  1. Mmmm.....pvc - is there anything it can't do? Nice work!
  2. Just as a thought since I'm at the same stage as you - might want to try dusting some pastel chalk (earthtones of course). Not sure how it would be fixed however without it rubbing off. I do know from building scale models that a lacquer-based dull clearcote usually works. But leather and vinyl are different material so if someone knows a better fixative, feel free to enlighten.
  3. ] Yes, plus there's nothing like self-accomplishment and avoiding the cookie cutter.

    straps

Thanks TD 3150. Yeah, I know about the 1 inch strap thing. Picked up a used backpack frame the other day with original straps intact with metal fasteners. Replacing those with plastic and maybe attaching the ammo pouch to one of its padded shoulder straps.

    straps

What would be the idea strap material? I've seen some use nylon strapping with quick release fasteners like those used for camp gear. There's also the kind used in tool belts which are a little wider and of thicker material so seem a bit sturdier than the other.
  6. Ahh, there is no substitute - the gold standard for all buckets!
  7. Will e-mail you on this with directions...
  8. Let me then be the first yank (via Hawaii originally) to welcome you aboard! Great bunch of guys here and a good spot to pick the brains of fellow sandy bucketheads!
  9. I meant to say upholstery thread to do the sawing. My bad!
  10. daetrin, Just left a message about this on the GT boards, so whichever you see first, the tip if you're willing to attempt it, is to try sawing back and forth along the seam. Hopefully the cement hasn't cured to the point where the thread can't cut into it. Hope this helps and there's always the armor party next week to work things out
  11. Just finished cutting my templates and getting ready to remove my old riveted-on knee plate. Since it was riveted at the sides, that will leave the holes visible when I attach the new one. Is it best to put some rivets back in just to cover them up or leave as is?
  12. Interesting spoof assuming there's a recognition of civil rights in the Empire! Most of what I've read, the troopers dispense with any legal niceties and just haul you off or worse. In 'Ruins of Dantooine' they arrested an Ithorian on trumped up charges and executed him on the spot. An imp's work is never done!
  13. Thanks to my fellow GT trooper Caomhanach. Hope to see an actual demo at our next armor party!
  14. Instead of ice, what about a cold wet cloth?
  15. Ok, i'll give it a try. Thanks for the tip!
  16. Anyone know a good way of removing rivets like in a thermal detonator riveted to my belt? If there's a way of doing it without major ABS damage, pls let me know. Apologies for my ignorance and thanks!

    new recruit

Thanks for the warm welcome guys and aloha! My family's originally from Aiea and Pearl City on Oahu (the crowded island) so good to know that there's other TD kamainas out there! Mahalo
  18. Greetings all, The name's Brian and right now I'm your standard clean TK. Not that there's anything wrong with that but have set myself the goal for making the full TD conversion soon; sandies just seem to have more 'elan' about them imo. Anyway glad to join the board and extend a big hello to everyone. TK2802
