  1. Thank you, John, for the plug (with the picture). I just wanted to let anyone who is interested know that I have bumped my thread on the "For Sale or Trade" section for anyone who may want to order a large knob. Fantastic work, by the way. As always. Thanks again. Dana
  2. I have purchased several small generic Hong Kong radios built in the same style as the Sonix at about the same time period. I also got my hands on the National Panasonic radio from Japan that seems to have been the radio the Sonix was "ripping off" for it's look. I can report that none of them had dials with backlighting and the all have lenses over the dial, (obviously). That is not why I had to comment. I have to ask Pandatrooper . . . who has an actual Sonix? Did I miss it? Last I heard, the only person who has ever claimed that they found one was never heard from again and only submitted one picture, which was the same picture we all have of the Sonix. Just curious.
  3. Sorry to hear my best customer is down. Take care of yourself and get to feeling better. Afterall, the legion's packs aren't going to build themselves. Dana (Voodoo)
  4. The question is, do you have access to enough of them to offer them for sale to the rest of us poor slobs. If not, the next question is, can you and I swap one for a large dial next time you need one?
  5. Monday night I had the amazing opportunity to troop with about a dozen members of the 501st Alabama Garrison in Huntsville, Alabama. As many of you probably know, the NASA Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville has had the "Star Wars, Where Science Meets Imagination" exhibit this summer. Unlike all the trooping that has been done at the exhibit thus far, however, we got to go INTO the exhibit. The reason for the change of policy was that we were there as part of a Make-A-Wish foundation wish granting. The incredible little boy we got to share this experience with reminded us all of the reason we love this hobby so much. It was a FANTASTIC troop. As a bonus, we got to take pictures in front of a few of everyone's favorite movie props. Here are a few of me. Flash photography was restricted so the shots were not as great as they could have been. There are a couple that have great photoshop potential though.
  6. Charlie, I tried to PM you but I am getting that "message title" error again. Drop me a PM so I can respond to it. I'd like to talk to you seriously about the large dials. Thanks. Dana (Voodoo)
  7. That is BEAUTIFUL! I want one. (Obviously.) I actually laughed out loud at the shot of the Onyx. I have so been there. Last night, I was working tired and tipped a mold and ran that stuff down my WHITE kitchen cabinets. My wife was thrilled. What was I to do, the Tour was on, I couldn't work in my work room, no tv. Hmmm. It's a shame someone isn't already casting those large dials in black onyx. Oh wait. . . I do that. I'd be glad to send you a sample and work out a deal. Just sayin'
  8. As a rule, silicone only sticks to silicone. Two questions. 1) What material are the originals made of? 2) What type of silicone are you using to pour your molds?
  9. Before I was building my suit, my son and I were at a con. He picked up a bucket that was laying on a table and seemed VERY disappointed because the inside of the bucket jusn't didn't live up to the illusion. So, I pimped mine out. I previously posted pics on this thread. http://forum.mepd.net/index.php?showtopic=5775
  10. Rick, That looks fantastic. I have to share with you guys. Everytime someone refers to my "knob" I point it out to my Wife and tell her my "knob" is famous. She then proceeds to giggle for ten minutes. I'm starting to get a complex. Dana
  11. A couple of months back, Bama Trooper was back on the forum giving everyone a look at Alabama Garrison's custom TD squad, "Red Rain." Last Saturday, the squad trooped in force in Anniston, Alabama, for the annual Noble Street Festival. This event marked the second anniversary of the Double "R." Pictured in the highlights are 10 of the squad's 14 members. The Squad Leader, Shanon "Blaster Disaster" Oliver led the troop as Vader. Hiro, another of the squad's founding members, trooped with us but stepped away from the pictures because he was not sporting his red pauldron. Hoss, the last of the original trio, was camping with his son and couldn't be with us. Eleven sandy's walking the streets was indeed a sight to see. It was a great day. The squad on patrol. The squad encounters the rougue Jedi Bryan and his young Padawan. The Double "R" with its APC. "Vader's Plan B" poses with the Dark Lord himself after subduing another world for the Empire. Never leave anything unattended when there are Jawa afoot. The Double "R" enjoy some much needed R & R.
  12. I agree, it looks like metal. That is just so inconsistent with the cheap standard to which all of these Hong Kong generic radios were built that it is confusing. I can't see any other areas that look like they may be metal. Interesting detail though. To echo everyone else's sentiment. . . I am jealous. (What a funny hobby we have.)
  13. So . . . is it just me, or does it appear that there are metal inserts, or panels, on either side of the bottom half of the radio. What do you guys think? Is it possible that those are decals with a foil backing? It looks like the Sonix logo is worn off and the underside seems awfully bright as well.
  14. I actually bought some to mold and cast the large dial, which I have from the National Panasonic radio I picked up in an auction from Japan. This newest radio may make that effort redundant, execept maybe for local consumption. Hope it helps. As a "gold star" for the suggestion, could I make the list for the first run? Thought it couldn't hurt to ask
