Sounds like an interesting alternative material. Would you just apply water to where you want it to stick , sprinkle it on then seal it after it dries? Great palette of colors to mix from if this can be used. Thanks for posting this. Hopefully some veteran members can share their thoughts on this.

Thanks Dave and Jason for commenting. Agreed, it is way too long and will probably be difficult to fit into some cars. I mainly travel to troops by train so I needed something that can reduce holding more than one bag or case.plus my home has limited space so a free standing tall case works better for me. I will report back when I get into action and say if it was a wise purchase or not. Cheers!

I just bought a nice huge case to fit all my trooping gear. Thought it might be helpful for anyone looking to buy something that can fit a TD costume and pack in. Its quite roomy inside . I have not tried fitting a pack inside yet but palm to once my pack gets completed. You can check the case dimensions and see if your packs can fit inside. I have tried to contact the author of the book and got a response from the publisher. They said they can pass on any message but not 100% a reply would come. Definitely think this is a great way to get some more insight on the packs and hopefully get in touch with one of the actual prop makers from ANH who worked on them.

Not sure if I am missing it somewhere but were you able to take measurements of the main cooling tube diameter and the front tapered tube diameter? Would there ever be a chance to have that Lewis gun digitally scanned?

Definitely contact him. A phone call would be best as Sam would be able to give you a straight answer on the phone. Maybe some have surfaced at his warehouse since i posted this so its worth asking. He has a large collection of vintage stuff and I think he said the syphons were scattered in his stock so he is on the lookout for them. Hope you can get one.

Cool, thanks Lee for your advice. I just love illuminated stuff so was thinking to make it look high tech but you raise valid points for not doing so. I will try those lithium batteries. I heard some guy had lithium batteries almost burn someone's head because they exploded or something. Thought they might be more harm than help. Love to see the fan instal tutorial. Any help with electronics is greatly appreciated. And yes, Strider, you are correct in saying Lee deserves a medal for his innovations!

I wanted to add small illuminated switches to my fans running in my helmet off of 9v batteries. With the switch draw too much power to up illuminate it or make little difference. Anything I should be cautious of?

Rolf, welcome back and excited to see you assemble all those goodies! By the way, how did you get a Doopy DLT-19 kit? I asked them a while back about one and they had planned to do them but then given up the idea. Is it a DLT kit recently bought? Would you be able to post a picture of the kit?

My initial thought on this was how am I going to break into the Lucasfilm archives and steal a complete set of armor! But that might be the extreme side to ultimate accuracy beyond SWAT. Just joking of course! It would be cool to see your idea take form. Back on the hunt for those vintage backpack parts!

I asked Lewis from hyperfirm about getting one. he said first he is focusing on the complete new DLT-19s with them added on and then will offer just the charging handles to those who wish to add it to their previously purchased DLTs. Mail him again and ask. He might be starting to cast these soon. I am waiting for one when he offers them. Let me know what happens if you contact him soon.

I am fanscinated by the radio and it rarity and love it when someone tries to replicate it. I too had a tough time finding an exact 4 inch lid but found that people selling the vintage pitchers had lids measured at 4 1/4 inches. I have one and it looks fine. Plus it fits well with the rubber sanding wheel backing I bought at the home center. If you are still interested in a vintage pitcher lid, just find as many of the 1 quart pitchers being sold on ebay and ask each seller to measure the lid size. I found two seller a week back that had them and was willing to sell just the lid. Takes a bit of time but you can certainly get one that is 4 1/4 inches. Love the 3D model though. As Strider mentioned, a new radio faceplate with the measurements stated in the linked post would be a great project to work on. If I had the skills I would but I am useless with all this new 3D modeling. Looking forward to seeing more of your work!

I never asked the guy where he got them from but I assume he purchased large overstock from small time shops here and there. Plus I imaging some of the stuff comes from used bathroom parts. But the syphon I have is old but not used as Machine said. Looks too authentically aged to be a recast. The reason I decided on the small one was because I thought the long pipe part on the screen used syphon is not even length if you compare the top half and the bottom half. Plus I also considered the measurements of Big Reds sonix radio which measures 240mm . That is just about the same length as the smaller syphon from the bottom flange to the top seam line . Not sure the radio measurements are 100% proof but I tried to use those two references. Also Machine posted some great photos with relative proportions on the screen packs and I felt the smaller one looked about the same. Of course I do agree at times the longer one looks better and probably more accurate. I did plumbing for a short time and I never would have thought vintage toilet parts would be so exciting to find! I love this crazy hobby!

Thanks Strider. I do feel bad not being able to share this with the greater community sooner but I hold hope more stock of these syphons will be found at Broken Bog. I was able to get the shorter version not the longer one. Hard to tell which one is closest to the screen use ones but I think either is a great one to have for a field pack.

I was able to find a UK vintage bathroom supplier who had a limited stock of these vintage toilet syphons. It was a lot of work and communication to finally get one in hand. Please go to BrokenBog.com and contact Sam Powel regarding the syphons. He knows what we are looking for and may still have a few left. He has a huge property full of vintage bathroom supplies and it took him a few months to collect just several of them from his stock. Sam seems to be a busy guy so please be ready to wait for his replies. Often he is so busy he never gets back to you but if you send a reminder here and there he will respond. I eventually called him from Japan and he was really helpful on the phone. I would warn though not to overload him with tons of requests as he may all together not be as willing to help our cause which is why I originally refrained from posting this info.
