noticed the antenna was positioned at an angle, not straight. I thought perhaps there were two different types of antennas used on the radios. Then I found this - The antenna can fully extend and then the second to last section is just a pivot joint allowing the antenna to bend and rotate 360 degrees. The tip is slightly larger/longer than the Bigred radio antenna tip but its close enough I hope. I ordered a similar antenna from ebay last night but not sure if it is the same type. Update on that when I arrives early next month. What to use for the circular base around the 5 pin din socket and the antenna is still something I need to figure out. Maybe some rubber O rings . Ideas are welcome!
  2. Totally missed that posting. Thanks again! You are on fire! Your pouches came out amazing! Have to dye mine soon, but might try the flat black spray paint if using dye is expensive.
  3. Darn. Was hoping this was close but 10 mm is much bigger. Guess I will be bak on ebay! Thanks for your input!
  4. Does anyone have the correct dimensions for an MP40 magazine? I want to make some dummy magazines to stuff my shoulder pouch with.
  5. Yes, that would be great! Thanks. Let me know when you post if possible. Excited to see more details of their DLT-19. Appreciate your help.
  6. Found these presentation pointers at the local dollar store. They extend and collapse like any old radio antenna. The tips screw off making it easy to replace them with something more accurate. Base tube is roughly 2.5mm in diameter. Any thoughts if these are any good to use on the radios? Just thought to share this.
  7. LOL! Your build has caused all sorts of gears tuning in my head. I can't walk though a shopping center, supply shop, or dollar store without trying to find backpack parts. That did look good. Keep on hunting!
  8. From what I could gather, the smaller one is roughly 26 cm in length not counting the threaded extension. The larger 29 cm. The smaller one is the same size as Gordon's. syphon. Also the radio is said to be 240 mm. That is about the same as the smaller syphon' s length from the very top seam to the base above the threads.
  9. Just have photos. Wasn't sure which size is correct. The smaller one looks more in proportion to the radio in some screenshots. Any thoughts?
  10. Wow! Very nice find. Certinly post as many measurements as you can of that radio. Seeing the strap attached is cool to finally see. Thanks or sharing!
  11. Definitely a good shot of the tool box. Agree on the trapezoid shape. You can see how the sides taper toward the base and the top edge flange/ lip is clearly present. I have a project box that has slightly tapered sides but the flange is not there. I saw a similar type black plastic tray at a home center in the automotive section for oil leak jobs. Far from my house but I will drop by there next week. Hope it has the same shape and measurements. Let you know if it seems to fit the part.
  12. Nice cake tins! I was looking at those at a local shop but they weren't deep enough. If they don't work out, you can make brownies!
  13. What measurements should the tool box be roughly? What are the measurements of that tupperware box and the seed try you found? I might have found a similar item here in Japan but it unfortunately has some extra tabs sticking out on the lip for the lid to lock on. I am seeing it more as a tupperware/tray object when looking at all angles of the pack. The project box doesn't have the base raised line or the lip around the top.
  14. This looks good, size and all. The seed tray too is another great find. Wish the bottom was visible to see the base line.
  15. Sorry, the reason I ask is because I have come across information regarding similar syphons but the length is different by an inch. Doesn't sound like much but when side by side you tell the size difference.
  16. Where all the syphons on the backpacks the same size or where some longer in length than others?
  17. Sorry I am a newbie to the pack details. Forgive my inexperience, I should have seen the hole in the actual footage shots. Now i see it clear as day! Also I didn't notice the exhaust pipe differences. I thought maybe the pack suffered a bit in filming and it needed tape to hold it together and also some parts might also have been reattached, etc. Interesting to hear there were multiples of this pack version. Too many pack variations, too may details to pour over. I need to move along ...... Lee, your journey to make an accurate pack has already made some new exciting discoveries. Keep up the amazing work. I am sure there never will be end to making the ultimate pack but I guess that is the fun of it.
  18. Nice. I saw that hole in the photos but wasn't sure if we could replicate that in the packs for SWAT clearance. Sort of like the tool box & seed trays on the move along pack. In the desert photos of behind the scenes filming, the tool box and seed trays are not taped on what i am assuming is the same pack but that wasn't seen in the film . I prefer the pack with no tape but not sure if that is allowed for SWAT. I think for just stand alone real pack details, the hole is a must and since you know its there from the photos, you gotta have it! Great detective work matching the hole with the pack hole. I tried looking into vintage packs with that crazy bend but found none exact matches. The ESB rebel hoth packs have the bend but those packs might have been made for the movie & customized. The top ends are different too to the sandy pack. Some Jansport packs had slight bends and one Boy Scout 574 frontier pack had a similar bend but hard to tell from photos. Still a mystery to me.
  19. Yeah, it certainly looks similar. As you point out it has a very defined lip , great observation! You can see there is also a faint raised base line on the bottom of the box. I haven't found anything similar yet but this drip tray really looks close. There was a photo someone posted a while back noting the flange around the tool box. I think it was in the Move Along Project Thread by Cal? Post a link if I find it again.
  20. Did you paint the 5-pin port , antenna base and mic/ear jacks black or did you buy them that way? That radio is out of this world! Thanks for the wire twisting tip! Definitely going to use that technique!
  21. Yes, certainly take your time and start small. I trimmed the return edges back to a safe distance before making final trims on all the parts. This way you get the hang of using your tools and feel how the plastic reacts when you trim. You'll gain confidence as you go along. And post as many questions as you need along the way, never feel silly to ask. Everyone is here to help.
  22. Roger that! Sorry I got too excited to hear more news on this front. Thanks for your efforts!
  23. Thanks for posting this new info! Probably not possible but would Bigred ever be interested to have the radio digitally scanned? That would be something I would certainly donate money towards if that ever came to fruit. Bigred mentioned in 2010 in that post linked above that he was going to look into casting his radio but that never seems to have happened. Any news on that front?
  24. Would anyone be able to post pic of an RS DLT-19 for comparison to the DOOPYDOOS DLT-19 ? The details on the doopy one look crips and sharp. Hard to tell about the RS one with so few pics.. The DOOPYDOOS DLT has the holes drilled through on the receiver while the RS one still has the inner aluminum tube visible. The good thing is that RS offers theirs in a kit form so I guess drilling the holes out could be done. My main concern is the overall details. Any help with photo references you can post is greatly appreciated! Thanks ! Sorry I spelled Droopy not Doopy. No insult intended!
