  1. I used this kind of bottles for camping for many years when I was in boy scouts. If I do remember corectly, at least back then, the "flat part" was actually a base to keep the bottle standing upright. It was black plastic and could be removed even if not inteded for that. The thing is if you removed it, the bottle would be round just as at the top. Design wise, I guess a pill shape was needed to keep the pressure within safety levels. But then again, AFAIK, in the 70s such bottles were not available for camping, we used other kind of containers, and mostly, just fuel tanks with a pump to pressurize the tank manually. I could be mistaken, but I did not come across that kind of pill tanks in camping equipment until the late 80s or even early 90s. Saludos.
  2. Hey Dave! How are you brother... Glad to see you back in here!! Its been a while and I know you have faced some tuff times lately... but as you said, with or without armor you are and will always be a MEPD Sandtrooper!!! This forum and its members is always better with you in it! Saludos
  3. Could it be that the pack with the weird mushroom cap is just a plunger with the extra bit on top not cut off?? Cant find a good picture of that pack ATM to compare it to the plunger... What do you think? Saludos
  4. This is Amazing! THX a lot bro for sharing the link. It is a bit expensive specially the shipping. I need to save a lot to buy all the parts I need for my new build. Soon I hope. Good thing is this are available and no need to go to junk yards to dig up old fossils! Saludos
  5. Yes... We just do what needs to be done!! LOL!! Saludos my friend!
  6. LOL!! I found an old WC Tank on a sidewalk in London, and had to check if there was a Shires syphon on it... Found out that no, no shires, but yes, a syphon... so I just had to strip the tank down there and then, bare hands, and take the syphon all the way back to my hotel and then home... So yeah, you know that if we need to go through hundreds of vintage used toilet plungers, we wil! Thats what we do, don't we? Saludos
  7. Really cool findings!! Any reatilers, makers or brands for the seedtrays and plunger? I know more than a few of us would be interested in getting some. Saludos.
  8. Looking good bro! Well done! Saludos
  9. This is amazing. Really didnt expected less from the Sandtrooper master. Not surprised this looks so go, and totally surprised with its awesomeness. If you get what I mean. Congrats bro. Saludos.
  10. Yeah! Looks nice already. Just need to position correctly some parts. And as for the straps, I too used an old backpack's straps. The one thing that I really like and helps me keep the load off my shoulders is the across chest strap. That I wear under the chestplate. Lots of help to carry the heavy pack! Saludos.
  11. Looking good. I think you are doing great for a start. There is some trimming you will need to do down the road to get a better look, specially talking about teeth and ears, but also some other parts will need some work to make them fit better. But, you will get there no doubt. As others stated, the butt and strip is the way to go, and you might be surprised what a huge difference it makes on the looks once its done. Let us know if you need some more assistance, ideas, techniques or anything else! We will be more than happy to help you! Saludos.
  12. Hey Paul, Looking good bro. I agree with Kirk! You want to have some white showing bellow all that dirt. What really gives the weathering the desired realistic look is to have several layers of dirt forming in different shapes, textures and concetrations... But something that is easily forgotten is that the white layer is also t be shown in some spots to have the armor appear wheathered and not painted. Thighs look good. I would just soften a bit the brown color in the gaps and angles... It looks too brown in comparison to the tan color of the rest of the armor. Just rub of some paint, and paint it again, and rub off, again and again and again... I found that in weathering painting is almost second in importance to rubbing off paint. Saludos.
  13. Great newsletter! Thx everyone involved! And it is refreshing reading the points of view of our Sandy sisters! THX for sharing!! Saludos
  14. Interesting! Will have to look closer! Saludos.
  15. Cool! Share your progress bro! And I mean pictures!!! Saludos.
  16. Looking real good now bro! You should be cleared no problem. One question here Steve, do you like it better now yourself? We sometimes ask for upgrades and modifications, but not very often we ask if you like your armor better after our input. So, do you? Saludos.
  17. I wish I had a sterling, and the money to pay for it, and that they were not illegal in Mexico, and that they wouldn't attract unwanted attention from law, military and organized crime. Its such a long way for me. (that's my uncle talking) LOL! Saludos
  18. Hey Rob! Welcome back. Good to see you back here. Make yourself at home and go grab a beer, you already know where they are... Saludos.
  19. Awesome! Looks like lots of fun, even for a Sandtrooper! And, little girls in Sandtrooper armor just rule the galaxy! My daughter, 6yo, has an EVA foam TD armor too. Saludos.
  20. THx bro! I was way more time consuming and difficult than expected. And the result is acceptable, but far from perfect. Anyway, I am very happy with how it came out, after using almost 200 mts of nylon thread. LOL!! I need to write a bit about the process and learnings, but wanted to post pictures asap. Maybe write a bit later. Im feeling Lazy at the moment. Saludos.
  21. There you go. I am listening bro! Let's do what we should, according to our own set rules and character... (MEPD and 501st). Saludos.
  22. Interesting to read this ideas and points of views. For too long we have stayed very jealous of what is and what is not a Sandtrooper. And what can be included in our detachment. Even making it quiet obvious that for ages we did not wanted the SE sandtrooper here. Even if attitude is slightly different now, SE TDs are not yet here. But that is mainly cause no body wants to build one so far. Talking about R1 Sandtroopers is completely different I guess... People is interested in developing new R1 armor, and of course, turning it into TDs. At least it seems so, right? New kinds of pauldrons, new armor configuration and new packs and weapons... lots of ground to cover and lots of space to play. But, should we accept them as part of the Sandtrooper detachment??? And what does that implies?? Here is an idea, food for thought... What if the 501st Legion's Sandtrooper Detachment is not the MEPD, but something bigger? What if the Sandtrooper Detachment reconfigures itself as the Imperial Police Deparment. Or some similar wording meaning Law Enforcement across the Galaxy. Cause, the FISD is based on the idea of military corps, and the MEPD is a local law enforcement detachment... So why not turn it into a Galactic Law Enforcement figure, where we can include the MEPD, the Jedha PD, and what not? HWT should stay over the FISD cause they are soldiers, but sandtroopers in Jedha are Police Officers on local duty. That backstory could be added to the MEPD backstory in a similar way. I mean, its all make believe, right? And then, gear would not make a Sandtrooper, but rol and most important, active duty. Thats actually why we have deployed troopers. It a trooper that has already seen action, a Police Officer that has gone to the field and therefore is all dirty, tuff and experienced. HWT were once TDs, but we make it clear why it was not the same, even if the only difference were some armor details and weathering. But now, years after that, I have come to the conclusion that it is not just that, but an attitude and a personality we over the MEPD have, that no other trooper in other detachments have. See what I am doing here, I am not talking costumes, but people... and characters. Thoughts? Saludos. PS. Anyway, how are we going to include the Jedha Sandtrooper designation on the 501st CRLS if we need at least two official references, and so far, they only appear on a book, but not in a movie.
