  1. RT's are great lids for the money and 721 is very reliable. Most of the guys in the UK garrison use RT's. You'll be very happy with either though. HTH
  2. Congratulations dude - Alaska is an amazing place, I spent 2 weeks in Fairbanks and Chena Hot springs back in Jan 2000, incredibly cold but absolutely beautiful landscape. Congrats again, G
  3. I might well go this way due to one of my shoulder straps breaking - if I do I'll post up pics. G
  4. Welcome to another fellow UKG'er - there's loads to great info here.....going dirty is definitely the way to go!
  5. Thanks for the kind words - I'll be dirtying up soon and probably adding a couple more greeblies to it. It's first outing is this Saturday - I'll be there with my good dirty buddy J....should be a blast! Between we're the only troopers I know that manage to get grown men to do 10 push ups in the middle of a shopping centre on a Saturday and permanently confiscate crisps and drinks (it wasn't intentional...she just walked off!) G
  6. I agree with Daetrin in that it's kind of a rite of passage to build one yourself. I was hoping to buy one but at the same time had some specific ideas on how I wanted it to look (and was too bloody lazy to build one). But in the end I built one, again cos I needed it sooner rather than later and I really got into it - drove my girlfriend up the wall but I enjoyed myself I say have a go at building one - once you get started it's good fun and it all becomes much more personal too.
  7. Hi all, Well I finally finished my backpack - here it is: I just need to weather it some more, there's some silver dry brushing and a light dust of beige spray - I'll add some more weathering later this week. What dya think?? G
  8. Hi all - I've started my weathering, it's something I've been wanting to do for ages....backpack is a wip! Here's a couple of pieces...what do you think - too dirty, not dirty enough or about right?? I've got to add some more crud marks (the obvious dirty bits) to the chest piece but wanted until it was all together and then do that in one go so I can guage the overall dirtiness! Let me know what you think Thanks, G
  9. If anyone needs any of the Humbrol paints, let me know - they are pretty easy to get round here and nice and light so shipping to the US would be minimal. I used Humbrol #5 (seems to be known as AD Grey over here) and it looks great. Quick tip for easy colour accurate decals - just paint the decals whilst they are on the sheet. The paint doesn't adhere to the shiny backing sheet, they just need a little tidying up with a blade and hey presto, very tidy colour accurate decals. All that said, I still think frowns should be hand painted. G
  10. Hi all - thought I'd say that I've been using one of these for 2 years now (I had one of the first batch) and it's great. The only downside is they go through batteries like nothing on earth and I feel naked if I can't talk to the girlies G PS - just don't put the transistor radio effect up too much as you end up sounding like metal mickey.
  11. I'm interested in one of these - do you have an idea on cost yet? Cheers dudes, G
