  1. It does depend on the event. I've done elementary school events and hospital troops where no "firearm" weapons were allowed (lightsabers were permitted), and I've also done events where space was limited so I trooped sans BFG and backpack (crowded cons/hospitals)........I guess it all comes down to feeling out the event and/or local rules/laws. Common sense and up front honesty can go a long way.
  2. I agree that I would like to see a set in person. One of Rubies biggest problems (in my opinion) is their use of thin/cheap materials. They could produce a great accurate piece of armor (highly unlikely), but it would all be for moot if you have to super reinforce the thing with fiberglass just to make it wearable. And I don't foresee fanmade armor going away anytime soon. LFL has been very understanding with all of us as long as we aren't profiteering on them and just using them to further our hobby...........but that's just my two cents for what it's worth...........
  3. I, for one, can't wait to see what they come out with. While I do love my armor, I would eventually like a smaller, more accurate bucket. And hopefully they are reasonable enough that I can afford to sell my current FX one and not have to come up with too much more cash............bummer is going to be trying to get the weathering to match...............
  4. Well I, for one, would definitely be interested in one of these as long as it's in my price range at the time. My homemade wood and pvc one is seriously lacking due to my limited artistic ability (I'm a construction worker, not Picasso), plus it weighs a ton. And I would probably just want the kit as that should be cheaper and still allow me some pride in assembly, weathering, etc. So keep us updated.........btw, looks freakin sweet!!!!!!
  5. You lucky S.O.B.!!! How much did those end up settin ya back?
  6. Yeah man, let us know, we are all wililng to help......I think I'll get some new pics this week to "get up to snuff" as well
  7. I need access as well please!
  8. Let's also remember that if we want to be the "most canon" TDs we need to have poorly molded, unsymetrical armor falling apart and mismatched like they did in ANH. Pretty much all of us have armor that is 500% better than that used in 1977. Striving to be the best is great.........within our detachment. I love the 501st as well, and have had nothing but great times at all the events I have participated in. I would not want to tarnish that by trying to limit any further the participation of those members that are doing great things within the organization. Now, I do agree with a set of minimum standards...anyone who knows me knows about the discussions we have had about some costumes. But we need to remember, The MEPD is a detachment......this is the "elite" of the sandtroopers. If we make the rest of the legion's standards equal with ours, then we cease to be "above and beyond"......Enjoy being elite, you have all earned it!
  9. We could also go an extra step to being movie accurate and have unsymetrical, poorly cast armor falling apart, lol.......as far as I know, the 501st keeps it fairly loose to encourage more people to become a part of the legion, while still maintaining "professional quality" standards. Heck, if you think about it, we all prety much have 500% better quality costumes than the originals used in ANH.
  10. Actually, there has been allot of discussion on the Florida boards over the last couple months about Snowtroopers. Most of the discussions are about how hard it is to find the "hard" armor parts. Skaught (The Florida Garrison CO) has a Snowtrooper, and is always willing to help anyone out with whatever they need. He even opens up his house for armor parties occasionally. I know that when I first wanted to get in the 501st I had a couple people help me out immensely. And I do agree with the showing up and being a handler bit. We have a few people in the Tampa Bay area who are working on costumes right now that have showed up to almost every event, armor party, and get together over the last couple months, even without a costume. It goes a long way to show a high level of commitment and strong desire to be involved.
  11. Same here. It actually fits nicely in the trunk of my car next to my son's "Jawa" bin, and either he or I wear it while carrying the rest of our stuff.
  12. I'm just curious....I've been mistaken for allot of different characters in my TK and now TD armor.....but last night I think i was called a Ghostbuster more times than anything else! I couldn't wear my bucket where I was so I had to carry it and I had my pack on, so I guess that helped with the illusion......but have you ever seen a Ghostbuster in armor??????
  13. Tonite my son and I went to the mall as a Sandy and Jawa. Per mall rules, no weapons, noone under 12 can wear a mask. Security made my son (who is exactly 12) take off his hood because of his size, but then recanted after I explained he was 12 and I checked on the rules before coming. Heck, the mall office even sent a photographer out to have me put on my bucket and take a picture for the mall with my son after that! Anyways, we kept getting stopped for pictures and even got a card from a lady who does pediatric cancer stuff and wants to do a Star Wars themed event next September! Didn't get any pictures of us at the mall tonite, but here is one from Saturday at "Zoo Boo" at Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa. Guess which one is me and which one is my son
