  1. As of 2/1 Mike Harrison TD1536 will be taking office as DL, congrats Mike!
  2. I use a guitar case for my DLT19, hence the nickname "Mariachi".
  3. That looks nice! I hope my next bucket turns out as nice!
  4. Search the board for "sniper knee" you'll find some good resources. A few people vac-form them, and you can also build one from some readily available templates that will come up in the search.
  5. Copy that, just disregard your plastic shoulder straps. Some sort of strapping underneath the armor (should be white or canvas color) is probably the most accurate approach. If you get that kit (looks like AP?) you will only need a knee replacement, the ab is good. You just don't use the ridged overlay plate that covers the rectangle on the "belly".
  6. The Target cat litter trays are probably the best off the shelf answer to pack boxes.
  7. I appreciate the kind words guys, I am genuinely touched. [/misty]
  8. Even though he is the only candidate, and hence will be taking office on 2/1, we will still have a Q&A session available. I will act as moderator, PM me your question, or email at sethb6025 (at) yahoo.com. I will post the question here & Mike will have a chance to respond in the thread. This will be restricted to 501st members, so please submit your TKID along with your question. Cheers! (thread is locked to prevent posts by someone other than the moderator, it is active so fire away!)
  9. You may have already been notified via email, but I have declined my nomination for DL of the MEPD. When I first took the post two years ago, I had made a promise to myself to not wear out my welcome, or become complacent. I had given myself a two year guideline. After a lot of indecision I have chosen to stick with it. There is a lot of talent pooled within the Legion, and a board can always benefit from a change in perspective. At first I accepted the nomination assuming that no one else wanted it. While I didn't want to become "tired" of the role, I also wanted to make sure the MEPD was in good hands. The well-being of the group has been a priority for me from very early on. Long before I wore the DL hat, I used to post up random things during slow times to get people posting (in the first days of the PHP board that started after the Yahoogroup there were times that a few days went by with zero posts!). After seeing that Mike was serious about running, I decided that there is no reason I should continue on. Its pointless to run against someone that you planned on voting for. I will be frank and say that I was hoping that he would become DL eventually. I didn't just choose him for my XO because he is a good friend, it was also because I see him as someone who is a respected person, and a competent leader. I would like to thank everyone here for making this board what it is. It is my "home" and so it will remain. I feel privileged to have been DL for the past two years, and am happy to see the right person stepping into the shoes. Congratulations Mike, may the binary suns shine upon you!
  10. There isn't really a tutorial out there that lays everything out in detail. As you have found there is a wealth of info on the site though. A lot of scratch-building a pack will be "Mark 1 Eyeball". The other problem being there aren't really definitive sizes as the real parts were trashed after filming. By my estimation the main boxes should be about 11" wide though, for what its worth.
  11. Wowzers. That makes me want to do a MSE again. I lost steam on it last time. :/
  12. Yep, just think of it like making a reservation at a nice restaurant. Long wait, but it will be worth it.
  13. Nice, the elastic is a little squarish at the bottom, but not too far off. You may also try looking for Johdpers.
  14. It is a little blotchy. I would lessen it on the high spots. Weathering on ABS can be touchy, I would try and soften the appearance a little, by dabbing it off a bit. I would definitely add a dust layer, either with ground up charcoals (one dark gray, one light tan) or Fullers Earth. This will do wonders to give a more even weathering job, and tone down the difference between the painted parts and the clean parts. I would also scrub your pauldron a good bit, try and get away from the brush stroke appearance. On the soft parts less is more. You are really close though, so don't get discouraged.
  15. It looks pretty nice, in the picture it looks a little spotty but subtle things tend to get lost in photos. The only thing I might do is add a layer of dust with Fullers or charcoals.
  16. I'm taking a break from cutting out the little tabs for the shoulder strap. Yeesh. Everyone who signed up on the interest thread will be getting an email from me in a couple of days, with more info.
  17. Thank you sir! I have been terrified to try anything for fear of damaging the rubber.
  18. I think SciFire usually only ships within the US, although you could have someone in the US receive it & reship it to you.
  19. I will be releasing the pauldrons before too long. There have been a lot of little things holding it up, but mostly a lack of time on my part. I managed to get a couple "final prototypes" done for Dragoncon (being worn here by Mike & I) which really just lacked the proper rivets, but have not been able to do much since. A few details still kept me from making scores of them. Yesterday I spent some time in the shop working on some, and I will be doing so today as well. Provided everything turns out the way I want it to they will start for real in a couple of weeks. I have a long list of people interested that I will be emailing & working through before I start taking any additional orders. Beyond that I will probably just do them as needed.
